SDCC10: Eye Popping Teaser Trailer Revealed for ‘Saw 3D’

by Sebastian Suchecki, Jul 24 2010 // 8:15 AM

With the news that we will be witnessing the culmination of the Saw franchise this October, one had to wonder if Saw 3D could really be a worthy cap to the series. From the looks of the new official trailer, Saw 3D will not disappoint.

For all you torture porn lovers out there, this film is shaping up to be the biggest and baddest of them all. The magnitude and complexity of the traps previewed in the trailer, as well as the addition of the 3D component, should bring a satisfying end to the world record setting franchise.

Those of you who have come to depend on the Saw films as their horror fix every Halloween will be disappointed by the trailer’s confirmation that this will in fact be the final film. In the film, Bobby Dagen (Sean Patrick Flannery) is a self help guru and Jigsaw survivor who is sought out by a group of Jigsaw survivors who are seeking his support to help overcome their trauma. Unfortunately, it’s Dagen’s demons that end up unleashing the new round of terror.

The film is set to star Tobin Bell (Saw), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Costas Mandylor (Beowolf) , Betsy Russelly (Saw III) and Sean Patrick Flannery (Boondock Saints).

With Saw ending its reign as the top horror franchise, are there any upcoming or recent horror movies that you the Flickcast readers are hoping to see franchised?

Lionsgate’s Saw 3D is opening in theaters October 29. Check the trailer out after the jump and stay with us for more Saw 3D news as it develops.

SDCC10: The ‘Dexter’ Panel Offers Glimpses of New Season

by Erik Jensen, Jul 24 2010 // 7:00 AM

Ralph Garman from L.A. radio station KROQ 106.7 hosted the official San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Dexter  panel. Ralph got things rolling by showing an exclusive  sneak peek at the second season of its animated webisode series ‘Dexter Early Cuts: Dark Echo,’ to a packed hall.

A video showing gameplay from Dexter ‘the game’ for the iPod and iPad was on tap next, revealing some of the in-game action from the 3D game based on the  Dexter series. But what the audience really wanted to see, was a trailer from the upcoming Dexter Season 5 which begins in September.

The trailer takes us back to the game-changing events of Season 4′s shocking finale. A crying baby; the police arrive with siren’s blaring at Dexter’s suburban house; an image of Rita, Dexter’s wife, resting lifeless in a bathtub full of blood. In front of the officers on the scene, Dexter appears to admit it. He admits he did it. Killed his own wife.

Ponderous, since Dexter’s serial-killing peer, the crafty and lethal ’Trinity Killer,’ played masterfully by John Lithgow, was most certainly responsible. Still, the apparent admission stirs suspicion in those around Dexter, and many begin to question if perhaps there is more to Dexter than meets the eye.

by Shannon Hood, Jul 23 2010 // 2:00 PM

TNT and Dark Horse Comics will be teaming up to produce a comic book and webcomic prequel to the upcoming Falling Skies television series.

Falling Skies is an upcoming series that will be produced by Dreamworks Television, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer.  The TNT series will star Noah Wyle (ER), and involves the aftermath of an alien invasion, with the hopes for  humanity resting  on a few survivors. It will debut in the Summer of 2011.

TNT and Dark Horse are distributing an exclusive, limited edition comic book that tells the back-story of the series during the New York Comic Con in October. Then, starting in November, fans can begin downloading an extending webcomic every two weeks, via iTunes, TNT.tv, or Darkhorse.com.

The comic and webcomic are a novel way to drum up early interest in the series prior to its debut.

In addition to Wyle, the series will star Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation), Drew Roy (Lincoln Heights), Maxim Knight (Brothers and Sisters), Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) and Will Patton (Armageddon.)  Wylie and Bloodgood will be signing autographs at the Dark Horse International booth at the San Diego Comic Con on Friday afternoon.

SDCC10: New Trailer For ‘Red’ Arrives

by Shannon Hood, Jul 23 2010 // 12:15 PM

A brand new trailer for Red, featuring Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, and Mary Louise Parker made its debut at San Diego’s Comic-Con. The film is based on the cult D.C. graphic novels by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer.

It has been branded as  “an explosive action-comedy.” Mirren, Willis, Freeman and Malkovich play a foursome of retired CIA operatives who are now being framed for assassination, because they know too much.  They must band together and use their combined wit and skills to survive.  They also uncover a massive conspiracy.

Red is directed by Robert Schwentke (The Time Traveler’s Wife.) I think it looks like a blast.  Who doesn’t love seeing Helen Mirren toting weapons? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Red is being released by Summit entertainment on October 15. Check out the new trailer after the break.

‘True Blood’ Makes Joe Manganiello Season Four Regular

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 23 2010 // 11:30 AM

It looks like at least one new cast member has already gotten a big benefit from the recent announcement of True Blood’s renewal for a fourth season. According to Deadline, everyone’s favorite new werewolf Alcide — aka actor Joe Manganiello — has been given the word he will become a show regular for the new season.

Originally only supposed to appear in a handful of episodes this season, the actor supposedly so impressed the show’s producers and was embraced by True Blood fans that his role was expanded. Obviously, this is something I’m sure the actor is thrilled about.

With some original cast members supposedly being killed this season, it makes sense that the show’s producers will need fresh, um, blood to fill in. With all the hype these days surrounding vampires and werewolves it makes sense that this character would get the nod.

Who knows, maybe the show is setting up some kind of super love triangle (Or love square?) between Sookie, Bill, Eric and Alcide? If done right, that could prove very interesting indeed.

Maybe we will get some more news during True Blood‘s panel at Comic-Con? If so, we’ll be sure to bring it to you.

SDCC10: Check Out Six Posters of the Girls from ‘Sucker Punch’

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 23 2010 // 10:45 AM

To get things started off right, Warner Bros. has released six character posters for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Sucker Punch. The posters feature Emily Browning as Babydoll, Vanessa Hudgens as Blondie, Abbie Cornish as Sweet Pea, Jamie Chung as Amber, Jena Malone as Rocket and Carla Gugino as Madam Gorski.

This film is set in the 1950s and follows Babydoll who has been confined to a mental institution by her stepfather. He intends to have her lobotomized in five days because he’s not a nice man. In fact, kinda a dick. To hide her from the pain while there, imagines an alternative reality and in that world, begins planning her escape by finding five objects.

In addition to the ladies mentioned above, Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch stars Jon Hamm, Michael Jai White and Scott Glenn. It hits theaters in march of 2011.

Check out larger version of the posters after the jump.

SDCC10: Interview With Comics and TV Writer Jeph Loeb

by Diane Panosian, Jul 23 2010 // 10:00 AM

Though this week’s Comic-Con has plenty of news about upcoming film and TV projects, it’s good to see that the world of comics still has a place at the show. Marvel, DC, and countless other publishers still take time to present upcoming events to their legions of diehard fans, and just about anybody who has anything to do with the comic world is in attendance.

One of those names, who actually crosses over from the world of comics and TV, is Jeph Loeb. Not only has he worked on several episodes of NBC’s Heroes, but he’s also currently the main writer for Marvel’s Ultimate X series.

We got to catch up with Jeph yesterday, and chat him up about his most recent comic favorites, future projects, and even which types of books he prefers to work on. Check out our interview with him after the jump, and stay with us all weekend for more news straight from the floor of San Diego Comic-Con 2010.

SDCC10: The Lucasarts ‘Force Unleashed II’ Panel

by Erik Jensen, Jul 23 2010 // 9:15 AM

The San Diego Comic-Con panel for the upcoming LucasArts sequel to The Force Unleashed opened with some amazing cinematic footage from the game. In the footage previewed to Comic-Con attendees, Vader reveals to Starkiller that he is in fact a clone, produced to Vader’s exact specifications and designed to be the perfect apprentice.

But the news goes from bad to worse, as Vader explains that he is actually a failed clone. Prone to strange and distracting flashbacks and weird memory-holes, Vader declares Starkiller useless and orders him killed. Starkiller of course, has other plans. Using his incredibly powerful force abilities, he breaks free of his bonds, destroys his Stormtrooper captors and proceeds to flee the planet Camino, becoming a fugitive in the process.

The footage from Force Unleashed 2 really set the tone for the big Lucasarts panel revolving around the upcoming sequel to one of the best Star Wars game properties in recent history. A second clip shown at the start of the panel, begins to reveal the back-story to this sequel, showing Starkiller on the run from Vader now, taking his ship and heading for a nearby planet to rescue his friend General Rahm Kota. ‘Unleashed 2′ is revealed to possess a very rich storyline with deep character development as we follow Starkiller on his journey to be reunited with his one true love, Captain Juno Eclipse.

Hit the jump for a preview of the gameplay, some of the new force powers available in the sequel, as well as a very special Comic-Con exclusive reveal of a small, but pivotal character who will appear in the new game.
