The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HAFTA) announced its 2009 nominees for the Golden Globes this morning. The Golden Globes are considered a harbinger of the Oscar season, even though they generally throw a few wacky choices into their slate.
For those keeping track, Up in the Air nabbed six nominations, followed by Avatar with four. Sandra Bullock continues to enjoy a stellar year, as she was nominated for The Blind Side as well as The Proposal. Other double nominees include Meryl Streep (Julie and Julia, It’s Complicated), and Matt Damon (Invictus, The Informant!). Directors Quentin Tarantino and Jason Reitman each got a nod for directing and screenplay as well.
The Golden Globes ceremony will take place on January 17th, 2010, and will air on NBC.
Here is a list of the nominees in major film categories:
Best Picture, Drama
Avatar
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Precious
Up in the Air
Best Picture, Musical/Comedy
500 Days of Summer
The Hangover
It’s Complicated
Julie and Julia

Since playing the leading role in Iron Man Robert Downey, Jr. has rocketed back onto the film scene and everyone it seems wants to work with him. The latest is director Todd Phillips in his new film Due Date. If you don’t recognize Phillips’ name you’ve certainly heard of his last project, The Hangover, which grossed over $400 million worldwide. With that film such a critical success, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Due Date become another hit.
Downey leads an all star cast including Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover, Bored to Death), Michelle Monaghan (Made of Honor) and Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, who starred opposite Downey in The Soloist. Due Date also brings back much of the talent behind The Hangover and sounds like it will draw on the same elements that made that film so hilarious:
“Downey plays Peter Highman, an expectant first-time father whose wife’s due date is a mere five days away. As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at her side for the birth, his best intentions go completely awry when a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) forces Peter to hitch a ride with Ethan—on what turns out to be a cross-country road trip that will ultimately destroy several cars, numerous friendships and Peter’s last nerve.”
Downey and Galifianakis’ journey will be as much a road trip on film as it is in real life. Production is set to take place across the USA in Georgia, New Mexico, Arizona and Los Angeles. Due Date is scheduled for a Fall 2010 release.

Some may think shows like The Tonight Show or The Daily Show are the go-to programs when it comes to compelling interviews with celebrities or people of interest. Those people would be dead wrong. If you want to know what’s really going on in the world of celebrity, look no further than Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis.
Galifianakis is not only a rising star in the comedy world, thanks to this summer’s The Hangover, but he also takes time to host his faux interview web series in which he invites stars like Jon Hamm, Natalie Portman, and even co-star of The Hangover Bradley Cooper. If you’re asking, then yes: each episode takes place between two ferns.
Zach’s latest interview is with international starlet Charlize Theron. They chat about things ranging from her names, her sick dog, and jumping into the naked pool. Check out the Funny or Die exclusive after the jump.

Community, a new Fall sitcom offering from NBC, seems to be shaping up as a very interesting show and one defiantly worth checking out. We’ve brought you quite a bit of news and promos for it in the past, but that won’t stop us from bringing you even more promo videos right now highlighting all that’s good about the new show. Courtesy of the fine folks at NBC, these new clips, some of which are scenes from the show and some interviews, give even more insight into the characters and situations encountered by the eclectic ensemble that have gathered to bring this show to life.
To refresh your memory, Community, which comes from Emmy Award-winning directors Joe and Anthony Russo (Arrested Development), is a smart comedy about higher education and lower expectations. It focuses on a band of misfits, at the center of which is a fast-talkin’ lawyer whose degree has been revoked (Joel McHale of The Soup). They form a study group and, in Breakfast Club fashion, end up learning a lot more about themselves than they do about their course work. Besides McHale, the show also features Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong and Chevy Chase. Yes, that’s the Chevy Chase.
In addition to all these promos and the other info we’ve brought you before, tonight we’re going to be at a special preview of the pilot episode of the show and will also get to ask the cast some questions. So, look for a review of the pilot and the Q/A with the cast right here at The Flickcast. Until then, watch these new videos after the jump and be sure to tune in when Community hits the airwaves on Thursday, September 17th at 9:30/8:30C.

After The Hangover grossed over $200 million in the domestic box office, it looks like Warner Bros. is ready to give director Todd Philips and his cast another chance to make them some money. With Zach Galifianakis moving on to some other projects like HBO’s Bored to Death and a few other things, Variety reports that we may be seeing yet another “morning after” situation in as little as two years:
Galifianakis will play one of the two leads in “Due Date”, an Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland script that was revised by Adam Sztykiel. In the comedy about fatherhood, an expectant dad and his unlikely travel companion (Galifianakis) race cross-country in hopes of making it home for the birth of his first child.
Both “Due Date” and “The Hangover 2″ will follow the same production track as “The Hangover.” The plan is for the “Due Date” shoot to begin Oct. 6, and the film will be released next year in the first weekend of June, just like “The Hangover.” The sequel will begin production in October 2010 and will be released Memorial Day weekend 2011.
Warner Bros. hired Phillips and Scot Armstrong to begin writing “The Hangover 2″ right after early test scores left the studio optimistic that it had a winner (Daily Variety, April 5).
Since it’s June 5th release, The Hangover has grossed just over $222 million, making it Warner’s highest grossing R-rated comedy, putting it past Wedding Crashers and just underneath Beverly Hills Cop for the supreme title, but analysts expect the film to reach that status by summer’s end.

Last time on The Flickcast, your favorite trio discussed all kinds of interesting topics including the Twilight phenomenon, the MTV Movie Awards, the Megan Fox as Wonder Woman “controversy”, who we think should star in a Wonder Woman movie and that Matt, for some reason, doesn’t seem to like Jessica Biel or Hallle Berry.
This week the team discusses and debates a slew of new topics including Monday’s Apple announcements from the World Wide Developer Conference including cool, new iPhones and an update to OS X, what was cool and worth a look from the recent E3 gaming convention, the success and greatness that is The Hangover, Kirsten Dunst joining Spider-Man 4, the merits of movies in 3D and a whole lot more.
Chris, Matt and Christina also made some picks this week including one of Christina’s favorite reality shows Bridezillas, Matt’s pick of one of his favorite reality shows, Star-Ving featuring David Faustino of Married with Children, and Chris’ pick of Rob Zombie’s reboot of Halloween
— which, believe it or not, he really liked.
Its a big episode, but one you won’t want to miss.

(Note: This review may contain some spoilers. Be warned.)
The bottom line for The Hangover is that it is continually funny. Where with most comedies these days (Like Wedding Crashers) you remember “funny moments” and not that the entire movie was funny. This entire movie was funny. From the moment “Bearded-Wonder” Zack Galifianakis hugged it out with Justin Bartha in nothing but a jock strap and t-shirt all the way to Ed Helms kicking his over-controlling girlfriend to the curb, this movie was funny.
Directed by Old School‘s Todd Phillips, this is another comedic gem. Most of the people in this movie had always been supporting actors. Bradley Cooper most memorably known as Sidney Bristow’s reporter pal from Alias to Ed Helms from The Office. This movie, however, should prove to be the jumping off point for Zack Galifianakis’ career as the box office receipts shows that no one was interested in Land of the Lost and he was the funniest thing in the movie.
The Hangover is simple: four guys head to Vegas for a bachelor party and wake up the next morning with the groom missing, a tiger in the bathroom, and yaddi yaddi yadda–the trailer shows you all that. What it doesn’t show you is the non-stop-smart-as-shit one-liners performed naturally by three actors who are the cream of the crop in straight-faced dry sarcasm.
