The remake of 1978 film I Spit on Your Grave (aka The Day of the Woman) is imminent, and we have a brand new clip to show you. When the original  film was released, it was one of the most audacious films of its time, for many reasons.

The movie was about a woman who was brutally assaulted and raped by a group of men who leave her for dead.  She extracts her revenge on the men by tracking down the men one by one and torturing them in horrific ways.

The violence and brutality of the film was shocking on its own, but this was also considered a feminist film by many.  It was very rare to see women commit such atrocities on film at the time.

In this scene, Jennifer (played by Sarah Butler) encounters her tormentors  for the first time at a gas station.  She was hoping to spend some quiet time in the country to finish a novel, but it looks like her plans get derailed rather quickly.

The film also stars Chad Lindberg, Jeff Branson, Daniel Franzese, Rodney Eastman, and Tracey Walter, and is directed by Steven R. Monroe.

I Spit on Your Grave: Unrated is scheduled to be released on October 8 in limited release, but first it will be making a stop at Fantastic Fest. Since we have some staff members attending the festival in Austin, we’ll be able to give you some early thoughts on the film.  Stay tuned.

OK, so this one on the right isn’t an  image from the set of the new Captain America: The First Avenger film, but it looks pretty close. After the jump, check out some actual shots of Captain America from the set of the new film, courtesy of Screen Rant.

The images show off Chris Evans’ stunt double in his classic World War II Captain America garb, and even wearing a fashionable Captain America bike helmet. You know, for safety.

We all hope the costume doesn’t turn out looking like this for the entirety of the film, because let’s face it, it’s pretty terrible, and looks more like the costume from the 1978 Incredible Hulk TV movie, in which Cap basically wore an Evel Knievel outfit.

The cool part of these pics is that we also get a look at some of the H.Y.D.R.A. technology, in the form of their cool steampunk-like motorcycles. We can only imagine what the rest will look like, and we’ll more than likely get a look as the film finishes up principal photography in London.

Captain America: The First Avenger is set to hit theaters  July 22, 2011, and also stars Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Stanley Tucci, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sebastian Stan. Check out the full set pics after the jump, and let us know what you think below!

The latest release from WWE Studios, Legendary stars WWE star and corporate mascot John Cena alongside Patricia Clarkson, Devon Graye and Danny Glover in the most heartfelt film the company has been a part of. Devon plays the role of Cal Chetley, a target for bullies in his small Oklahoma town, who lives with his mother Sharon (Clarkson).

Against his mother’s wishes, Cal decides to join the high school wrestling team despite his small stature as a way to reconnect with the father he barely knew and the brother Mike (Cena) he has rarely seen in the past ten years. Down on his luck and filled with self-loathing, Mike reluctantly begins to train his brother in the ways that made him a championship wrestler which ultimately helps bridge the gap between the two.

It’s hard to hear the premise of Legendary and not begin to see correlations to Rudy. An undersized kid trying to make it in a sport based on physical superiority and muscle mass that only has his heart helping push him forward. Thankfully, WWE Studios pushed past a story just about high school wrestling and added a layer to Cal Chetley and his new obsession.

As a result, there is a lot of emotion behind everything happening that doesn’t feel like a Rudy ripoff. This young man didn’t always dream of being a high school championship wrestler. He just sees it as a way to connect to a past and a family that is so far away from him.

The relationship between older brother Mike and mother Sharon is also incredibly well done. The few times they are on screen together is incredibly uncomfortable as Sharon appears to be in physical pain from being in front of a son that has chosen to stay out of her life for so many years that she never forgave for something that wasn’t even his fault. The deeply conflicted Mike also has some great scenes when he is apart from his family that show just how much his grief has consumed his life.

There is very little that fan favorite actor Bruce Campbell can do that will get overwhelming disapproval from his legions of fans across the globe. Movies like My Name is Bruce, Army of Darkness, Man With the Screaming Brain, and of course any of the Spider-Man films has solidified Campbell as untouchable in the movie-watching community.

Now, he’s planning on taking that to the next stage, with an upcoming project in which he brings all of our favorite horror movie legends and throws them all in a movie together, a la The Expendables. In a recent interview with the LA Times, names like Kane Hodder and Robert Englund were thrown around, and the hairs on the backs of horror fans everywhere stood on end.

Yeah, “The Expendables,” or more like the “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” of horror. I want to get so many horror movie stars that people can’t possibly not see the movie. I want to give them other stuff to do. I want to have Kane Hodder be very particular about what he eats. I want Robert Englund to be a tough guy, like he knows tae kwon do or something.

I want to find out the hidden sides of all these people. Some will play themselves, some will play alternate characters as well. I may approach Kane Hodder to play Frankenstein. He could be Kane Hodder himself fighting himself as Frankenstein. It could be crazy. It’s a silly concocted story that we hope to do maybe in a year or so.

For such a short week, Google is really on a roll. Yesterday, on Google’s main search property, a strange yet fun and kinetic new Google logo appeared prompting users to wonder exactly what the search giant was up to.

In the recent past, the Google “Doodles” as the company refers to its fun and different company logos, were typically used to celebrate a birthday or an important milestone in history and would always link to search results relevant to the event or at minimum, an official blog post would explain what the company was up to.

However, this time around, only a mysterious tweet from Google’s official Twitter account offered any clue whatsoever.

“Boisterous doodle today. Maybe it’s excited about the week ahead…”

Indeed, and one can only imagine the countless hours of lost productivity as Google Search users reported being captivated by the interactive animated logo that bounced kinetically-charged balls across the screen as the user moused-over the Google logo. A Google rep went on record yesterday with Search Engine Roundtable to explain things a bit further.

“Today’s doodle is not related to a birthday but is fast, fun and interactive, just the way we think search should be.”

Just when you thought Stephen King was becoming slightly less relevant as of late, Universal announced today that it has acquired the rights to Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. They have an agreement for a film trilogy and an NBC series based on King’s critically acclaimed series.

Ron Howard (Apollo 13) has signed on to direct the first film, as well as the first season of the TV show. Also announced as head writer was Akiva Goldsman, best known for writing The Da Vinci Code.

The films and television series will have a wide range of material to pull from as King has written seven novels, short stories and comic books. The Dark Tower has sold more than 30 million copies and has been sold in over 40 countries. After the completion of the original series of seven books, a prequel series of comic books based on one of the characters was also published.

In the story,  Roland Deschain is the last living member of an order known as gunslingers and the last of the line of “Arthur Eld”, his world’s King Arthur. Politically organized along the lines of a feudal society, it shares technological and social characteristics with the American Old West, but is also a world of fantasy and magic. No word on how the story will progress and whether the films and television series will have intertwining linear story lines throughout.

This week on The Flickcast Chris and Matt take on a whole bunch of new topics. Some of these include the box office success and relative merit of movies like The American, Machete and Takers as well as new trailers for films like Let Me In and Hobo with a Shotgun.

They also discussed more Expendables 2 and X-Men 4 rumors, casting news and all manner of other showbiz-related topics. Plus, the boys talked all-things Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Chris and Matt also made some pics this week including Matt’s pick of the game Dead Rising 2: Case Zero and Chris’ pick of the campy yet fun Machete.

Obviously the title leaves much to be desired, but in every other possible way, Anton Chekhov’s The Duel is everything a costume drama should be—filled with stellar acting by winsome British and Irish stars, beautiful costumes and set dressing, gorgeous cinematography and breathtaking scenery—all blue skies, peach-roofed villas and deep, mesmeric, ink blue sea.

Even better, all of these pleasures complement a gripping story propelled by carefully placed moral weights and counterweights. The whole is brilliantly orchestrated by a director who absolutely understands both Chekhov’s subtle wit and deep humanistic sympathies.

And just who is this director? Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I found out it was the same man responsible for the 2001 contemporary Israeli drama Late Marriage, but on consideration it shouldn’t be surprising. Although it was only Kosashvili’s second feature, Late Marriage was remarkable for its deft, uncompromising storytelling, rich depiction of character and relationships, and masterful control of tone—always somewhere between comic and horrifying—qualities it shares with Anton Chekhov’s The Duel, and indeed all of Chekhov.

Furthermore, what seems an unlikely choice of material, given the contemporary Israeli settings of his earlier films, makes a lot of sense when one learns that the Israel-dwelling Kosashvili was actually born in Georgia, on the coast of the Black Sea, exactly the location of this longest of Chekohov’s stories (although the production was actually shot on the Croatian coast).

Thor is obviously going to be even more of a priority character for Marvel in the coming months. As you probably know they’ve got a big screen adaptation of the character coming out so you can be sure we’ll be seeing lots of comics related to the character hitting store shelves as well.

Not saying that’s a bad thing just that it is to be expected. One of these new Thor titles in question is Ultimate Comics Thor #1, which we’ve got a preview of for you today. This new comic comes from the creative team of Jonathan Hickman and Carlos Pacheco and tells the origin story of Ultimate Thor.

According to Marvel this comic will take you “back to the beginning and witness the debut of the Odinson and the Warriors Three as they combat a shadowy threat masterminded by the dreaded Baron Zemo.” Who will prevail? You’ll just have to read the comic to find out. Side note: Does this comic sound a lot like the plot for the upcoming movie? I wonder.

We’ve been talking about NBC’s new show The Event show for quite some time here at The Flickcast. It looks to be a very interesting and compelling show that will hopefully, at least in some way, help ease the pain of not having Lost to watch any longer.

We’ve already brought you a metric ton of previews and even a first impressions of the pilot episode. Now we’ve got even more previews and interviews about the show to share today.

Before the videos, here’s an “offical” synopsis of the show to help set the stage:

The Event is an emotional, high-octane conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), an everyman who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his would-be fiancée Leila (Sarah Roemer), and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.

Sean’s quest will send ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including newly elected U.S. President Elias Martinez (Blair Underwood); Sophia Maguire (Laura Innes), who is the leader of a mysterious group of detainees; and Leila’s shadowy father (Scott Patterson). Their futures are on a collision course in a global conspiracy that could ultimately change the fate of mankind.

It’s a good day when we get a new trailer for a cool comic. Fortunately, today is one of those days.

As in the past with motion comics like Astonishing X-Men and Spider-Woman, we’ve got a new trailer for an upcoming comic to share with you today. This one is from Uncanny X-Force and like the previous ones, this new one looks to be pretty darn cool.

Here’s the scoop on the trailer and the comic’s story directly from Marvel:

With zombies all the rage still along with the upcoming Walking Dead premiere, it’s no surprise about the level of hype Capcom is putting behind the sequel to their XBox 360 blockbuster Dead Rising with the aptly titled Dead Rising 2.

As we talked about in our hands on from Comic Con,  Dead Rising 2 takes everything we loved about the first Dead Rising and kicks it up a notch. The “everything is a weapon” mentality remains along with the mission timers which give players a sense of urgency instead of allowing a total sandbox mode like a Grand Theft Auto title. Instead, every action can mean life or death to a survivor or even Chuck’s infected daughter.

In the first of the four videos below, Chuck’s tale of terror is explained as the developers explain the motivation behind Chuck’s escape from the safe house in fortune city. The second video talks about the game’s creator Keiji Inafune and his focus on character development and how that affected the story of the game and the team working on it. “Tools of Destruction” focuses on the concept of combination weapons and how the action plays out differently than it would in other action adventure and even first person shooters. Finally, the final video talks about the game’s competitive and cooperative multiplayer aspects and how co-op almost didn’t make its way into Dead Rising 2 if not for the community outcry, proof that complaining on internet forums and blogs can make a difference.
