X10: ‘Crackdown 2′ Screenshots

by John Carle, Feb 19 2010 // 8:00 AM

With all the info we got from X10, we can’t forget the new screenshots for Ruffian Games’ sci-fi sandbox shooter Crackdown 2. Without even looking at the added hype Crackdown received due to the inclusion of the Halo 3 multiplayer beta, the game was a critical and commercial success.

Now, taking lessons learned from the first game and kicking up the superhero-esque themes to the next level, Crackdown 2 looks ready to emerge as one of the top XBox 360 exclusives of 2010. Now featuring zombie freaks as opposed to the relatively “normal” enemies of the last game, the Agency needed to turn up the juice with some new weapons, armor and vehicles.

Dune buggies with added turrets, overcharged gauntlets for hand to hand combat and even a fully armed helicopter now help protect the streets of Crackdown 2. Take a look at some of the screens just released from X10 and of course stay tuned right here for more coverage of Crackdown 2.

Spike Video Game Awards Trailer Roundup

by John Carle, Dec 15 2009 // 9:00 AM

VGA World Premiere Graphic

This past weekend, Spike gave its annual salute to the video game world with their Video Game Awards show. Featuring performers such as Stevie Wonder and Snoop Dogg, the show has grown in to a larger spectacle each year to award the best in the video game industry. Along with all that hype has come exclusive trailers for the biggest premieres in the video game industry.

Some we knew were coming like the prequel to the Halo trilogy with Halo: Reach’s first in game footage while others were merely rumored and mired in PR confusion like Green Day: Rock Band.

Even more exciting were the surprise announcements like that of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 which had predecessors that dominated the video game charts of the past year. Take a look below at all of the trailers and let us know which ones get you most excited.

We already are placing our bets over in the Flickcast offices about which games are going to make the biggest splash in 2010. Take a look at some of our favorite trailers after the jump.

E3 2009: Microsoft Announces New Games, Tech Advances, More

by John Carle, Jun 1 2009 // 4:26 PM

e3_logo_mediumIn the eyes of many, Microsoft knew they were the underdogs going in to E3′s press conferences this year as it had barely any top titles set to come out the rest of the year. But today, they came out with all guns blazing, being the first to show footage, trailers and song announcements for Beatles: Rock Band. To be released on 9.9.09, Beatles: Rock Band features a uniquely animated visual take on the Beatles entire career and musical catalog, starting off in their simple black and white suits to the psychedelic color explosion of their later years.

Of the 45 songs coming with the game, 10 were announced: “I Saw Her Standing There”, “I Want to Hold Your Hand”, “I Feel Fine”, “Day Tripper”, “Taxman”, “I Am the Walrus”, “Back in the U.S.S.R.”, “Octopus’ Garden”, “Here Comes the Sun”, and “Get Back”. In addition, the entire Abbey Road album will be released as downloadable content as will “All You Need is Love” which will give a donation based on sales to the charity Doctors Without Borders. Making sure to have E3 be the top spectacle of the industry, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison were welcomed to the stage before the first major celebrities of the event, Paul McCartney and Ringo Star.

Both men seemed excited to be there and about the game, despite Paul joking that they couldn’t actually play it themselves. Also for the Beatles: Rock Band demonstration, a Rock Band team played “I Want to Hold Your Hand” on stage using a Beatles: Rock Band kit including a drum set with cymbals and a bad ass looking Bass.
