Welcome to another edition of The Pull List Comic Reviews! The latest mutant milestone issue gets top billing, Spidey winds up in the wrong sandbox and Guy Gardner sees a whole lot more than just red. As always, WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.
PULL OF THE WEEK:
X-Factor #200
Marvel Comics – $4.99 US
Writer: Peter David
Artists: Bing Cansino, Marco Santucci, Karl Moline
Score: 9.5/10
X-Factor Investigations makes the move from Detroit to New York in hopes of wrangling some new clients of the super-hero variety, but when their first client winds up being Franklin and Valeria Richards – the children to Reed and Sue Richards of the Fantastic Four – the team realizes that all is not what it seems.
Long-time X-Factor scribe Peter David continues to mix jaw-dropping plot bombs with great characterizations and intelligent humor in this over-sized anniversary special. The mystery of the missing Invisible Woman, on it’s own, is a great story, but throw in Monet’s father being abducted by terrorists, Siryn’s shocking rendezvous with an old flame (hint: he’s nuts) and Layla Miller’s surprising allegiance to Latveria, and you’ve got one hell of a jump-on issue.
The art team of Bing Cansino and Marco Santucci do a great job of pacing this mammoth story, and their takes on the characters are both familiar and fresh. With a title that relies heavily on many speaking scenes, which should come as no surprise to current readers, their art is right on the money, but they also flex their proverbial muscle in the action scenes, especially where the Thing is involved.

Katee Sackhoff will join the long line of celebrities that are taking a stab at comic books, a medium that Hollywood seems to be more in love with than “traditional” literature. Along with Rosario Dawson, Tyrese Gibson and Rashida Jones, Sackhoff will be teaming up with a co-writer named Sxv’leithan Essex on a comic book called Versus, which in a recent interview with TV Guide Magazine, she said would be announced at next year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
In the interview, Sackhoff also explained her love for much of Jeph Loeb’s comic work, and in particular just about everything he’s done with Superman. Sackhoff didn’t have much to say about a publisher, artist, or when we could expect to see the book hit shelves, but she assured that all will be revealed next year in San Diego.
Sackhoff, who most famously played Starbuck on the reboot of the Sci-Fi Channel series, Battlestar Galactica, will be appearing in the upcoming season of 24. Her co-writer, Sxv’leithan Essex, has a couple of credits to his name including a horror film called Bled, a series of Metal music videos, and an upcoming werewolf fight club film titled Growl.

The animation departments of DC and Warner brothers has been on quite a hot streak since last year’s release of Justice League: New Frontier. Their releases of both Wonder Woman and Green Lantern films over the last year were both critically well reviewed and did well in the stores. Since New Frontier, this project is the first story that was taken almost directly from a published storyline, originally written by Jeph Loeb.
The great part about Jeph Loeb’s Public Enemies is he teamed up with artist Ed McGuinness, who is best known for his animated art style. This made the announcement of the direct-to-DVD feature all the more exciting. Not only was the source material well done, but casting director Andrea Romano was also able to bring back the dream team of DC voice actors to return to characters they helped make immortal.
Tim Daly, Kevin Conroy, and Clancy Brown all returned to the roles of Superman, Batman, and Lex Luthor, respectively, for the first time since the Animated Adventures of Superman and Batman nearly 9 years ago. Aside from the “dream team”, some other great names were added to the project, making this an epic animated feature.

This week we’re bringing you lots of new interviews with some of the people behind the scenes of the new DC Animated DVD Superman/Batman: Public Enemies. Yesterday, we talked to screenwriter Stan Berkowitz on both adapting Jeph Loeb’s original story and possible plans for cameos in the film.
Today, we bring you an interview of a different ilk. Introducing Michael Goguen, who some may know by name, but most know by style. MIchael has been working in as a character developer and producer for animated series for nearly 20 years. He had worked on the original Batman: The Animated Series, as producing The Spectacular Spider-Man and another DC animated DVD in Justice League: New Frontier.
Michael was able to speak with us on animating Ed McGuinness’ art style (which is already quite animated) into something slightly darker and more coherent to the adaptation. Check out the interview after the jump, and keep it here for more Superman/Batman: Public Enemies interviews all week in preparation for it’s September 29th release!

With DC’s animated division releasing Green Lantern: First Flight later this year, the marketing for the next direct-to-DVD film is already starting up. This time, the focus will shift on the world’s finest, as Superman and Batman take on Lex Luthor in an adaptation of Jeph Loeb’s Public Enemies story arc. From a Warner Home Video Press Release:
The movie reunites the lead voices of Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor from the landmark “Superman: The Animated Series” and “Batman: The Animated Series”. Tim Daly (Private Practice), Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League) and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption) reprise their roles as Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor, respectively.
