Adult Swim Announces Fall Schedule for 2011 – 2012

by Joe Gillis, May 19 2011 // 12:34 PM

Of all the networks out there, both major “big four” and smaller, Adult Swim is one of our favorites. They have some of the funniest and most unusual (in a good way) programming on TV and we watch pretty much all of their shows religiously.

Obviously, we’re happy to hear that today Adult Swim has announced its new schedule of programming for the Fall of 2011 into 2012. Here’s all the scoop on new and returning shows from the official press release:

New original series and specials:

· NTSF:SD:SUV::—NTSF:SD:SUV:: (National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle), is a clandestine team of government agents working together to protect San Diego from numerous terrorist threats coming in daily from such evil countries as Mexico, Canada and Guam. This team of highly trained operatives has only one job: saving your ass so you can drive your Prius and see your movies in 3-D without worrying about living in a country run by no-good terrorists.

As with many other acronym-ed police procedurals that dominate the airwaves, NTSF:SD:SUV::’s season of 15-minute episodes is ripped from the headlines and full of suspense, action, drama, cliffhangers, yelling, passionate love-making, more yelling, death and plenty of pregnant pauses. NTSF:SD:SUV:: is created by Paul Scheer and stars Scheer, Rebecca Romjin, Rob Riggle, Kate Mulgrew, Brandon Johnson, June Diane Raphael, Martin Starr and S.A.M., the first sentient robot on television. Paul Scheer and Jonathan Stern are executive producers. Curtis Gwinn is co-executive producer. Series premieres this summer on Adult Swim.

· THE VENTURE BROS. SPECIAL—FROM THE LADLE TO THE GRAVE: THE STORY OF SHALLOW GRAVY—See the Venture Family as you’ve never seen them before: in a 15-minute documentary-style animated special. Follow the meteoric rise, the equally meteoric fall, and the decidedly un-meteor-like second coming of the most important band Hank Venture, Dermott Fitctel and H.E.L.P.eR. robot have ever been in: Shallow Gravy.

by Joe Gillis, May 19 2011 // 9:00 AM

Now that NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox have announced their Fall schedules, we’re getting the other, smaller, networks and all of their info. This time around its The CW and their slate of new and returning shows.

CW’s fall schedule includes 3 blocks of shows from top producers, with One Tree Hill being held for midseason. There will be a Josh Schwartz/Stephanie Savage block on Monday, with new medical drama Hart of Dixie airing after Gossip Girl.

Kevin Williamson takes over Thursday night with new teen witch drama The Secret Circle following The Vampire Diaries, and McG is the man for Friday with Nikita taking over at 8 PM for Smallville with Supernatural still at 9PM. 90210 is moving from Monday to Tuesday to help launch the new Sarah Michelle Gellar drama Ringer.

As sad as we were to see Smallville go its nice to see Gellar return to TV. Let’s hope her new show does her justice. It won’t be Buffy (obviously) but let’s hope its good.

Here’s the full release from the CW as well as the schedule and descriptions of the new shows:

The CW Network will unveil the schedule for its 2011-2012 season today at its annual upfront presentation for advertisers, affiliates and national media from Jazz at Lincoln Center. Electro hip-hop group LMFAO will stage a rousing flash mob dance and performed their hit song “Party Rock Anthem” to open the show. The announcement was made by Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment, and Mark Pedowitz, the new President of The CW.

“We’re thrilled to present the most exciting primetime schedule The CW has ever had, comprised of shows that feature bold concepts, proven TV stars and up-and-coming, breakout talent,” said Ostroff. “In just five years, we’ve built an instantly recognizable brand that resonates with both viewers and advertisers and is known for being smartly provocative, culturally current, emotionally authentic and a leader in digital and social media. This upcoming season will continue to establish The CW as a premier destination for our viewers, especially women.”

CBS Announces Fall Schedule for 2011 – 2012

by Joe Gillis, May 18 2011 // 8:00 AM

The primetime TV landscape for Fall is almost complete. With NBC, ABC and Fox already releasing their schedules for Fall, CBS now joins in and has announced their primetime schedule for 2011 and 2012 as well.

Some of the changes made by the network for Fall include moving CSI from Thursday to Wednesday nights and launching new drama Person of Interest in its place. In addition, The Good Wife will move to Sundays and Rules of Engagement to Saturdays.

New series from the network include three new dramas and two new comedies. They are as follows: Person of Interest, a crime thriller from executive producer J.J. Abrams starring Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson and Taraji P. Henson; Unforgettable, starring Dylan Walsh and Poppy Montgomery as a former detective with a rare condition that enables her to remember virtually every detail from every day of her life.

In addition, CBS will debut A Gifted Man about a preeminent surgeon whose life changes forever when his deceased ex-wife returns, starring Patrick Wilson and Jennifer Ehle; 2 Broke Girls, a comedy about two strikingly different young waitresses who form an unlikely friendship, starring Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs; and an odd-couple comedy, How to Be A Gentleman, starring David Hornsby and Kevin Dillon, about a refined magazine columnist and his very unrefined personal trainer.

These new series will be joined by 19 returning shows including NCIS, The Big Bang Theory, 60 Minutes, Hawaii Five-O, Mike & Molly, Survivor and The Amazing Race.

Heres the new Fall schedule:

ABC Announces Fall Schedule for 2011 – 2012

by Joe Gillis, May 17 2011 // 8:00 AM

With NBC and Fox already announcing their schedules for the Fall, ABC is next up. The network made its announcements this morning at its upfront presentation.

Some of the highlights include Tim Allen returning to the network to launch a new comedy block on Tuesday nights with his show Last Man Standing. In addition, ABC will launch six of its 13 new scripted series in the fall, including Charlie’s Angels, which will be the anchor show for Thursday nights.

The network also renewed modest performer Happy Endings, giving it the slot after Modern Family. New ABC series for the 2011-12 season are Apartment 23, Charlie’s Angels, Good Christian Belles, Last Man Standing, Man Up, Missing, Once Upon a Time, Pan Am, Revenge, The River, Scandal, Suburgatory and Work It.

America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, Body of Proof, Dancing with the Stars, Desperate Housewives, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Happy Endings, Secret Millionaire, Shark Tank and 20/20 join previously announced returning series Castle, Cougar Town, Grey’s Anatomy, The Middle, Modern Family and Private Practice.

All new fall series have received 13-episode orders, while the size of the orders for most midseason shows have not been announced. Good to see Castle coming back, especially after Monday’s amazing season finale. Of the others, we’re probably most interested in Missing (mostly because of Ashley Judd), Pan Am, Once Upon a Time and maybe Charlie’s Angeles, but mostly to see how bad it probably is.

ABC’s fall primetime schedule is as follows, followed by descriptions of all the new shows:

MONDAY

8:00 p.m. “Dancing with the Stars”
10:00 p.m. “Castle”

TUESDAY

8:00 p.m. “Last Man Standing”
8:30 p.m. “Man Up”
9:00 p.m. “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show”
10:00 p.m. “Body of Proof”

Fox Announces Fall Schedule for 2011 – 2012

by Joe Gillis, May 16 2011 // 12:00 PM

As with NBC earlier today, Fox jumped into the fray and announced its primetime schedule for next season also. The network has one new drama, Terra Nova, three comedies, New Girl, I Hate My New Daughter and the animated Allen Gregory, launching in the fall.

Dramas Alcatraz, the Bones spinoff Finder and animated comedy Napoleon Dynamite drop in midseason. Prehistoric drama Terra Nova wil anchor the network’s Monday lineup at 8 PM with House moving to 9 PM. House will return to 8 PM in midseason to help launch the J.J. Abrams show Alcatraz.

Fox is keeping the Tuesday comedy block with New Girl joining Glee and Raising Hope. I Hate My Teenage Daughter will launch after X-Factor. Also remaining where it is is American Idol on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Thank goodness for that, right?

Obviously, we’re happy to see Family Guy and Fringe back for next year. It just would have been nice to see Human Target get another chance. That could have fit nicely in the hole left by Terra Nova once it gets cancelled.

Yes, we’re cynical about Fox so we assume they will cancel the show just when it starts to get interesting. Fox, this is why we can’t have nice things.

Here are Fox’s fall and midseason schedules followed by descriptions of the new shows:

FOX FALL 2011 PRIMETIME SCHEDULE

MONDAY
8:00-9:00 PM  - TERRA NOVA (new)
9:00-10:00 PM  - HOUSE

TUESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM  - GLEE
9:00-9:30 PM  - NEW GIRL (wt) (new)
9:30-10:00 PM  - RAISING HOPE

NBC Announces Fall Schedule for 2011 – 2012

by Joe Gillis, May 16 2011 // 9:00 AM

Its that time of year. The time when networks announce their entire schedule for the Fall and Mid-Season. First out of the gate is NBC which is introducing 12 new series next season including six dramas and six comedies.

NBC has put six new series including the dramas including The Playboy Club, Prime Suspect and Grimm and comedies Up All Night, Free Agents and Whitney on the fall schedule and has slots reserved for Smash and The Firm in midseason. Drama Awake and comedies Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea, Bent and BFF have yet to be scheduled.

Of course, we’re glad to see some of our favorite shows returning next season including Community and Chuck. Oddly absent from the schedule at the moment is 30 Rock, which is apparently being postponed to make way for freshman comedy Whitney. Let’s hope it comes back soon.

Following is the full schedule, descriptions of the new shows and some preview video. This is a big one folks to read on.

Syfy Announces New Schedule and Programming at Upfronts

by Joe Gillis, Mar 23 2011 // 7:00 AM

At their upfront presentation late yesterday, Syfy mapped out their programming plans for the rest of 2011 and into 2012. Network President Dave Howe introduced the largest original programming slate in the channel’s 18-year history, highlighted by 14 new original series and events comprising more than 100 hours of programming.

In July, Syfy will launch four scripted series in the same month — for the first time ever — new drama Alphas and returning series Warehouse 13, Eureka and Haven. Hopefully, this will help the network which is coming off off a year marked by disappointing ratings for Caprica and Stargate: Universe, both of which were cancelled after shorter-than-hoped-for runs. However, new series Being Human and Face Off, which have both been renewed, are doing better than expected and look to elevate the network out of its slump.

Also announced during the event was the launch of a new Syfy publishing business of genre games under the “Syfy Games” banner. Here’s all the info on Syfy’s upcoming slate of programming and projects in development:

NEW SCRIPTED SERIES

Alphas — Premiering in July — Alphas follows a team of ordinary citizens whose brain anomalies imbue them with extraordinary mental and physical abilities. Taking the law into their own hands, the unlikely team, led by Dr. Leigh Rosen (Emmy Award-winner and Oscar nominee David Strathairn) investigates cases that suggest other Alpha activity to uncover what the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have not been able, or willing, to solve. These gifted individuals must balance their quirky personalities and disparate backgrounds with their not always visible powers as they work to solve crimes, stop the ticking time bomb and catch the enemy.

Alphas also stars Malik Yoba, Warren Christie, Laura Mennell, Ryan Cartwright and Azita Ghanizada, and is a production of Universal Cable Productions and BermanBraun Television. Executive Producers are Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein for BermanBraun, Zak Penn and Ira Steven Behr.

Catch A Sneak Peek At Jerry Bruckheimer’s ‘Chase’

by Joe Gillis, Jun 21 2010 // 12:00 PM

With the news of upcoming Fall TV season pretty much out of the bag we’ve been bringing you previews for many of the new shows here at the site. This way, perhaps you can figure out your Fall viewing schedule well in advance so you don’t miss any show you might have wanted to see.

This time around we’ve got a preview for super producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s upcoming show Chase, which features Kelli Giddish as US Marshal Annie Frost. She specializes in tracking down outlaws who don’t want to pay their debt to society and you can expect a lot of running, shooting and probably some fighting as well.

In the three clips we’ve got for you we hear from star Giddish about the physical nature of her role and series producer Jerry Bruckheimer about what really makes the series work. Also, we’ve got a sneak peek clip from the show which gives you a better idea of what it’s all about.

Check out all three videos after the jump. Chase, which in addition to Giddish features Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco and Jesse Metcalfe, will air Mondays at 9/8C on NBC.

Get a Sneak Peek At the New ‘Hawaii Five-O’

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 3 2010 // 12:00 PM

As reboots go, CBS’s update of the show Hawaii Five-O is actually one I’m kinda looking forward to. Sure, I also wish networks could come up with more original ideas instead of looking to the past and updating shows that have already been around. But I guess you can’t have everything.

Like some of CBS’s other shows, Five-O is a police procedural which takes the concept in a slightly new direction without making it completely different. It’s familiar without being a complete retread and manages to be somewhat fresh take on things.

It also includes lush tropical settings, car chases, gunfights and an appealing cast which includes Alex O’Laughlin, Scott Caan, Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim. Will the show succeed? Perhaps. Fortunately, the cast manages to uplift the somewhat familiar premise and as with most series, will be a key factor in its success.

Fortunately, CBS has done a good job putting the show together and it could enjoy a rather long run on the network. Look for Hawaii Five-O to hit the beach this Fall on Mondays at 10/9C on CBS. Until then, check out a preview of the show after the jump.

Get a Sneak Peak at ABC’s ‘No Ordinary Family’

by Matt Raub, May 25 2010 // 2:00 PM

Now that this season of primetime TV is coming to a close, we have a few bright spots on the horizon. We’ve been bringing you some of the newest Fall schedules, along with a few previews of upcoming shows we think look cool. Keeping up with that theme we bring you a sneak peak at ABC’s new superhero comedy No Ordinary Family.

From a distance, the story plays out like a live-action version of The Incredibles, but upon closer inspection it actually has a bit more depth. Michael Chiklis plays Jim Powell, a regular husband and father who, alongside his wife and two children, are in an accident that give each of them unique powers. His wife, Stephanie (played by Dexter’s Julie Benz) develops super speed, while his children develop telepathy and other extraordinary mind powers. Jim, however, leads the family with the gift of invulnerability and super strength.

There are some obvious and great connections to former Chiklis projects in the pilot, such as his work as Ben Grimm/The Thing in Fantastic Four, and the fact that he plays a cop again, much like The Shield or The Commish.

The pilot has the potential to be exactly what NBC’s Heroes wasn’t for a lot of fans, and could be a fun, quirky family comedy with a comic book backdrop. Check out the trailer after the jump and be sure to keep an eye (and a DVR) out for No Ordinary Family this Fall on ABC.

Check Out Previews for The CW’s ‘Nikita’ and ‘Hellcats’

by Chris Ullrich, May 20 2010 // 4:00 PM

As we’ve done with Fox, ABC and NBC, we’ve got some previews of the new shows hitting The CW in the Fall. Of the two I’m most interested in the reboot of La Femme Nikita. Although, in truth, I think my interest is mostly piqued by the fact that Maggie Q is the star. Still, just because she’s super hot doesn’t mean the show isn’t good.

Besides, Nikita, we’vealso  got a preview for The CW’s other new Fall show Hellcats, which is being produced by Smallville star Tom Welling. This show is slightly less interesting to me, even though it does feature cheerleaders. Yes, today is one of those days.

But I digress. Take a look at the videos after the jump and let us know what you think of these shows.

Next Season of ‘Smallville’ To Be The Last

by Chris Ullrich, May 20 2010 // 2:00 PM

From the not really surprising department comes the “official” word that the next season of Smallville will be the last. The network made the announcement during its upfront presentation this morning saying that it will end the show after the tenth season.

Again, not so surprising considering the show seemed to always be “on the bubble” and never was a ratings winner. However, this season the show performed far better than expected, which reportedly earned it a renewal for a tenth and final season.

As a fan of the show, I’m happy to see it coming back for at least one more season. And truth be told, the show was very good this year so I’m not surprised it did better in the ratings. People really seemed to respond to the most recent storyline and the relationship between Clark, Lois and The Blur was well done.

With next season being the last now we just need to do a storyline that will take it from the small screen to the big one. Tom Welling has spent years perfecting Clark Kent and Superman, I think it’s time he got the chance to play them in a feature film. Who’s with me?
