This is a big week for comics. Steve Rogers returns from the dead, the really beautiful Justice League: Cry for Justice book comes out and another new Deadpool book (because one can never have enough of those) hts the comic store shelves.
“Nobody ever really stays dead in comics.” That’s about as tired a phrase as “Walk softly and carry a big stick.” Still, things certainly don’t change for Marvel Comics in this sense as they are bringing back Steve Rogers from the dead as Captain America in Captain America: Reborn #1. Eisner, and now Harvey, nominated writer Ed Brubaker guides this book with art by Bryan Hitch (Ultimates, Fantastic Four). I’m getting this one for sure.
Another Marvel book that I’m really pumped for is another Deadpool mini. Let’s count ‘em: there’s regular Deadpool with Daniel Way and Paco Medina, there’s Deadpool: Suicide Kings (which is selling out big time) with Mike Benson and now there’s Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth. Which, let’s just say, should fulfill your need for zombies – and dinosaurs and dimension-hopping. Ah, click on the link it should be a lot of fun.

As we all know, Thursday was a pretty tragic day in the celebrity world. With the loss of both Farrah Fawcett and Micheal Jackson, many reports of false deaths were coming out of the woodwork from the world of Twitter and even some news outlets. One of the rumors stemmed from a fake Associated Press report that 80′s pop singer Rick Astley was found dead in his hotel room, liking fans to video proof of his death, another was that George Clooney had crashed while flying a small plane over Denver Colorado.
Of these rumors, one seemed to stick out above the rest. This rumor was that actor Jeff Goldblum had fallen to his death off of a cliff while filming a new movie in New Zealand. Thankfully, when there are fake stories floating around the world, there are fake reporters out there for field them. Goldblum made a special appearance on The Colbert Report last night to talk about how his death has effected him, and where he goes from here. Very funny stuff, and worthwhile knowing that not all of these pranks go unmentioned.
Check out the video after the jump.

Screened at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, Assassination of a High School President, by relative unknown Brett Simon, is already making quite a few waves, and could become a memory before you ever even see a theatrical release.
The film is about high school newspaper reporter Bobby Funke (Rocket Science’s Reece Thompson), who uncovers a series of conspiracy plots going on in his private school. The film also brings in the likes of Bruce Willis, Mischa Barton, and Michael Rapaport in the supporting cast for what most are calling “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in high school”.
With the film’s positive reviews, that may not be enough to get a theatrical release. The film’s distributor, Yari Film Group, was recently forced into bankruptcy, which has put Assassination, as well as a few other titles, up on the shelf. This means that the audience may never see Simon’s high school noir. How can you help? By becoming a fan of the film on Facebook, you can help bring awareness to what looks to be a funny and quirky independent film, and save it from direct-to-DVD obscurity. Once studios like Sony Pictures Classics see that there is a built-in audience for the film, they are more likely to distribute to theaters. Check out the first trailer for the film after the jump.

Now packed with even more Harry and Dumbledore, this new Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince featurette, um, features some extended scenes of Harry and his mentor/father figure trying to decide just what to do about the things going on these days at Hogwarts and in the world of Muggles. Of course, they don’t decide to just sit around and talk but instead embark on a perilous journey to retrieve the one final piece of the puzzle that will help them destroy Voldemort. Did you really think they wouldn’t?
Plus, as this is a “behind the scenes” video we also get some cast and director interviews explaining some of the finer plot points as well as a further look at the filmmaking process itself. All in all, a rather interesting video that adds even more fuel to the fire of excitement for this movie to finally be released. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait much longer as the film will hit theaters on July 15.
If you’re a Harry Potter fan, be sure to watch the full video after the jump.

You’re writer/director Matt Reeves and you’ve just finished your first big monster movie for the next generation Cloverfield. The movie was pretty well received and ended up making a decent amount of money, which is good. Now, you’ve got to figure out what to do next. Apparently, according to the LA Times, it didn’t take Reeves very long to make that decision.
According to an interview with the paper, Reeves is gearing up to make an English language version of the Swedish vampire thriller Let the Right One In. The film, which is the story of a lonely 12-year-old boy who realizes the kind girl who moved in next door is actually a vampire, was shown to Reeves before it was released with the intent of gauging his interest in a remake. According to the paper, he had a lot of interest.
“I was just hooked,” Reeves said in the interview. “I was so taken with the story and I had a very personal reaction. It reminded me a lot of my childhood, with the metaphor that the hard times of your pre-adolescent, early adolescent moment, that painful experience is a horror.”
As for reaction from fans of the original film who are concerned about the “Americanization” of it? “There’s definitely people who have a real bull’s-eye on the film,” Reeves said in the interview, “and I can understand because of people’s’ love of the [original] film that there’s this cynicism that I’ll come in and trash it, when in fact I have nothing but respect for the film. I’m so drawn to it for personal and not mercenary reasons, my feeling about it is if I didn’t feel a personal connection and feel it could be its own film, I wouldn’t be doing it. I hope people give us a chance.”
Reeves recently finished a second draft of the script, now known as Let Me In, and is also scouting locations. He expects to begin filming later this year for a 2010 release.

Back in March 1989, we were winding down after a crazy decade of questionable fashion, amazing music, and the end of a beloved President’s term. Madonna, The B-52’s and The Cure were dominating the radio, and the Academy Award for Best Picture would go to Driving Miss Daisy. That’s also when rookie director Michael Lehmann released his low budget black comedy, Heathers.
Set in Anytown, USA, Heathers is the dark and engaging story of high school junior Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder) and her unwilling existence in the feared and revered power-clique, know as “The Heathers.” Led by the cruel and punishing Heather Chandler (Kim Walker), the Heathers consist of Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty), a bulimic follower that loathes Chandler and secretly dreams of ruling the group, and Heather McNamara (Lisanne Falk), a cheerleader who has no identity and a need for acceptance.
When bad boy J.D. (Christian Slater) arrives at the school, Veronica is drawn to his mysterious irreverence, but soon finds out that he has a psychotic streak that results in the deaths of several Westerburg High students. Only when Veronica finally stands up to both J.D. and the Heathers does she gain back her own identity, but also her old true friend, Betty Finn (Renee Estevez).

Empire Magazine has devoted a few pages of its current print issue to the Diablo Cody scripted, Megan Fox starring horror/comedy Jennifer’s Body. You may ask yourself right about now why we (or you for that matter) should care about this particular film. Fair question. Let’s talk a bit more about the film and perhaps you’ll get a better idea of why.
First off, the film is written by the very talented Diablo Cody, who’s previous writing effort was the terrific Juno. Second, the film stars Megan Fox as a demonically possessed cheerleader who proceeds to kill her classmates in new and fun kinds of ways. Third, during some of these killings, Fox manages to be in various stages of undress. Finally, the film is directed by Karyn Kusama, who so far has made a very good film in Girlfight and a decent one in Aeon Flux.
And did I mention that Megan Fox plays a cheerleader who kills people and tends to take her clothes off? Just wanted to make sure you were paying attention. Let’s be honest, having Megan Fox in a movie, especially right now with the mega success of Transformers 2, can’t hurt. Plus, you have to add in the Diablo Cody factor and more than likely a decent directing job. Put all that together and I don’t know exactly what it makes but did I happen to mention Megan Fox takes her clothes off quite a bit in the film?
Check out a few of the Jennifer’s Body pics after the break. For the rest of them, head over to Film School Rejects where they apparently have so much time on their hands they scan in photos of Megan Fox from magazines. But hey, we’re glad they do. Jennifer’s Body, which features Megan Fox, Amanda Zeyfried, Adam Brody, J.K. Simmons and Amy Sedaris, hits theaters on September 18.

Previously, we gave you some info about the new HBO show Hung, featuring Thomas Jane as a guy with problems, no money and no choice who ends up using the one big asset he has left to make a living. Yes, I’m talking about his penis. There, I said it. The show is about a guy who with a large penis who becomes a prostitute and uses his penis to make a living.
Moving past that, reviews of the show and mentions of it online have all made one “penis” joke or another because the show is, ostensibly, about a guy’s member and most people who write tv reviews these days, particularly online, tend to act like ten year old boys. Of course, the crazy kids at Jimmy Kimmel Live decided to take it one step further and made a video to show you exactly what that means. But really, can you blame them? The show is about a guy’s penis after all.
No, the video doesn’t feature any Thomas Jane nudity, sorry ladies. It is, however, quite funny and worth a look. Hung airs Sundays at 10PM on HBO. Check out the video after the jump.

Sadly, not very many of you ended up watching Ron Moore and Michael Taylor’s “back door” pilot Virtuality on Fox last Friday. The numbers were not very high at all, which pretty much ensures the show will never become a series. That’s unfortunate because the pilot was very well done and would have made quite a good series.
Well cast, well directed (by Peter Berg) with engaging characters, clever dialog, some action, suspense and a mystery plot twist at the end would have made me tune in each week to follow the continuing story of the Phaeton crew on its mission to save earth. My one major problem with the show isn’t really a problem with the show exactly, its with Fox billing it as a “TV Movie.”
This is not a movie because a movie has an ending that finishes a story and explains most of the questions raised during the story. This was a pilot that assuredly ended with the beginning of a story, which is exactly what a pilot is supposed to do. For whatever reason, Fox has consigned Virtuality to the scrap heap of discarded quality shows that never really got a chance and decided to cut its losses and air the show on Friday to see what happens.
Fortunately, you can now catch this terrific pilot on Hulu and Fox on Demand. Go watch it and enjoy it as much as I did. Then, if you do, let Fox know you would really like to see it become a series. Who knows, maybe they’ll actually listen? Although, I wouldn’t suggest holding your breath.
Be sure to check out the show on Hulu or feel free to watch it right here after the jump.
