Daft Punk Gets a Cameo In A New Clip From ‘Tron: Legacy’

by Matt Raub, Dec 8 2010 // 8:00 AM

While the 3D element, amazing digital effects, and Jeff Bridges are all great reasons to see Tron: Legacy in theaters this month, one easily overlooked bonus is the excellent original score done by the Electronica group Daft Punk.

The group managed to combine some great digital elements with classic gaming sounds for a full (2 CD) album that would blow away most film composers today. Not only is the 2-disc album currently out and doing well, but the musical duo even has a cameo in the film as-yes-digital DJ’s.

In this new clip from the film, we get the very first meeting between our protagonist Sam Flynn and one of our digital baddies, Castor. Pay close attention to see if you can catch Daft Punk in their very first film role.

Click through to see the clip and catch Tron: Legacy in both 3D and 2D theaters on December 17th.

See Where Those Cool Clothes Come From In A New ‘TRON: Legacy’ Clip

by Matt Raub, Dec 1 2010 // 11:30 AM

Although the light cycles and identity discs are pretty cool, by far the coolest visual aspect to both TRON and the upcoming TRON: Legacy is the skintight light suits that all of the characters in the game grid sport. One question has always arrisen though: where do those wonderful suits come from?

Do they manifest the moment a player enters the game, or is there a gigantic TRON Gap store that players have to go through to pick them up? Well, in this new clip we finally get that mystery revealed.

In the film, Sam Flynn, son of the famed game creator Kevin Flynn gets transported into the game where he embarks on a journey to save his trapped father.

After the jump, check out a clip from TRON: Legacy in which the game sirens dress Sam in the traditional light suit and get him ready for his very first game. Be sure to catch TRON: Legacy in theaters on December 17th.

New ‘Tron Legacy’ Trailer Arrives

by Chris Ullrich, Nov 9 2010 // 1:00 PM

Just in time for a Tuesday comes the latest trailer for Disney’s highly anticipated sequel Tron Legacy. I say “highly anticipated” but in truth, it may only be the geeks and fans of the original movie who respond to this new one. But really, that’s just fine with me.

In case you haven’t been watching TV, reading a comic book or on the Internet prior to today, the new film picks up almost 28 years after the events of 1982′s original. Jeff Bridge’s Kevin Flynn has gone missing and it’s up to his son, Sam (Garrett Hedlund), to get to the bottom of the mystery. Mix this story with some very impressive visuals of the game grid and more plus Olivia Wilde in a skin-tight outfit, and you’ve got yourself a film.

How good a film remains to be seen. However, with this new trailer added to the mix it’s definitely looking better and better. Check out all the trailerery goodness after the jump. And no, the above picture doesn’t really have that much to do with this trailer, it just looks good.

Tron Legacy fills us with a sense of wonder and awe starting on December 17.

Get Your First Extended Peek At ‘TRON: LEGACY’ With a Full Clip

by Matt Raub, Nov 4 2010 // 9:00 AM

It’s looking like this holiday season will be stacked up with tons of cinematic treats for adults this year, rather than in previous years when it’s been geared toward families. While comedies like Yogi Bear, Little Fockers and Gulliver’s Travels will most likely flop, films like True Grit and Tron: Legacy will definitely be enough to make this a Hollywood Christmas.

Not counting a few trailers, we haven’t gotten to see much of the upcoming Tron sequel. Daft Punk released a music video that gave us a bit more of the 100% computer-generated TRON world. Now we’re finally getting something with human actors as a scene with Jeff Bridges and Garrett Hedlund, the on-screen father and son of the Flynn’s, has hit the web.

The film picks up almost 28 years after the events of 1982′s original film. Jeff Bridge’s Kevin Flynn has gone missing and it’s up to his son, Sam, to get to the bottom of the mystery. Mix this story with a bunch of amazing visual shots of the game grid and Olivia Wilde in a skin-tight Tron suit, and you’ve got yourself a film.

Check out this new scene after the jump. Be sure to catch TRON: LEGACY in theaters, IMAX, and Disney 3D everywhere on December 17th.

Get A Closer Look At The World of ‘TRON: Legacy’ With Daft Punk’s New Music Video

by Matt Raub, Oct 27 2010 // 7:00 AM

While Kanye may be off producing 30 minute super music videos that don’t make any sense, the band Daft Punk is actually doing an incredible service to the world of geek by producing their newest music video for the song Derezzed completely in the world of TRON: Legacy.

The electronica band is doing all of the music for the film (yes, just like Queen did for Flash Gordon) and if the rest of the songs on the album are anything like this one, you can expect some intense score for the rest of the film.

This new music video gives us some great new shots of the TRON world, including suiting up in the infamous suit, having a light disc battle, and even racing along the endless field of circuits.

Check out the music video after the jump, and be sure to catch TRON: Legacy in theaters in both 3D and IMAX this Christmas.

Full Trailer For ‘True Grit’ Gives Us The Good Stuff

by Matt Raub, Oct 5 2010 // 9:00 AM

As if we weren’t excited enough when the first trailer for the Coen Brothers’ upcoming remake of True Grit hit last week, a brand new, full-feature trailer has hit the web, and not only does it have more Jeff Bridges as US Marshall Reuben “Rooster” Cogburn, but a killer Johnny Cash tune, and even some kind of man-bear riding a horse.

The film comes from Ethan and Joel Coen, who made their stamp on visually stunning Western-style dramas with No Country For Old Men. The cast is rounded out enough with Bridges leading the charge, filling in the shoes of John Wayne, while Matt Damon and Josh Brolin fill out the supporting cast.

Between this film and his upcoming dual roles in Tron Legacy, it looks like the next year will be pretty big for Jeff Bridges, and could bring him another Oscar for True Grit.

Check out the full trailer for the film after the jump, and catch it in it’s full Western glory in theaters on Christmas Day.

New Trailer for ‘True Grit’ Hits the Web

by Chris Ullrich, Sep 28 2010 // 7:00 AM

Way back in February we brought you some casting news about the Coen Brothers remake of the John Wayne classic western True Grit. And now, thanks to the magic of the Interwebs, we can bring you the first teaser trailer for the film.

With a cast that includes Matt Damon as La Beouf, Josh Brolin as killer Tom Chaney and Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn (the role made famous by Wayne) the trailer brings us a bit of the flavor of the film and brings to light the fact that this film is going to be pretty amazing. The original film, based on a 1968 novel by author Charles Portis, starred Wayne in a role so popular it earned him his only Oscar.

In case you’re not familiar with the story, it concerns 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross who sets out to capture her father’s killer. To help, she hires tough yet abrasive U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn, a man with “true grit.” Over Cogburn’s objections, Maddie accompanies him on the quest and they are joined by another Marshall, La Beouf, who wants Chaney for his own reasons.

True Grit hits theaters on December 25th. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Get Your First Look at Disney’s ‘Tron: Betrayal!’ Graphic Novel

by Joe Gillis, Sep 14 2010 // 11:00 AM

With Disney’s acquisition of Marvel it was likely we would see comics coming from the publisher that are traditional Disney titles or movie tie-ins. An example of this is the upcoming prequel graphic novel for Disney’s Tron: Legacy film called Tron: Betrayal!

Here’s all the scoop on this graphic novel from our friends at Marvel:

Tron: Betrayal! bridges the story between the first Tron film from 1982 and the the new film and tells the story of Kevin Flynn, who is now in charge of the world’s largest video game company, Encom. The break-through game developer has built the Grid, a digital world filled with living programs except now the new virtual world is about to develop a life of its own and, in order to control it, Flynn’s going to need the help of an old friend: Tron.

Showcasing a key time of the mythology of the Tron world, TRON: Betrayal #1 will show the early days of the Grid, and the first appearances of the heroes and villains that will be seen in TRON: Legacy.

Sounds interesting. If it’s half as good as IDW’s prequel comic from J.J. Abrams recent Star Trek film, it might just be worth a read.

Check out the previews for this graphic novel after the jump. Tron: Betrayal! hits store shelves on October 6th.

• In conjunction with the rising popularity (not population) of Zombies, who isn’t surprised to see Zombie Jerky make it’s way to the US?

• They may not be for sale, but these Portal book ends are already on our office Christmas list.
