While DC is currently scratching their collective heads to figure out how to beat out Marvel Studios and their plan for world domination, they’ve had a few busts of recent history. Films like Green Lantern and Jonah Hex were pretty big flops, but nowhere near as much as the critically panned reboot/sequel hybrid Superman Returns from X-Men director Bryan Singer.

The film was panned by most fans, made some money, and did absolutely nothing for the franchise (unless you consider calling for yet another reboot a few years later “progress”). After a few years, it turns out there are still a few secrets that have yet to be uncovered about the film.

As it turns out, there was a $10 million opening sequence for the film that was shot and rendered in which Routh’s Kal-El returns to a dead Krypton to see if there is any semblance of life from his once lively home planet. Short answer: there isn’t.

No dialogue, lots of slow shots of deep space, and Routh looking all sweaty. Overall, it’s probably a good thing this scene wasn’t in the film, but the fact that Singer and his team once thought this was a good idea should remind us that this film was probably no good from the get-go.

Feel like Iron Man 2 was lacking in the alcoholic subplot that Tony Stark went through in the comics? Well, it looks like the original scribe of the film felt so as well, as we’re getting to see the original opening of the film for the first time.

Set to be attached to next week’s DVD and Blu-Ray release of the film, the opening focuses way less on Rourke’s backstory, and way more on the relationship between Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts.

The scene also includes the iconic Pepper/Helmet kiss that we saw in all of the trailers, but never made the final cut.

They may have beaten the alcoholic subplot, but it looks like this deleted scene had more of the witty comedy that made the first film so good. More deleted scenes are expected to roll out as we draw closer to the release of Iron Man 2 on DVD and Blu-Ray next Tuesday.

With Zombieland hitting DVD shelves across the country on tuesday, we thought it was only appropriate to share with you some of the cool features from the DVD and Blu-Ray release. We’ll be bringing you some cool bonus material from the release all week, but of course the most important material to any DVD: the deleted scenes.

With the film making over 3 times their production budget, and the film’s writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, getting picked up for such films as Deadpool and GI Joe 2, you can believe that the DVD will be as hot as the theatrical release. After the jump, we’ve got two brand new deleted scenes from the movie, including another rule to surviving the zombie apocalypse that never made the final cut, and an extended scene from the grocery store.
