San Diego Comic Con was a huge show for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds. At the start of the show, four new characters were added to the game’s roster with Doctor Doom, Super Skrull, Trish and Chun-Li. Then two days later, Thor, Marvel’s god of thunder and star of his upcoming self-titled feature film, and Amaterasu, the wolf god from Capcom’s Okami were added to the game as well. While on the show floor at the Con, I got the chance to get hands on with Marvel vs. Capcom 3. An old school fan of not just Marvel and the Capcom fighting properties, the Marvel vs. Capcom series has been one of my favorite’s since its debut in the arcade over ten years ago. There was some initial apprehension about actually playing the game. It had a lot to live up to. Even seeing video and screens, things could totally change if the gameplay didn’t live up to expectations.
Luckily, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 delivered. While it was still an early build of the game and more balancing will surely be taking place as more characters are added to the game, it felt like things never changed. Not only does the game look beautiful with some awesome visual effects but it plays great too. The feel of completely organized chaos of everything going on during a fight that a player can still know exactly what his or her team is doing at the time has been recaptured.
