We’ll give you three guesses what will be announced at this event Apple will be holding on October 20th and the first two don’t count. That’s right, if you can’t tell from the obvious animal peeking out from behind the Apple logo what the company’s got up its sleeve, you need to turn in your amateur detective decoder ring.

Having a bit of trouble? Okay, we’ll give you some hints. That animal, it’s a lion. So, that means the next version of OSX will probably be called Lion because, in case you re not aware, Steve Jobs likes cats and all of the version were named after some sort of cat. The most recent, of course, being Snow Leopard.

So, it follows that the next one, aka OS X 10.7,  will be called by a cat name as well. Oh, we can also assume this event will focus quite a bit on the Mac itself, at least judging from the tag line “Back to the Mac.”

Whatever happens, we’ll bring you all the news. In the meantime, let the predictions begin. . .

Ever since The Dark Knight was released, rumors have been circulating about the cast of the unnamed Batman 3 project. From Johnny Depp as The Riddler to Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin, fanboys and film lovers alike have been speculating endlessly about who would take up the mantle as Nolan’s next villian, especially after Heath Ledger’s fantastic performance as The Joker.

While nothing’s confirmed yet and Batman 3 is still very much in the preliminary stages, Ain’t It Cool News has reported that Tom Hardy will play a “lead role” in the next chapter of Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

This news is pretty plausible, because Nolan is known for working with the same cast members over and over again. Hardy is no stranger to Nolan’s films, having played the part of Eames in this summer’s sci-fi thriller Inception. While it’s a little soon to speculate, many are hoping that Hardy has been cast to play Edward Nigma, aka The Riddler, but at this point he really could be playing any part, villain or hero.

You can be sure that if this and any other rumors for Batman 3 are confirmed, you’ll hear about it right here  because we’re honestly just as excited for this movie as you are.

The Flickcast: What do you love most about Smallville fans?

Erica Durance: You know, it’s just neat to see how many people love the show and are so excited about it. Thank God. I know that’s why we’re here 10 years later, or me only since 7. They’re so supportive and so excited and initially they weren’t with me.

So they’ve come around. But in fairness I wasn’t part of the mythology, Lois wasn’t, so that makes sense, so I can understand. It’s a beloved story and I kinda kicked in and invaded it, but they’ve been really, really positive now.

Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned movie by the folks who’ve brought us The Muppets for decades? Well, how about a new-fashioned crime noir story about a series of puppets that get murdered? Still interested? Of course you are. Genre-friendly studio Lionsgate has recently obtained the rights to Happytime Murders, a noir film from the first family of Muppets, the Hensons. From Heat Vision.

“Happytime Murders,” a comedy-thriller written by Todd Berger and to be directed by Brian Henson, son of Jim Henson, has landed at Lionsgate.

The project has been in development at the Jim Henson Co. since October 2008, when it picked up Berger’s script as a spec. Lionsgate’s acquisition gives the risky project — a dark and adult story featuring puppets — a real shot at getting made, with insiders talking of a possible January start, depending on how soon a star can be found for the lead.

The film takes place in a world where both humans and puppets co-habitate the world, much like Greg The Bunny, and a series of murders take place at a local children’s program–you guessed it–The Happytime Gang, and they enlist the help of a disgraced cop turned private investigator with a drinking problem.

At this weekend’s New York Comic Con, I was lucky enough to spend some time with the much-anticipated sequel to Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64. Goldeneye 007 for Wii very much lives up to

Firstly, the new Classic Controller Plus is pretty great to use. While it doesn’t quite replicate the feel of a N64 controller, it feels much easier to manuver than the original Classic Controller, which really helps for Goldeneye 007. Obviously, you won’t want to be fumbling with a controller while you’re trying to come out on top in online multiplayer.

But the control scheme for the game is incredibly intuitive, so if you’re a native of shooting games you’ll pick it up very fast.

This week on The Flickcast, Chris and Matt do things a bit differently as they take the show on the road and record while driving to and from a secret location. Sure, it might be dangerous, but your two favorite hosts are always willing to go the extra mile to entertain and inform.

Some of the topics discussed during this special show include Spider-Man bad guy casting, the Thing prequel, Call of Duty: Black Ops, the new TV season and the state of the comic book industry. The boys also talked about the Banksy Simpsons opening credits, the new Captain America game and other movie franchise video games.

And, as always, picks were made with Matt picking a surprise you will have to listen to the show to find out and Chris’ pick of the terrific TiVo Premiere for all your home DVR needs.

The AFI Fest 2010 (presented by Audi) has just announced its gala screenings, and a tribute to The King’s Men director and cast. The centerpiece galas will include the following films.

Abel directed by Diego Luna.  Synopsis: A strange, alluring fable of a disturbed child attempting to become his own father. Cast includes Christopher Ruíz-Esparza, José María Yazpik, Karina Gidi, Carlos Aragón, Gerardo Ruíz-Esparza, and Geraldine Alejandra.

Barney’s Version directed by Richard J. Lewis. Synopsis: A wise and witty tale of a seemingly ordinary man who lives an extraordinary life. Cast includes Dustin Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Rosamund Pike, Minnie Driver, Rachelle Lefevre, and Scott Speedman.

Blue Valentine directed by Derek Cianfrance. Synopsis: Flooded with romantic memories of their courtship, Dean and Cindy use one night to try and save their failing marriage. Cast includes Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams.

Casino Jack directed by George Hickenlooper. Synopsis: Notorious lobbyist Jack Abramoff finds himself in bed with mafia assassins in this fact-inspired film. Cast includes Kevin Spacey, Barry Pepper, Kelly Preston, Rachelle Lafevre, Jon Lovitz.

The Company Men directed by John Wells. Synopsis: Bobby Walker is living the American dream when corporate downsizing forces him and two co-workers to re-define their lives. Cast includes Ben Affleck, Chris Cooper, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Maria Bello, and Rosemary DeWitt.

A special ensemble tribute to The King’s Speech will also serve as a gala screening. Director Tom Hooper and actors Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush will be in attendance.

We are happy to get previews of upcoming comics, especially when they contain character we really like. This time around Marvel has sent us some cool preview pages for the upcoming Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes comic and we will, of course, share them with you.

Sure, the comic has kinda a long name, but that doesn’t stop it from being pretty darn cool. It’s a companion comic to the new TV series premiering Wednesday, October 20th on Disney XD and tells the story of the greatest super heroes of all time: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk who must join forces to stop an attack by the world’s most evil villains.

Written by Chris Yost, with art by Scott Wegener and Patrick Scherberger, the comic hits store shelves on November 3. In the meantime, click through to check out several preview pages so you can get an idea what it’s all about.

It’s always great when a franchise finally gets a sequel, which is why Donkey Kong Country Returns was one of the most exciting games announced for the Nintendo Wii at this year’s E3. I made my way to Nintendo’s booth at New York Comic Con, where I was able to take DKCR for a spin.

Donkey Kong Country looks great, and it plays great too. Like other Wii games, players can choose to use the Wii-mote and nunchuk, or just hold the Wii-mote sideways as they move Donkey Kong and DK through the side-scrolling levels, collecting bananas and bashing baddies along the way.

I was able to experience the two-player mode of DKCR, which was one of the reasons I was most excited about this game. Multiplayer in DKCR is incredibly fun, especially because either player can contribute as little or as much as they’d like. DK can hop onto Donkey Kong’s back and hurdle bananas at enemies while Donkey Kong runs through the level, or each player can play independently and help eachother complete the level.

This is going to be a great game for kids and adults to play together, because players of all different experience levels can still experience the game fully. Similar to New Super Marios Bros., when players die they are easily brought back to life and can continue

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a fun addition to the Donkey Kong franchise, and a sure hit for both kids and adults alike. The game will be out just in time for the holiday season, since you’ll be able to pick it up on November 21st exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.

As Hollywood secrets go, this one wasn’t really all that well kept. Many people know that Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly in Back to the Future but after five weeks of shooting he just wasn’t working out.

So, in a rather unprecedented move at the time, director Robert Zemekis recast the role with Michael J. Fox and the rest, as they say, was history. Even at the time Zemekis thought Stoltz was a great actor but he just didn’t have the kind of comedic timing the director was looking for.

Now, with the help of the video we have for you today, you can judge for yourself if Zemekis made the right choice. In the video, which comes from the Blu-ray release of the Back to the Future trilogy, you an see Zemekis and Steven Spielberg talking about the decision.

But more importantly, you can see Stolz himself as Marty McFly. Take a look and tell us what you think. The Back to the Future Trilogy hits Blu-ray on October 26th.

At the New York Comic Con, we were lucky enough to get a chance to step in to the closed off Rockstar booth and get exclusive hands on time with Rockstar’s Nick Patterson on the upcoming Undead Nightmare DLC pack for Red Dead Redemption. Now a lot of people have been vocal about the fact they didn’t think zombies belonged in the realistic Red Dead Redemption world. Well luckily for those people, it is a DLC pack that they aren’t required to purchase. For those a little more open minded about the plausibility of zombies coming back to unlife in the old west, Undead Nightmare is their golden ticket.

During our hands on, we got to experience one of the graveyard missions. In this instance, a player must go into a graveyard and set five coffins ablaze. In doing so, the undead awaken from the ground and try to take them down. Much like the classic zombie theme, headshots work best and players can be quickly overrun if not careful. One great addition is the use of the blunderbuss as a weapon that players can shoot looted pieces of the fallen undead with literally explosive results.The DLC pack has great visual additions like a constant fog over the land as well as new skins on the animals roaming the desert.

Some might say that this summer’s biggest and best animated film was Toy Story 3, but I beg to differ. Dreamwork’s How To Train Your Dragon brought so much to the table and surprised me in so many ways.

It pulled at my heartstrings, made me smile so wide it almost hurt, and just left me satisfied. Plus, it’s about dragons. Dragons are awesome.

While Pixar reigns supreme with their countless Oscars and widespread critical acclaim, I really feel that Dreamworks, with films released this summer like How to Train Your Dragon and Despicable Me, are slowly sneaking up on them. Which is why I was very excited to hear that How To Train Your Dragon will be soaring from the big screen to your television.

According to Ain’t It Cool News, Cartoon Network has decided to turn How to Train Your Dragon into a television show. No word yet on whether or not any of the cast members of the film, which include Jay Baruschel, Gerard Butler, and Jonah Hill, will reprise their roles for the television show, or when the show will even be released.

This is certainly exciting news that the universe of How To Train Your Dragon will continue on, both on television and in a film sequel slated for 2013.
