We are among those who believe the saying “Better late than never.” So, in that spirit, here’s a brand new episode of The Flickcast . . . better late than never. See what we did there?
On this week’s episode, Chris and Joe are still sorta angry, but a lot less angry than a couple weeks ago. Thanks goodness. Topics this week include more on Mad Max: Fury Road, the Flash finale, more Game of Thrones controversy and a whole lot more. Indeed.
Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the HBO documentary Montage of Heck, about Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Joe’s pick of the 1968 classic sci-fi movie Planet of the Apes.

In celebration of the Normandy D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944, this week’s review is the 1962 “Grandaddy of all war movies” The Longest Day. Legendary producer Darryl F. Zanuck and directors Ken Annakin (British scenes), Andrew Marton (American scenes), Bernhard Wicki (German scenes) and an uncredited John Wayne bring Cornelius Ryan’s 1959 best selling novel to the big screen.
The Longest Day stars over forty two (at that time) of the most acclaimed international actors including Eddie Albert (Colonel Thompson, 29th U.S. Infantry Div.), Paul Anka (U.S. 2nd Ranger Battalion), Richard Beymer (Pvt Arthur “Dutch” Schultz, 82nd Airborne Div.), Red Buttons, (Pvt. John Steele, 82nd Airborne Div.), Mel Ferrer (Major General Robert Haines) and Henry Fonda (Brig. General Theodore Roosevelt Jr., Deputy Commander 4th U.S. Infantry Div.).
It also featured Jeffery Hunter (Sgt. (later Lt.) John Fuller), Roddy McDowall (Pvt. Morris, 4th U.S. Div.), Robert Mitchum (Brig. General Norman Cota, Asst. Commander 29th U.S. Infantry Div.), Robert Ryan (Brig. General James M. Gavin, Asst. Commander 82nd Airborne Div.), and the Duke himself, John Wayne as Lt. Col. Benjamin Vandervoort, Commander 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Reg.

If you’re a fan of somewhat obscure cult classic TV series like we are around here, then this post is for you. From the producer of such series as Quantum Leap, Magnum, PI, Airwolf and NCIS came a show about an intrepid adventuring pilot who searches for lost and exotic treasures much like Indiana Jones. It starred Stephen Collins of Star Trek and 7th Heaven, Caitlin O’Heaney, Jeff MacKay and Roddy McDowall and ran for one season in the early 80’s.
And now, thanks to the folks at Shout! Factory and Fabulous Films, the entire action-packed 20 episodes are coming to DVD. Want to know more? Of course you do. Check out all the info from the official press release.

This week on The Flickcast, Matt is back home from his trip to sunny LA and he and Chris are back in action with a whole bunch of new topics. Some of what gets discussed in this episode includes Mark Strong as Sinestro in Green Lantern, Conan in 3D, Wal-Mart buying Vudu, Betty White on SNL, Call of Duty and its many incarnations, Ian McShane as Blackbeard, the sale of Action Comics #1 and a whole lot more.
They both also made some good picks again this week incuding Matt’s pick of the short film The Legacy and Chris’ pick of the classic 80’s TV series Tales of the Gold Monkey, featuring Stephen Collins and Roddy McDowall.

We shouldn’t really be surprised about any remakes or reboots these days. With the new Star Trek out recently and reboots of films like Predator and Dune in the works, its just a matter of time before someone dusts off another old project ripe for an update. In this case, according to an article at The Hollywood Reporter, that project is the 1985 horror “classic” Fright Night — which Dreamworks has the rights to and is currently in the process of developing an updated version.
In case you’re not familiar with the original horror-comedy film written and directed by Tom Holland and featuring Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale and Roddy McDowall, it concerns a teenager who discovers that his neighbors are vampires. Then, once he realizes that they are, with the help of his girlfriend and a washed-up horror TV show host, he has to destroy the vampires before they take over the town.
According to the article, no writer has been hired but the updated version will keep the comedy-horror tone while modernizing the visual and make-up effects. In the scope of things, I guess its a good thing Dreamworks is taking this on. If a remake or reboot has to be made, it seems like that studio could probably do it justice. At the moment, no other information about the Fright Night remake is available. But when there is, we’ll bring it to you.
