As always, one of our favorite parts of any convention is the sights and NYCC was full of them this year so we had to share them with the Flickcast audience. The level of dedication by the men and women who attend the con every year is staggering.

Some are picture perfect renditions that rival movie quality costumes like the Anakin Skywalker we saw wandering the floor. Others come from careful collection of legitimate television costumes and props like the classic Power Rangers Green Ranger. Still others take their own imagination and run wild with custom Mandalorian battle armor for both human and giant chicken alike to life sized Castle Crashers.

One of the things this gallery sadly doesn’t do justice is give an idea on just how huge NYCC was this year. Though it is yet to overtake the surrounding neighborhood like SDCC does, the New York Comic Con feels every bit as big and as important as its west coast counterpart.

The entire Javitts Center was filled with every major comic company to movie studios and video game publishers in every corner. This year the Flickcast was only able to spend a day on the Con floor but if things keep looking up for NYCC, we may have to tackle this show the same way we do San Diego Comic Con or E3.

One of the most fun things about comic to Comic-Con in San Diego is the amount of people who dress up in their favorite costumes and their favorite character from movies, TV, comics, games, manga or you name it. It’s a highlight of the week to see all the great, and not so great, costumes that people come up with to enhance their Con experience.

To help showcase a few of those people who spent their tame and money to dress up so you and the rest of the attendees could have their day brightened a little bit more, we’ve got the first of our galleries from the show.

In this one we’ve got a mix of general photos, costumes, booths and more. We hope it gives you a feel for what the Con is like.

Expect more coverage of all the festivities and, of course, a lot more pics and video as Comic-Con continues. As they say in Hollywood, we’ll be here all week.

It’s very rare that one can have Back to the Future and almost naked models on the same page. Thanks to Playboy.com (Just like Playboy magazine but with less page turning), you can finally merge those two things in your brain.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the first Back to the Future film, the online adult entertainment stop put together a themed photo shoot about all things BTTF. This includes a half naked She-Marty on a hoverboard, half naked Doc She-Brown hanging from the clocktower, and a whole bunch of half naked women hanging off of a DeLorean.

We can’t decide if this is a brilliant idea, or just bastardizing a timeless franchise. In a world where sexy costumes rule, and even the Raphael of the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles isn’t safe, why can’t there be sexy scenes from Back To the Future?

Sadly, they missed a perfect opportunity to capitalize on the awkward relationship between Marty and Doc Brown around the campfire in BTTF 3. Maybe next time, Playboy.

With Inception hitting theaters next Friday, and expected to be one of the biggest films of the summer, you can believe that Warner Bros. won’t be pulling any punches when it comes to promotion. We’ve already seen some pretty intense trailers, which have made the epic tuba noise a ringtone for thousands of fans. Now, the film is taking to building-sized posters to bend our minds.

Only two new advertisements have been spotted so far. Both in New York City, and both pretty cool. The first shows a flood of water shooting out each of the windows. The second, and arguable the cooler advertisement, shows the side of a building being peeled back to reveal the offices inside.

The film, directed by Dark Knight’s Christopher Nolan, is about the world of dreams, and how fragile each of us can be inside of them. Check out the two full building advertisements after the jump, and be sure to catch Inception in theaters on July 16th.

With every big-budget original idea, there always seems to be another film with a similar plot right behind it. In this case, we’ve got Chris Nolan’s Inception hitting theaters this summer, and now, along the same lines of psychological thriller, we’ve got Matt Damon in The Adjustment Bureau.

Granted, this idea came first in the form of a novel by Philip K. Dick, but it still doesn’t excuse Universal for releasing the film a few months after Inception. In Bureau, Damon plays Senate candidate David Norris who falls in love with the quirky Emily Blunt. They get together, get it on, and Damon is visited by a group of greyhairs in suits who explain that they “control how things work” and his relationship was never supposed to happen.

The film has  elements of The Matrix, Dark City, and Inception, with some potentially great performances from Mad Men and Iron Man 2′s John Slattery and Superman’s Terence Stamp. The film also comes from writer/director George Nolfi who worked with Damon on 2007′s Bourne Ultimatum, so there’s a little bit of history too.

One thing I can’t get enough of are comic book conventions. I started attending eight years ago and haven’t looked back. If  you’ve never been (and are at all interested in comics) I encourage you to check out at least one if it’s within a reasonable distance.  I promise, you won’t experience anything like it as they have an energy all their own.

This passed weekend Wizard World delivered their comic convention to Toronto, Canada.  It was an inaugural event here in Canada but there were no shortage of attendees. While the list of guests was not as huge as I would have liked, there were some interesting names.  Firefly’s Jewel Staite, Battlestar Galactica’s Kandyse McClure and Luciana Carro, Buck Roger’s Gil Gerard and Erin Gray, and Caprica’s own Magda Apanowicz.

A couple very notable appearances were made by Bob Clark, The legendary Gorn Captain from Star Trek and a personal favorite Doug Jones, best known for his portrayal of The Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Jones, well known for his very articulate portrayal of movement in the roles he takes on also played Abe Sapien in both Hellboy movies.

Inundated by a flurry of commercials blasting the latest nerd boy fantasy, She’s Out of Your League, I’m reminded of another story about an awkward boy and a stunning, but much sharper girl. In this story a nerd manages to sweep the woman of his dreams off her feet, but not without a lot of effort and some spiffy tights.

This betty mischievously quips with her small-town colleague and brazenly flirts with the hottest jock in the universe. This woman is Lois Lane.

The dorky boy gets the girl films are just as abundant as the beautiful, yet clumsy girl who gets her knight in shiny armor tales. They’re just fairytales dressed up for adults with a bunch of sex-talk for the guys and thinly veiled attraction in the form of snippy repartee for the ladies. How do you make two lovers out of enemies? Watch The Bounty Hunter, 10 Things I Hate About You, You‘ve Got Mail, or pretty much any movie with Meg Ryan in it.

Lois and Clark’s relationship is fascinating because it’s a mix of both of these fairytales. Clark is a straight arrow boy scout if there ever was one and Lois doesn’t mind bending the rules at her leisure. They quip constantly on the sidelines, but run plays seamlessly during the big game. Over time these bff’s have flown over their stereotypical scenario to become a team to be reckoned with.

After doing some investigative work, I found Lois was a combination of several women. In turns out Jerry Siegel wishes he had the super powers needed to impress a girl he crushed on in high school, Joe Shuster fell for the model he based Lois‘ look on, and Siegel based Lois’ personality on Torchy Blane, a reporter from 30‘s flicks. Lois might have come out of a nerdy fantasy, but this doll wasn’t just another Top Model.

She’s a Hepburn who gleefully spars with Tracy, Clark, Perry, Jimmy, Lex, or whoever else might be in the bullpen. These creators were ahead of their time in crafting a woman who wasn’t a secretary (cough…Diana Prince…cough) and instead was Clark’s equal in and out of the office.

Lois doesn’t have the benefit of donning a mask when unearthing villainous plots, and yet she’s fearless. She’s not just a love interest, she’s a woman on a mission to bring truth and justice to the world by using the mighty pen.

Today, the Apple Store went down, as it often does, and amid speculation that new core i5 and i7 MacBook Pros would be announced, when the store came back Apple instead dropped a comprehensive update of Aperture, its flagship image editing software, on us. The latest version, cleverly dubbed Aperture 3, brings many of the features users love from iPhoto ’09 and adds them to Aperture’s new, improved software set and tools.

According to Apple, the latest version of Aperture includes over 200 new features such as:

• Organization using Faces and Places
• Brand new Brushes that let you paint effects on images,
• Full 64-bit support for Snow Leopard
• Improved image adjustments with more “fine tuning”
• Facebook and Flickr uploading

Apple has a free 30-day trial or you can buy the latest version for U.S. $199.00, and upgrades are available for any existing Aperture users for U.S. $99.00.
