The Fast and the Furious franchise has recently risen from the grave and reinvented itself as a pretty great action franchise. The success of Fast Five has given the filmmakers the conifdence to ramp up the scope and size of the next film. So much so that it looks like it might end up being two films.
The Hollywood Reporter recently talked to series star Vin Diesel who had this to say:
“A coda at the end of [Fast Five] teases the return of a character played by Eva Mendes last seen in 2 Fast 2 Furious as well as the return of Michelle Rodriguez.vWe have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages,” Diesel explained. “The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’”
Diesel did not reveal details on whether the two movies would be two-parters or two standalone movies.” The Fast movies are always a lot of fun and you can tell with the last installment that the film makers were enjoying playing with the universe they created.
The next film or films in the franchise are going to be highly anticipated and the franchise is healthier now then it has ever been.

You might have expected this considering her husband, Len Wiseman, is the director. However, news has come out that Kate Beckinsale has been offered one of the lead female roles opposite Colin Farrell in the Sony Pictures remake/reboot of Total Recall.
According to the report, Beckensale would play Lori, the role made famous by Sharon Stone in the original. In that film, Lori is the happy wife of Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger ) who, after Quaid begins to discover things are not what they seem, changes into someone who tries to kill him.
The other main female role of Melina (played in the original by Rachel Ticotin) is also reportedly still up for grabs with Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson as the apparent front runners. Of those two I think I would prefer Dawson, although Mendes wouldn’t be a bad choice either.
In case you’re not familiar with the story of the original Total Recall film, it’s based on Philip K. Dick’s story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” and centers on Quaid, a seemingly unsophisticated construction worker, who is haunted by a recurring dream of going to Mars.
He buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. It turns out he is a freedom fighter from Mars who has been relocated to Earth, and he must restore order, and reverse the corrupt influence that commercial powers had over the red planet.
We don’t know if the new film will follow that storyline as well but you can imagine it will be similar. Look for the new, improved Total Recall to hit theaters in August of 2012.

Last week, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd’s newest film, Dinner for Schmucks opened across the nation, and immediately won the title of “funniest film of 2010″ by many critics. While that may be true, that title may be trumped this Friday, as Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg star in The Other Guys.
The film is sort of a mock buddy cop film, with plenty of genre satires along the way. Not only will we get the always adlibbing Ferrell, but Wahlberg, Sam Jackson, Duane Johnson, Michael Keaton, and Eva Mendes fill out the cast.
Not only is this a Ferrell comedy, but his long-term partner Adam McKay, who wrote and directed Anchorman, Step Brothers and Taladega Nights, and also co-created FunnyOrDie.com with Ferrell is stepping behind the camera once again.
If you don’t know much about the film (or even if you do) we’ve got a bit of a treat for you. After the jump, check out four brand new clips from the film, showing off some of the on-screen chemistry of the leading team.
Be sure to catch The Other Guys in theaters everywhere this Friday, August 8th.

When Eva Mendes, Will Farrell, Adam McKay and Mark Wahlberg sit down for an interview, you can expect results to be anything but ordinary. Based on the camaraderie that was clearly present during a recent Q&A during SDCC, fans of the upcoming movie can expect a good time when the movie premiers later this summer.
Since this movie stars Will Farrell, one of the most obvious questions would be how much of the script was actually written, and how much was McKay allowing his actors to ad-lib and run with it. It turns out, McKay is so well prepared for this, he brings in a professional.
“For our bond company, we actually have to give them the exact percentages,” explained McKay. “So we brought in an actuary to break it down and this movie was 14.3789% was improvised and then the rest was scripted.”
A quick thinking Farrell noted, “that would be 86-85% scripted, if you round up.”
“It’s about 15-20% that is improvised, because we goof around in the scenes,” said McKay. “But the overall story structure obviously stays the same.”
Being a Buddy-Cop flick, comedic timing and approach are in the cards for both actors. Since Wahlberg isn’t a name that immediately springs to mind when you think summer comedy, how much did he end up learning from Farrell in the course of filming the movie?

Not many people are fans of Nicolas Cage. It could be that his hair is a bird, or that he has been known for many poor film choices like Wicker Man, Next, Knowing, Bangkok Dangerous, World Trade Center or Ghost Rider. The trailer for his newest film, however, doesn’t look half bad — even if it is a remake.
Bad Lieutenant is a remake of the 1992 film starring Harvey Keitel about a cop who walks the line of moral and amoral, drinking and gambling along the way. The idea may feel a bit beaten to death for anybody who watched all 6 seasons of FX’s The Shield, but director Werner Herzog is pushing through regardless.
The script was adapted (or copy-and-pasted) by a veteran of the world of police drama, William Finkelstein, who’s writing credits date all the way back to 1990 with Cop Rock. This remake also changes the settings from New York City to a post-Katrina New Orleans, which opens itself up to a series of outdated references and plot points.
Joining Cage in the remake is Val Kilmer, Eva Mendes, Jennifer Coolidge, and Brad Dourif. Catch Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans in limited theaters in November. Until then, check out the first full trailer after the jump.

Nobody seems to know if this trailer is “official” or not or even if its supposed to be released online. Until the men in dark suits and earpieces break down the door of The Flickcast offices, we’re gonna bring you this trailer featuring Nicholas Cage in Werner Hertzog’s remake/sequel to Abel Ferrara’s Bad Lieutenant known as Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.
The original film featured Harvey Keitel in what can only be described a an “interesting” performance. And while I’m still not sure if this new film will be able to match the insanity of Ferrara’s original, it sure seems like its going to try in a whirlwind of guns, cocaine and women. This time around, Cage’s “Bad Lieutenant” character is not so concerned with the raping of nuns while in a church but instead, he’s tasked with trying to track down a homicide witness — all while having what can only be described as some serious personal issues.
Adding to the exciting mix is the reunion between Cage and his Ghost Rider co-star Eva Mendes, which is sure to ignite the screen much as it did before. Can you tell I’m slightly skeptical if this is gonna work? We’ll know for sure when the film hits theaters, complete with Cage’s other co-stars val Kilmer and Fariuza Balk, on December 2nd.
Meantime, check out the trailer, courtesy of the fine folks at Collider, after the jump.
