While most disaster movies of late have gone the way of the Poseidon Adventure remake, there has been some positive buzz about the newest “the world is ending” film, 2012. Though the film is getting a November release (most disaster movies are known to do better during the summer) and has 10,000 BC’s Roland Emmerich at the helm, we do have some hope.
From what we know, the film focuses on the main character and his family on a microcosmic level as ancient prophecies come true. The world begins to literally fall apart around us, as the Earth has an expiration date of 2012. The tagline of the film is simply “We Were Warned,” which hopefully has nothing to do with the actual production of the movie and its resultant quality.
Writer Herald Kloser helped with the epic script and the film stars, in no particular order, John Cusack, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover, Oliver Platt, and Amanda Peet. Check out brand new footage and dialogue in the Japanese trailer after the jump.
Expect the world to end as we know it, at least according to 2012, on November 13.

Well friends, its that time you’ve been waiting for because its now official: Summer Glau and Joss Whedon are back together again. According to a statement released by Fox today, Glau will again team with her Firefly/Serenity creator Joss Whedon as a recurring cast member on Dollhouse. She will play a new character named “Bennett” on the show and that’s pretty much all we know at the moment except that she works at the Dollhouse and “shares a past” with Eliza Dushku’s character Echo.
Shares a past could be pretty interesting. Give me a minute here. . . okay, I’m back. Moving on.
In the statement, Fox also released details of other guest stars on the show’s second season, which starts on Friday, September 25 at 9/8C:
Summer Glau (“Firefly,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) reunites with Joss Whedon when the actress joins the cast of DOLLHOUSE this fall in a recurring role as BENNETT, a Dollhouse employee who shares a past with ECHO (Eliza Dushku). The second season of DOLLHOUSE premieres Friday, Sept. 25 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

We’ve been pulling out all the stops this week with coverage of Halloween 2. Yesterday we posted a few clips, Tuesday we had an exclusive chat with H2 co-star Sheri Moon Zombie, and we’ll even be bringing you a review of the film on Friday as well. We now bring you another treat: our exclusive interview with one of the masters of modern horror, and Halloween 2 writer/director, Rob Zombie.
Halloween 2 is Zombie’s fourth directorial effort, or his fifth if you count Werewolf Women of the S.S., since his debut with House of 1000 Corpses back in 2003. There are a few similar players that Zombie brought with him from House for the Halloween movies including his wife Sheri and Chris Hardwick.
We got the chance to talk to Rob about the rumored 4-hour first cut of H2, his work on the animated Haunted World of El Suberbeasto, and even his plans with the Danny Trejo project Tyrannosaurus Rex. Check out the interview after the jump. Special thanks to Midtown Comics in Manhattan for the location.
Halloween 2 hits theaters tonight at midnight.

Pull of the Week:
Beta Ray Bill: Godhunter #3 – Marvel – $3.99
Score: 8.0
I want more Beta Ray Bill. There, I said it. As long as Kieron Gillen writes it, I will be picking up anything that has the horse-headed version of Thor in it. Either that or more stories of Galactus and his heralds written by Kieron works too. This issue concludes the miniseries in fantastic style as the much made fun of hero Beta Ray Bill nears completion of his quest to eliminate Galactus. The issue opens with a scene the likes of which had only been witnessed with Galactus’s imprisonment to Annihillus during the Annihilation Wave (which is also shown during the issue) as the fading World Eater discusses the current state of affairs with his two heralds, Stardust and the Silver Surfer.
The opposing forces of the Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill play greatly in this issue as both are the sole survivors of their respective races at Galactus’s hands and seeing how they respond to that in different ways leads to some great moments between the two in this issue. Now, in addition to being hunted by Beta Ray Bill, Galactus must deal with the survivors of the I’Than race who now seek vengeance upon Galactus and Stardust. Beta Ray Bill finds the Surfer on a desolate, unpopulated planet where he looks to battle his old friend.
Silver Surfer halts Beta Ray Bill’s attack, now without the power of his Stormbringer hammer after the heinous actions Bill did in the previous issue to get them to leave their planet. Instead of fighting, Surfer explains to Bill the consequences of what could happen if Galactus were to be killed, knowing full well that in the god’s weakened state, Bill could have the power to finish Galactus off. They also know that the I’Than are on their way as well.

Around The Flickcast offices, we’re pretty excited to see James Cameron’s upcoming film Avatar and you probably are also. The innovative technology alone will make it worth the trip and if the rest of the film’s elements like story, characters and performances hold up, it could be a most interesting and enjoyable time at the movies. But apparently, we’re not excited enough because we’re not getting our tickets for the film’s December 18th opening right now.
Yes, that’s right, tickets for midnight showing of Avatar are now on sale at online ticket brokers MovieTickets.com and Fandango for performances at more than 75 AMC locations, most of them Imax 3D venues. According to MovieTickets’ Joel Cohen, this is pretty unusual.
“Tickets being put on sale for a film four months in advance is unheard of,” said Cohen. “The fact that tickets have already been sold really speaks to the tremendous buzz the film has already created and the power of James Cameron at the box office.”
Of course, without knowing the final running time of the movie its pretty much impossible to sell tickets for anything but a midnight show. Still, sales of the midnight tickets were said to be “healthy.” I wonder if this is a start of a new trend? Will we be able to start ordering tickets for other upcoming releases this way? If so, I would like to get a couple tickets to Tron Legacy, Iron Man 2 and Batman 3 please. That way I can be sure they won’t be sold out.

Like some other Marvel characters recently (and characters from across the aisle), is Tony Stark dead? Judging from the cover of Marvel’s upcoming comic Invincible Iron Man #20, it kinda looks that way. Although, he could just be sleeping. . . or passed out drunk, so who knows.
Still, Thor looks positively grief stricken and forlorn, so you never know. Sure, the God of Thunder can be a bit morose and angry at times, but he’s not exactly known for his sensitive side, so the fact that he’s in attendance at Tony Stark’s bedside means that some serious stuff might be happening. I’m sure I’m probably reading a lot into this brand new Patrick Zircher cover but still, its fun to try and guess the storyline given only this clue.
Good news or bad, we’ll find out soon enough when this comic, written by Matt Fraction with art by Salvador Larroca, hits store shelves in November. Until then, let the guessing games continue.
Be sure to click through for a must bigger look at this great cover after the break.

My former colleagues over at Cinematical have an exclusive look at the reported final poster for the CGI-animated adaptation of Astro Boy. You can head over there for a better look at the poster. In the meantime, in case you’re not familiar, Astro Boy, based on the manga and anime franchise of the same name, takes place in the futuristic Metro City. Dr. Tenma, a brilliant scientist, creates a young robot boy in his deceased son’s image.
The robot is, of course, the super powerful Astro Boy. Once alive and kicking, he has to contend with other much more dangerous robots and unfortunately, some not so trustworthy humans as well. The film features the voices of Freddie Highmore as Astro Boy, Kristen Bell as Cora, Nicolas Cage as Dr. Tenma, Bill Nighy as Dr. Elefun and Donald Sutherland as the President.
It should come as no surprise that Freddie Highmore’s Astro Boy is front and center on the poster, closely followed by Kristen Bell’s Cora. Also included in the poster are Dr. Tenma and Dr. Elefun. In addition to the poster, which looks really cool and fun, I also had a chance to see the trailer for the film while watching a movie last weekend. It also made the film look really fun and also made it seem suitable for kids (of all ages) as well.
Astro Boy hits theaters on October 23rd.

Our love for Dollhouse and all-things Whedon has no bounds. We’re big fans of pretty much everything Joss does and followed along through all the trails and tribulations during the Buffy and Angel years, with Firefly and Serenity and now with his latest TV project Dollhouse.
The show has had its ups and downs and it looked for a while that it would not be coming back for a second season at all. Fortunately, it was renewed, although a bit changed from its first season. We’ve spoken to Jane Espenson about the changes for season 2, featured an interview with the man himself and series star Eliza Dushku and now, via the folks at Access Hollywood, we’ve got another video here for you today showcasing more with Eliza about what fans can expect from season 2 of Dollhouse.
In typical cryptic fashion she doesn’t reveal too much more than what we already know such as upcoming guest stars will include Jamie Bamber, Keith Carradine and Angel alum Alexis Denisof. She did say, however, that season two will be shot entirely on HD. Dushku said the change makes the show feel more real and less “science fictiony.”

We’ve been following some of NBC’s new Fall shows pretty closely here at The Flickcast. One of the ones that seems pretty interesting is a hostpital show called Mercy. What makes this one more interesting than the crop of other medical shows out there? Good question. Read on.
Mercy has a couple interesting things going for it. First, its told from the perspective of nurses. And not just any nurses, but a trio of brash, confident and compassionate babes including Iraq war vet Veronica, played by Taylor Schilling, and newcomer Chloe, played by the delightful Michelle Trachtenberg of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Plus, the show is created and exec. produced by Liz Heldens of Friday Night Lights and Gretchen Berg & Aaron Harberts of Pushing Daises, two other quality shows.
Does all this mean Mercy will be a sure-fire hit? Not necessarily. But with all these elemets in place, it sure has a good chance. Mercy premieres on Wednesday, September 23rd at 8/7C. Until then, be sure to check out this latest promo after the jump.

This week, we are on full alert for all things Halloween 2. Yesterday, we hit you with an exclusive interview with the films co-star Sheri Moon Zombie, and today, we’re bringing you even more Michael Myers goodness. After the jump, you can check out three brand new exclusive clips from Rob Zombie’s latest film, featuring the jumpsuit-donning madman himself.
The first clip, which is from the first half of the film, shows Myers in action as he lures two unsuspecting victims into a trap. The second scene is the first we see of Sheri Moon’s character, Deborah Myers, in the sequel. Brace yourselves for this one because she’s a ghost, wearing white, leading a white stallion.
Finally, the third scene is a dream sequence, also starring Sheri. This one gets a little bizarre as well, so be sure to pay close attention to the nuances. Check out the three clips after the jump, and keep it here for all things Halloween 2 this week including our exclusive interview with Rob Zombie and our review of the film itself.
Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 hits theaters this Friday.

J.J. Abrams’ Fringe is one of those television shows we really like here at The Flickcast. Watching the weekly adventures of that eclectic group of people (especially John Noble as Walter) as they try to solve the odd mystery of the week and figure out how it all ties together is a welcome diversion from the more mundane shows offered up by the various networks. Plus, the show is well written, has a great cast and is just plain fun.
And now, those of you who are also fans of the show can join in that fun because ABC has announced a brand new contest in conjunction with the show. Just head on over to this site: www.CompleteThePattern.com for your chance to enter. The grand prize winner will win a trip to Vancouver, BC and a visit to the set of the show to see how they make the magic happen.
The first prize winner will get a hi-def home entertainment system and five second prize winners will receive a copy of the Complete First Season of Fringe on DVD — which hits stores on September 8th. So Fringe fans, head on over to the site and enter for your chance to win. Sadly, as much as we like the show, we can’t enter or win. But if you win, can you take us with you to the set? That would be cool.

Some of these topics include the new director for the BioShock movie, Christopher Nolan’s Inception, the Excalibur reboot, new casting for John Carter of Mars, reaction to James Cameron’s Avatar footage and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
The team also made some new picks this week including Christina’s pick of FX’s series Rescue Me, Matt’s pick of the awesome Batman: Arkham Asylum game and Chris’ pick of the new ABC drama Defying Gravity, starring Ron Livingston and Malik Yoba.
