Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis Cast In Wachowski Sci-Fi Film ‘Jupiter Ascending’

by Sebastian Suchecki, Mar 27 2012 // 8:30 AM

Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis have been offered the lead roles in the Lana and Andy Wachowki directed Jupiter Ascending. The Warner Bros project’s plot has been kept under tight wraps.

This is the first major science fiction film franchise that the Wachowkis have been involved in since The Matrix. Just like The Matrix trilogy, Jupiter Ascending is an original creation by the duo.

Channing Tatum is becoming a formidable leading man, particularly with his back-to-back box office successes The Vow and 21 Jump Street. Mila Kunis is also a strong draw as she is coming off of Black Swan and Friends With Benefits. She is also set to star in two much anticipated films in the Seth MacFarlane directed comedy Ted and  the Sam Raimi directed Oz: The Great And Powerful.

The Wachowskis have just finished production of the film Cloud Atlas. The Wachowskis hadn’t directed a film since the craptastic 2008 film Speed Racer. The duo were trying to find financiers for a different film script last spring. It was for a hard-R drama they wanted to direct about a gay relationship between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi. Unfortunately for them, they had no luck finding the funding. There is speculation that the Wachowskis are doing this project for the purpose of funding this other project.

The Wachowskis are using the billions of dollars that the Matrix trilogy pulled in to get Warner Bros excited about this new project . The film is on track to start production later this year.

Box Office Report: ’21 Jump Street’ Hauls In A Victory Over The Strong Holding ‘Lorax’

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Mar 19 2012 // 7:30 AM

There is some good, some awesome, some sad and some well excepted news in this weeks box office results.

Coming in at number one for the weekend, 21 Jump Street makes a splash with $35 million, and it’s very good news. To see a successful TV adaptation that proves you can be R-rated, have a completely unexpected tone and still work is a wonderful trend starter for the industry.

Hollywood is a copy cat industry and if remakes and reboots have to happen, the only way you can maintain some artistic credibly is to bring something fresh to the table. Hopefully this success can grease the wheels with other creative folks and deliver something unexpected with these name brands. It will be interesting to see how the zany Dark Shadows is received in the wake of this win.

The well expected news comes in the form of our second place finisher, The Lorax. This Suess adaptation is performing well above initial expectations and is proving to have strong legs as it fell another soft 40ish percent to nearly $23 million. The Lorax will take a hit next week, but is well on it’s way to crossing the $200 million bar.

Box Office Report: ‘The Vow’ Pulls Your Heartstrings And Steals Top Spot

by Matt Raub, Feb 13 2012 // 7:30 AM

With Valentine’s Day hitting on Tuesday, it only makes sense that the box office would reflect that feeling of love we’re smelling in the air. It looks like guys and gals together made sure Valentine’s Day won the weekend, as Screen Gems’ The Vow starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams managed to take the weekend with an estimated $41 Million.

In a very close second, the Denzel Washington vs. Ryan Reynolds flick Safe House brought in an estimated $39 Million, which wouldn’t be bad if the film’s budget wasn’t a total of $85 Million. Right behind that one was another financial conundrum, Dwayne Johnson’s Journey 2, which cost about $80 Million and only only netted $27 Million here in the states.

Two New Preview Clips for Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’ Arrive

by Joe Gillis, Jan 19 2012 // 1:30 PM

When it comes to action movies, the name Steven Soderbergh may not come to mind first. He’s not really known as an “action director” but after watching his latest film Haywire, that title may just end up being his.

If you’re not familiar with Haywire, here’s some info about it:

Mallory Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive.

Using her black-ops military training, she devises an ingenious—and dangerous—trap. But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she’ll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary.

The film opens tomorrow but to get you ready, we’ve got two new clips from it to share with you today. Both of these clips are scenes from the film and help demonstrate just what we’re talking about where Soderberg’s new title is concerned.

Haywire features MMA superstar Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor and Channing Tatum. Check out both of the scenes after the jump.

First Trailer for ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ Arrives. With The Rock? And Bruce Willis?

by Matt Raub, Dec 13 2011 // 7:30 AM

We like to stay on our A-Game when it comes to new films hitting theaters and what to expect from studios on a regular basis. Then a trailer for a film like G.I. Joe: Retaliation hits the web and completely takes us by surprise.

The film picks up the hints from the first film, in which Zartan infiltrates the White House. Remember that? Neither do we. It seems that Paramount, however, does. Here’s the premise to the new film.

Little has been revealed about the plot other than that it will feature the G.I. Joe Team coming into a conflict with Zartan, Storm Shadow and Firefly. Zartan (who is last seen in disguise as the President of the United States) has now got the world leaders all under his thumb, warheads headed towards innocent populaces, and some new heavies on the payroll to keep G.I. Joe at bay.

This time around, we’re getting some new old characters to join the fight, such as Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, Ray Stevenson as Firefly, and Adrienne Palicki as Lady Jaye. Oh, did we mention that Bruce Willis shows up as John Colton? Yea, we’re as confused as you are.

Take a look at the trailer after the jump, and catch the film in theaters on June 29th.

Chris Miller & Phil Lord’s ’21 Jump Street’ Reboot Gets a Trailer

by Sebastian Suchecki, Nov 3 2011 // 7:30 AM

That’s right, this film should be known as being from the mind of Chris Miller and Phil Lord. The team that brought us Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and MTV’s short-lived animated series Clone High.

One could say that the film’s focus points are Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, but if you look at their track record lately, I’d be much more open to see a movie by Lord & Miller than the guys that starred in G.I. Joe and Get Him to the Greek.

The film is obviously a reboot of the classic 80s cop drama starring Johnny Depp and Richard Grieco, about two beat cops that have to go undercover in a local high school to take down the drug lords poisoning our youth.

The red band trailer is here now with tons of swearing and teen endangerment, so fun for the whole family! Check it out after the jump, and catch 21 Jump Street in theaters March 16th.

Adrianne Palicki Joins ‘G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes’

by Joe Gillis, Jul 1 2011 // 11:30 AM

Since her Wonder Woman TV series didn’t get picked up by NBC, it would appear the lovely Adrianne Palicki is available. No, not that kind of avilable. Sorry nerds. As if you’d have a chance anyway.

Instead, she’s available for more work and has reportendly signed on as the female lead in the upcoming G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes. Palicki will take on the role of Lady Jane in the film, which already features Channing Tatum and Dwayne Johnson, who’s set to play Roadblock.

In other casting news for the sequel, Ray Park is expected back as Snake Eyes and Byung Hun-lee is expected back as Storm Shadow. The RZA has also recently joined the film in an as yet unknown role. The other major role still to be cast is that of Joe Colton, the original G.I. Joe.

Rumor has it that the studios is looking at Bruce Willis for that part, which is an obvious choice. He’ll do fine but perhaps there’s other actors that would work just as well? We’ll see and we’ll let you know as soon as we know.

Review: ‘The Dilemma’

by Grace Suh, Jan 14 2011 // 7:30 AM

It’s the cycle of nature. Every year, the studios serve their finest for the holidays, projects chock full of high tone and blue chip casts. This year there was the usual deluxe assortment: literary adaptation (True Grit), drug addiction (The Fighter), madness and artistry (Black Swan), and physical disability, historical drama and royalty (The King’s Speech).

Then comes January. The good stuff runs out and they bring out the cheap wine, hoping we’re too drunk to notice. So we get the likes of Country Strong, Season of the Witch, The Green Hornet and The Dilemma.

Starring the peculiarly charmless Vince Vaughn as Ronny and Kevin James (The King of Queens) as Nick, his purported bosom buddy/business partner/mechanical genius (more on that later), The Dilemma also features as Jennifer Connelly (Beth) and Winona Ryder (Geneva) as their respective love interests, both actresses dark-haired, kohl-rimmed, wraith-thin and hard-faced.

Of course it’s totally preposterous that either woman would ever go out with the likes of Vaughn or James, and pigs will scrapbook before we see the likes of Jude Law movie-dating the likes of America Ferrara (the only female star under 50 who comes to mind who’s remotely overweight). But hey, that’s the glorious misogynistic magic of Hollywood.

Channing Tatum is A Roman Soldier In a New Trailer for ‘The Eagle’

by Matt Raub, Nov 11 2010 // 8:00 AM

Many people believe Channing Tatum is a one-trick pony. To the contrary, the man has plenty of range. We’ve seen him as a soldier leading the fight against villainous terrorists, a soldier who carries his love through letters with Amanda Seyfried and a relieved soldier who is sent back into duty. Now, we’re getting something totally different as Tatum stars as a soldier on a mission to fight his father….in Ancient Rome.

A story like this is pretty epic, so we won’t take anything away from the official synopsis.

In 140 AD, two men – master and slave – venture beyond the edge of the known world on a dangerous and obsessive quest that will push them beyond the boundaries of loyalty and betrayal, friendship and hatred, deceit and heroism…The Roman epic adventure THE EAGLE stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell and is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald. 20 years earlier, Rome’s 5,000-strong Ninth Legion, under the command of Flavius Aquila, marched north carrying their treasured golden Eagle emblem.

They never returned; Legion and Eagle simply vanished into the mists. Hearing a rumor that the Eagle has been seen in a tribal temple in the far north, Flavius’ son Marcus (Tatum), determined to restore the tarnished reputation of his father, is galvanized into action. Accompanied only by his slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out into the vast and dangerous highlands of Scotland – to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father’s memory, and retrieve the hallowed Eagle.

Along the way Marcus realizes that the mystery of his father’s disappearance may well be linked to the secret of his own slave’s identity and loyalty – a secret all the more pressing when the two come face-to-face with the warriors of the fearsome Seal Prince (Tahar Rahim).

Plus side? Donald Sutherland. Check out the full trailer for the film after the jump and catch The Eagle in theaters on February 5.

New Trailer for Ron Howard’s ‘The Dilemma’ Hits the Web

by Chris Ullrich, Sep 21 2010 // 11:30 AM

To be honest, we don’t know a lot about director Ron Howard’s latest film The Dilemma. Sure, it stars Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Jennifer Connelly and Winona Ryder and looks to be pretty funny, but you just never know.

Fortunately, to help decide if this one’s worth a look we’ve got a brand new trailer for the film to share with you (and us) today. In it, Vaughn’s character discovers that his best friend (James) doesn’t really have the perfect marriage after all when he sees the man’s wife with someone else. Yes, that someone else is tanned and tattooed Channing Tatum. But hey, what are you gonna do?

Actually, that’s the question that plagues Vaughn in the film: What is he going to do? Does he tell his friend or let it go? Quite a dilemma. See what I did there?

The Dilemma is scheduled to hit theaters in January 2011. Check out the trailer after the jump.
