It’s not particularly surprising that Mad Men and Mildred Pierece had the most nominations today when Melissa McCarthy and Joshua Jackson made the 2011 Primetime Emmy announcement. Jane Lynch will be hosting the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 18.
For the complete list of nominees, head over to the Emmys website. We’ve just got the ones we really care about for you here. (aka The Big Ones).
Of course, the fact that Community isn’t nominated in the Outstanding Comedy category just makes these awards that much less special. Plus, I wouldn’t want to be nominated in a category against Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones. He’s pretty much got that one in the bag
Check out the nominations below.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Johnny Galecki, The Big Bang Theory
Matt LeBlanc, Episodes
Louis C.K., Louie
Steve Carell, The Office
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Michael C. Hall, Dexter

This week, Chris and Matt draw closer to the 100th episode of The Flickcast as they shed a tear for the canceled shows announced in the last week like Human Target, The Chicago Code and Breaking In. Some shows, however, are still “on the bubble” such as Chuck and ABC’s V.
The two also go over why Will Smith joining Tarantino’s Django Unleashed would be such a bad idea, the pointlessness of HBO Go when you’re a Time Warner Cable customer, and what it means to be a real fan of comedy.
Their picks this week were, as usual, quite different. Chris went old school and reminded us how awesome and less ridiculous the first season of 24 was, while Matt explains the insanity and hilarity that ensued in HBO’s comedy special Talking Funny starring Ricky Gervais, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and Louis C.K.
And for those who still don’t know what the title is referencing, and why Matt is singing through most of the episode, behold the original theme to the film Django.
Take a listen to what we’re talking about in this week’s episode after the jump.

We’ve expressed our delight that Louis C.K. is back on the air, now with a second chance at a show about…well, himself. Not only is this revamped show much better than it’s predecessor, Lucky Louie, it’s actually pretty good.
There have been plenty of guest stars in the season already, including Ricky Gervais and Jim Norton. Now we’ve got a brand new clip from tonight’s episode that will make you laugh as hard as you have in previous weeks.
So without further adieu, here you go, Louie fans. A new clip from tonight’s episode featuring Louie trying out for a role in a new Godfather film. Catch the full clip after the jump, and catch Louie every Tuesday on FX at 10PM EST.

It’s very rare that a TV show gets resurrected for a second chance. Fox has been known to do this with a few of its shows, but they’re also known to pull the plug on a show about 30 seconds after they greenlight it. HBO, however, wanted to give plenty of chances to Louis C.K.’s raunchy sitcom Lucky Louie, even though it really wasn’t that good.
The show was inevitably canceled, leaving for some mixed feelings. A few years go by, Louis has a Rocky-style montage in the woods somewhere, and now he’s back and stronger than ever. Louie is basically the exact same premise as his late HBO series, with a few minor changes (including dropping that terrible laugh track). This time? The show actually looks watchable.
The series debuts on FX this Tuesday, and promises to have some pretty great cameos along the way, one of which you can see in a clip after the jump. Catch Louie on FX Tuesday, June 29th at 11pm ET/PT.

Sure to start up a storm of controversy, this film from co-director/co-writer Ricky Gervais is a biting social satire wrapped up in the trappings of a cute little romantic comedy. It pushes boundaries, and is tremendously bold. The story takes place in an alternate realty where lying does not exist. A blind date between the beautiful Anna (cute as a button Jennifer Garner) and schlubby screenplay writer Mark (Ricky Gervais) sets up the premise of the movie nicely.
When he rings the doorbell, she arrives flustered, proclaiming that she has been masturbating. This causes him to blurt out that he is now thinking about her vagina. When they get to the restaurant, a waiter (Martin Starr) greets them with “I’m embarrassed I work here” and later, while delivering a drink, he confesses, ” oh I had a little sip of this.” Mark immediately tells Anna that he has no net worth and will probably be getting fired soon. She informs him that there is no chance of them having a relationship because he has no money, no social stature, and she fears they would have fat children.
The following day, Mark is fired, and on his way out of the office, everyone is sure to let him know how much they disliked him. It is a sad scene of petty and cruel behavior, and it lays the groundwork for the concept that honesty is not always the best policy. The down-on-his-luck, soon to be evicted Mark has a personal Jesus moment when he is at the bank, and realizes that he can just lie about his account balance. The teller naturally believes him, and assumes their computer must have made an error.

Louis C.K. might not be a name that many people know, but he may just be one of the more innovative, and possibly best comedians of our time. You might know his face from several small roles in films like Role Models and TV shows like Home Movies, or his writing on such shows as Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. You may soon know both his name and face more as the FX network has picked up a show based on him simply titled Louie as well as a second series titled The League.
Some may remember the brief 13-episode run of Lucky Louie on HBO, but the new Louie is said to be done in a different vain. According to Variety:
“Louie” is based on the star’s life and will blend standup material with what Landgraf described as “extended vignettes” depicting moments from his offstage experiences. Louis CK is exec producer, writer and helmer of the series.
Meanwhile, The League seems to still be on the comedic side, but won’t be as much about the comedian:
FX Networks president John Landgraf described “League” as a kind of suburban-set “Sex and the City” for men. The semi-improv show revolves around the lives of a group of college friends as they’re forced to take on more responsibilities as husbands and fathers.
These two half-hour comedies will be added to FX’s growing comedy line up along with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which has already become a big hit both on the air, and on DVD. To get a hint at what the new series will be showcasing, check out a famous rant Louis C.K. had on Conan O’Brien a few years back after the jump. Both shows are expected to start next year.
