Newsflash! The Muppets Hate Old Rich People

by Matt Raub, Dec 6 2011 // 10:00 AM

That’s right. You heard it here last. It seems that the newest film featuring our favorite Henson classics The Muppets is yet another “plan for the left to bad mouth affluent businessmen” as the film’s main antagonist is an evil oil baron.

According to a report (yes, they felt the need to do an entire segment on this) from Fox Business, Jason Segal’s Muppet film is guilty of negatively portraying a simple business owner in the form of Chris Cooper’s “Tex Richman”, an evil baron who’s set on destroying the Muppet studios to drill for oil.

The fact that Fox, or anyone for that matter, would think that it’s news that The Muppets, a creation of Jim Henson, is just now taking aim at the aptly labeled 1%, is just preposterous.

Note that the news report barely mentions the existence of Statler and Woldof, who were doing the “old, rich, white antagonist” act before this reporter was able to walk. Take a look at the downfall of modern journalism in true form after the jump, and catch The Muppets in theaters now, or the oil barons of the world win.

Meet the Newest Muppet, Walter, in a Brand New Clip From ‘The Muppets’

by Matt Raub, Nov 23 2011 // 7:30 AM

It takes a pretty big milestone for the Henson Company to decide to introduce a new a new Muppet. They introduced Pepe the King Prawn back in 1996 with the launch of the Muppets Tonight TV series, and that may just be the last time we’ve seen a new Muppet join the gang. Until now.

With Jason Segal’s new Muppets script comes a brand new Muppet named Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, who wishes nothing more than to visit Muppet Studios with his big brother, played by Segal. Consider this character a bit of a surrogate for Segal’s love of Henson’s work and the craze which was and still is The Muppets.

We’ve got a brand new clip for you, in which Walter and his brother Segal sing about their beloved hometown and why they wouldn’t need anything outside of it.

Take a look at the clip after the jump, and be sure to check out our other two clips that we brought you this week, and race out to the theaters as The Muppets hits theaters today.

It’s Muppets Vs. Moopets in This Clip from ‘The Muppets’

by Matt Raub, Nov 22 2011 // 8:30 AM

Some of our favorite heroes from yesteryear have their opposites. Whether it’s Captain Planet and Captain Pollution, He-Man and Faker or even Superman and Bizarro, our favorites always had an antithesis to their heroicism.

That’s exactly what we’re going to get this Thursday when The Muppets hits theaters. While our favorite gang of singing frogs, bears, pigs, and the such are forced out of the entertainment industry, it’s time for a new gang to take form. That gang? They’re called “The Moopets.”

Consisting of Miss Poogy, Foozie the Bear, Roowlf, and a Janice and Kermit look-alike, the team wanted to pick up the slack where that other musical act left off in the 90s.

We’ve got a brand new clip for you today in which Miss Piggy and her Muppets take on Miss Poogy and her Moopets. As you can imagine, sparks fly.

Check out the clip after the jump, and make it back here every day for more Muppets clips leading up to the film’s release on Thursday.

It’s a Classic Cleaning Montage in a New Clip from ‘The Muppets’

by Matt Raub, Nov 21 2011 // 1:30 PM

Billions of grown up kids will get to relive on of their childhood favorites this week as Jason Segel brings The Muppets back to the silver screen for the first time in over a decade. We can’t tell you how excited we are around the office for this flick to arrive, so we’re getting you all more prepared with clips all this week.

Today’s clip has a special treat: a retro-style cleaning montage in the tune of Jefferson Starship’s “We Built This City”. As you can see, this one will be full of meta, classic movie spoofs, and tons of celebrity cameos.

The film stars Jason Segel and Amy Adams, along with Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, and just about every Muppet that you can name (and then some!). Take a look at our exclusive clip after the jump, and make it back here every day this week as we lead up to the film’s release with a new clip daily!

New ‘Expendables 2′ Poster, Star Wars Supercut, & The Annoying Orange Are All On The Radar

by Matt Raub, Nov 19 2011 // 9:00 AM

Welcome to another edition of On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

• While things aren’t going so well for the Uncharted or Assassin’s Creed film adaptations, that hasn’t stopped a studio from moving forward on a film based on the classic monster game Rampage.

• The heads of action fans everywhere may just explode when they see the very first poster for The Expendables 2 featuring Norris, Van Damme, and the whole cast.

• Take a jump in a depressing time machine as you see young Tim Burton acting as normal as ever in this footage from Disney Studios circa 1980.

• It looks like the internet is seeping into mainstream media again, as The Annoying Orange was just announced to have a show coming up on Cartoon Network.

• Exactly how many times did The Force get brought up in all 6 Star Wars films? We have no idea, but here they all are.

• You may know the prime Muppets, but here is a list of the best known Muppets from around the world that you may have never heard of. Like Oscar the Grouch’s Israeli cousin.

Web Video Roundup: Doctor Who Sing-a-Long, Donald Glover’s New Single, & The Muppets Take WWE Raw

by The Flickcast, Nov 2 2011 // 11:30 AM

Season 1 of TBS’s Conan is coming to a close, and with that, this awesome montage of the show’s opening sequences over the past several episodes.

After watching Big Trouble in Little China more times than we care to count, we never realized that Kurt Russel had no idea what was going on for pretty much the entire film. Until now.

What happens when you run out of bullets on the battlefield? You use defibrillators, of course. That’s what we learned in the latest Corridor Digital short.

Your childhood had an aneurism this Monday as The Muppets made a very special appearance on this week’s WWE Raw. This is only one of the episode’s several highlights.

Donald Glover’s rapping alter ego Childish Gambino is back with a brand new lead single for his new album. This one, titled Bonfire, came just in time to get you in the creepy Halloween mood this week.

Film Score Friday: “The Muppets: The Green Album” by Various Artists

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Sep 30 2011 // 4:30 PM

The Muppets are coming! The Muppets are coming!

This holiday season the Muppets are back in the aptly titled movie, The Muppets. I am a second generation Muppet fan, I grew up on the Muppet Babies and my first cinematic exposure to Jim Henson’s genius was A Muppet Christmas Carol. So, for me, the classic era of the Muppets was discovered after the fact, meaning that most of this music I love but don’t have that same childhood bond with it that most fans possess. I like to feel this gives me a more objective look on this album.

Like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Disney has released an album collection of classic songs, covered by hots bands of today. This actually happened twice for Nightmare and was splendid both times. The Muppets seemed like a natural next step for this trend with a new movie coming out and a stable of classic songs to choose from.

The collection isn’t as strong as the Nightmare release, but it does have some excellent versions of some of my personal favorite songs. This concept excels when you have a perfect blend of franchise and band, Marylyn Manson and Jack Skeleton are perfect together, unfortunately The Green Album doesn’t offer enough of that kind of perfect mix.

Web Video Roundup: X-Men’s Born This Way, ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ Fight Scene, & Toyota’s Future Window

by Matt Raub, Jul 20 2011 // 4:00 PM

Looks like Old Spice is still producing weird commercials, but now they’ve  got a brand new spokesman in Fabio. Improvement?

While the Dark Knight Rises teaser was pretty awesome, it’s nowhere near as awesome as the trailer mashed up with Batman: The Animated Series.

Lady GaGa’s Born This Way has got an X-Men makeover, and now there’s even a killer video to go along with it.

Beastie Boys get an amazing new music video for the classic hit Sure Shot, but this time with the Muppets from Sesame Street.

Muppets Continue Their Viral Adventure with ‘The Fuzzy Pack’ Trailer

by Matt Raub, May 27 2011 // 7:00 AM

Summer is here, which means viral marketing is at its peak. And who doesn’t love viral marketing for a movie starring the Muppets? The answer is nobody. That’s why Disney has been on top of things with their viral strategy this week with the Green with Envy trailer earlier this week, and now a new trailer for The Fuzzy Pack.

This trailer isn’t nearly as ingenious as Envy, and it looks like it’ll be capitalizing on the obvious success of this weekend’s Hangover Part 2. (“The Fuzzy Pack” is an obvious riff on “The Wolf Pack”.)

The things this trailer does give us? Proof that both Wanda Sykes and Danny Trejo can still be awesome and hilarious in a movie starring felt puppets.

Take a look at the new trailer after the jump and join in the Muppety chaos on November 23rd.

Trailer Tuesdays: Guilty Pleasures

by Eric Medina, May 24 2011 // 12:00 PM

When people talk about movies they are most excited to see, they will normally stick to the big budget action adventures, raunchy comedies, or thrillers.  It is rare to see a grown adult get publicly excited about the newest children’s animation or cheesy chick-flick.  But when all is said and done, and we are alone in our living rooms browsing Netflix, most of the time we are actually in the mood for something light and fun.  Just admit it, we all love the occasional cartoon for family comedy.

This week we have two classic family franchises getting rebooted, a trailer for a superhero film that just doesn’t seem to want to ever come out, and a guilty pleasure indie flick.

First Poster For ‘The Muppets’ Remind Us That They’re Closer Than We Think

by Matt Raub, May 20 2011 // 10:00 AM

Hard to believe, but it has been over 10 years since we have had a theatrical release starring The Muppets. That film was Muppets in Space and had a pretty stellar (no pun intended) cast for 1999 with names like Jeffrey Tambor, David Arquette, Andie MacDowell, Ray Liotta, and Rob Schneider joining in the felt wackiness.

Hard to believe it, but it looks like Jason Segel may actually be able to top that cast with the list of cameos for his upcoming Muppets film, tentatively titled The Greatest Muppets Movie Ever Made.

Just to drop a few names, the film promises to have appearances from Emily Blunt, Zach Galifiniakis, Neil Patrick Harris, Ed Helms, Jack Black, Danny Trejo, Amy Adams, Ricky Gervais, Katy Perry, Donald Glover, Whoopi Goldberg, and dozens of other names.

Needless to say, that title may just fit this film. The very first poster has arrived for the unnamed project, and much like the tagline in it, the film is much closer than you think, as the current release date is set for November 23rd of this year.

Check out the full poster after the jump, and be sure to keep it here as we bring you more news on the upcoming film.

Anne Hathaway’s Wardrobe Malfunction, A Russian ‘MST3K’ & Muppet Ballons are all On The Radar

by The Flickcast, Jan 28 2011 // 5:00 PM

Welcome to another edition of  On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

Let’s get started!

• What if some of our favorite Oscar nominees had spot-on posters? Well, they may actually make money then…

• James Franco is such a good co-host, he’s even prepared to take Anne Hathaway down in case of an Oscar wardrobe malfunction.

• Nerdy shirts are all the rage these days, but when Star Wars meets Back to the Future, a purchase needs to be made.

• Some things need no introduction…so here’s a bunch of Muppets made out of balloons.

• You know what the world needs? A Russian MST3K ripoff. This is definitely why we won the war…

• Harry Hanrahan has brought us some pretty amazing supercuts in the past, but now….It’s Showtime!

• Why is it the US gets films like No String Attached and Just Go With It when other countries get films like Robot? It’s just unfair.

• And for your list of the week, The 10 Most Obscure Archer Jokes Explained. Enjoy!
