One of the many things going on next week at the San Diego Comic-Con will be a panel for one film in particular, which definitely looks like its worth checking out. Alien Trespass is a film chock-full of known talent from director R.W. Goodwin (X-Files) to Robert Patrick (T2: Judgment Day), and even Eric McCormack (Will and Grace, Trust Me). From the official press release:
Alien Trespass, a delightful homage to the great science-fiction movies of the 1950s, invades our planet’s digital world August 11 on Blu-ray and DVD. Image Entertainment is releasing the Rangeland Production which stars Eric McCormack (Will and Grace, Trust Me), Jenni Baird, Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years) and Robert J. Of the people across the world who go to movies on a regular basis, there is a smaller portion of the population that likes to do, what some people call “movie hopping” where you set aside a day and see several movies you were hoping to see. It’s a fun thing to do, but movie ticket sites can make it difficult to find out when some movies end and others begin. The Double Feature Finder now has your back, and is here to help.
The site, which is pretty simple in mechanics, works like this: you type in your zip code and a movie you’re hoping to see, The DFF then gives you a list of theaters to choose from. From there you can see when your movie is playing, click on “find double feature” and information pops up on what movies are playing right after. It makes planning out your day immensely easy, and helps you see another movie if you have time.

Back in 2001, legendary director of “family friendly” films Chris Columbus teamed up with Warner Bros. to bring the works of J.K. Rowling to the silver screen with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. They managed to do so with such amazing prestige and results that the rest of the films were sure to follow in line. This trend stayed true for a few more years with Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban. The movies were getting better and darker as the titular character grew older. Sadly, with the latest installment, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the only thing the audience gets this time is awkward emotions and a sense of loss.
With The Half-Blood Prince, which is based on the sixth book in the Harry Potter series, the viewer is treated differently. Rather than open their minds to a secret world of magic and wizardry, they are already inundated with such things We have all just gotten over the loss of Harry’s “uncle”, Sirius Black, and the very first battle is waged between good and evil. This movie should carry on the excitement and those feelings, right? Sadly, not in this case.

As you might have guessed, we’re big fans of the BBC show Torchwood here at The Flickcast. And now that the new, albiet very short, season is almost here, we’re pretty excited about the further adventures of Ianto, Gwen and Captain Jack. Last time, we had two minutes of footage from the first episode to show you.
Now, we’ve got an even longer clip to bring you. In fact, its the first seven minutes of the first episode, which is pretty darn cool. Torchwood will also be at Comic-Con in San Diego with a screening of the final episode on Saturday, July 25 at 7:30pm and a panel session on Sunday, July 26 at 2:15pm.
Creator Russell T. Davies, executive producer Julie Gardner and director Euros Lynn will be on hand as well and we’re hoping to snag some interviews. Meantime, Torchwood: Children of Earth premieres five nights straight starting on Monday, July 20 at 9E/P on BBC America. Until then, be sure to check out the first seven minutes of the show after the break.

After a couple years and some false starts, the big screen adaptation of Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli’s comic Hack/Slash seems to finally be on track. I’ve been following the progress of this project for some time now and interviewed Tim Seeley and Hack/Slash screenwriter Justin Marks last year when it seemed the movie was a go. Sadly, for whatever reason, it didn’t happen that time.
But now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has a green light from Rogue Pictures and owner Relativity Media and a brand new director to go along with it: commercial and music video helmer Fredrik Bond. According to the article, the comic, which centers on Cassie Hack, a young woman who travels the country killing serial killers and other murderers, has been a top contender to receive a greenlight from Rogue for some time.
Fortunately it appears that time has come with the movie expected to begin filming early next year. No word yet on who will be playing the pivotal role of Cassie Hack. But don’t worry, when we find out, you’ll be the first to know. While we wait for the movie, be sure to pick up the latest issue of Hack/Slash from Devil’s Due Publishing at your local comic shop. You’ll be glad you did.

Following the Apple App Store’s 1-year anniversary this past Saturday, Apple today released the official numbers which show how well the App Store has done during its first year of operation. Remember, as impressive as these numbers are, they represent the downloads and sales of applications for only two devices: the iPhone and the iPod Touch.
Here’s the main numbers so you can see just how amazing this really is, especially for Apple:
* Over 65,000 apps available at the store
* Over 100,000 developers contributing apps to the store
* Over 1,500,000,000 downloads from the store. Yes, that’s “B” as in Billion
Obviously, Steve Jobs is pretty happy with the success of the App Store. “The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, in the release from Apple. “With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.”
Well yeah, you think? At this point, I would say its basically impossible for anyone else to catch up. Nice work Apple.

With Comic-Con in San Diego a little over a week away, news coming out of the big networks and movie studios is starting to slow down in anticipation. It makes sense that they want to wait and announce anything really big next week when they can be sure to get as much exposure as possible to their intended fans. Fortunately, there’s still some things coming out this week we can share with you.
Case in point are these two new preview clips from SyFy’s Warehouse 13 and Eureka, which are not even on Hulu yet. The clips each highlight some of the fun and excitement these two shows will be bringing in this week’s episodes. Not only that, the Warehouse 13 clips also features the special guest star making an appearance on the show this week: BSG’s Tricia Helfer. The Eureka clip, on the other hand, goes in a different direction and features series regular Erica Cerra signing Fabulous Baker Boys style on a piano. I’m sure its all in good fun.
Warehouse 13 airs tonight on SyFy at 9/8C and Eureka airs Friday at 9/8C. Meantime, click through to check out the clips from both shows.

Obviously, this week’s big release is Blackest Night #1. To say the least, I’ve been pumped and ready for this series since the end of the Sinestro Corps War. I think you probably got a pretty accurate gage of what it will be like in the pages of last week’s Green Lantern #43, and this new series is likely to be a doozy.
Although, as much as I’m looking forward to Blackest Night, what I’m really massively recommending this week is a personal favorite of mine: Peter Tomasi’s The Light Brigade. Getting a re-printing, this beautiful book drawn by Peter Snejberg has it all: Angels, Demons, Nazis and a couple of regular Joes protecting the Sword of God.
My other recommendation is the regular Doctor Who series premiering this week. Originally, it was the comics of this TV series that got me into the show. This was before the Sy-Fy channel that would repeat old episodes. Now that Doctor Who its coming back on a regular monthly basis, I’ll be hopping all over this book.

NBC’s new original online series CTRL, featuring Arrested Development and Chuck alumni Tony Hale, is now live at the show’s website. At the site you can view the first three episodes of the series and also check out other aspects of the show and the creative team such as character and creator bios, interactive presentations, photos, video, games and more.
In case you’re not familiar with the show, it centers on a mild-mannered office worker named Stuart (Hale) who’s pretty much not going anywhere in life until he discovers he has a magic keyboard on his office computer. Once he makes that discovery, his life has unlimited second chances. As he uncovers other things his keyboard can do, Stuart resolves to use the keyboard’s powers to get even with Ben (Steve Howey), his office nemesis and rival for the affections of Elizabeth (Emy Coligado) — a girl Stuart loves but can barely speak to.
But just as Stuart is getting his life together, he hits yet another snag: Ben learns about the magic keyboard. Now, the battle for office supremacy, and Elizabeth, is on. This is a pretty interesting exparament by NBC. Creating and producing a show specifically for the web. I wonder how it will work?
Check out the first three episodes of the series online. Meantime, we’ve got a trailer for the show to share with you. Check out the trailer for the show after the jump.

Spider-Man is one of the most popular and enduring characters ever created. with several lines of comics, tv shows and hugely successful movies, the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is going to be around for a long time. Of course, Spider-Man started life as a comic from Marvel, created by the fantastic Stan Lee. And now, to continue that legacy, Marvel is announcing a brand new onglong series featuring your favorite web-slinging her0 called Web of Spider-Man — which hits shelves in October.
Here’s all the official Marvel news on the subject:
After the stunning events of Amazing Spider-Man #600, Spider-Man’s life is more unpredictable than ever—and it’s about to get even more tangled in the all new ongoing Web of Spider-Man, launching this October! That’s right, it’s the first new Spider-Man monthly series in two years and it kicks off with a bang, as one of Spider-Man greatest—and most controversial—foes returns! Each extra-sized issue of Web of Spider-Man features your favorite Spider-Man writers and artists presenting can’t-miss Spidey stories!
“With the ‘Gauntlet’ storyline starting up and many classic adversaries of Spider-man coming back to the book, we wanted to find a place to tell you more about them without it eating up too many pages of the thrice-weekly Amazing Spider-Man,” explained series editor Steve Wacker. “So while were tossing ideas around on where to best put that stuff, beleaguered assistant Tom Brennan came up with the notion to bring back the “Web” title as a way to give a home to stories to people caught up in Pete’s life. Starting with the first issue’s Kaine story by JM DeMatteis and then continuing onto stories about Electro, the Rhino, the Lizard and many more by Web-Head Fred van Lente and regular Spidey artist Barry Kitson, the stories here directly impact what we’re doing in Amazing Spider-Man!”

Picture it: Warner Brothers, 1930. Three siblings of ambiguous genetic origin are running amok on the Warner Bros lot. Studio executives take drastic measures and lock them in the water tower unaware that this is only the beginning of Yakko, Wakko and Dot Warner’s reign of mayhem.
Fast forward to 1993. I was a college freshman still wrapping my head around the concept of friends-with-benefits, and Yakko, Wakko and Dot were escaping from the water tower, eager to start their shenanigans after a 63-year hiatus. The rest is part of 90s cartoon history as beloved characters like Slappy the Squirrel and Pinky and the Brain became pre-TiVo recording necessities.
It seems that after 9,000 signatures were collected on a petition somewhere, the good folks at Fox Kids finally decided to release this animated classic on DVD for the next generation to enjoy. This 25 episode, five disc collection follows the antics and energy of Animaniacs all-stars Rita and Runt (the former voiced by Bernadette Peters,) a dog and cat duo, The Goodfeathers, a pigeon spoof on the iconic Godfather trilogy, and Slappy the Squirrel, a snarky showbiz veteran who educates her young nephew Skippy Squirrel on the ways of “the biz.”
Last but definitely not least are perhaps the most memorable of Animaniacs characters, Pinky and The Brain. Gene-spliced mice from Acme Laboratories, the duo spend every night alone in the lab, plotting to take over the world. The Brain is diabolical and brilliant and Pinky is really quite mad.
