Check Out New Screen Shots and Trailers for ‘Street Fighter X Tekken’

by John Carle, Jan 24 2012 // 7:30 AM

As we have discussed, we can’t wait for March 6th to hit. In addition to the plethora of other games coming that date, quite possibly the biggest fighting game franchise ever will be hitting that day as well with Street Fighter X Tekken. Ever since getting hands on with it, the Flickcast has been excited to get our hands on the final build for review. And now, Capcom has only wet our appetite even further.

Capcom has added Balrog, Juri and Vega to the Street Fighter side and Paul, Law and Xiaoyu to the Tekken team of playable characters. Along with that, they have released a bunch of screens, character art and gameplay footage which can all be seen below of these six awesome fighters. Part of the excitement for these additions is that these Street Fighter characters haven’t graced a new game since Street Fighter IV as all three didn’t make it into Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and this has been the first Tekken release since 2009.

In addition, check out the fifth story trailer, also below, that gives some insight in to exactly what is happening to bring these two worlds together. Much like the previous Marvel vs. Capcom 3 trailers, they don’t really make much sense and are an excuse for action, but damn if they don’t look pretty while confusing the hell out of the viewer.

Check out the new screens and trailers after the jump. Stay tuned to the Flickcast for more on Street Fighter X Tekken as it quickly approaches its March 6th release date for the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.

Greg Mottola to Direct Aaron Sorkin’s HBO Pilot

by Chris Ullrich, Mar 29 2011 // 7:00 AM

I don’t think anyone would argue that Aaron Sorkin is an extremely talented writer. His shows, including Sports Night, The West Wing and Studio 60 and movies like the recent The Social Network, have proved this over and over.

Needless to say, we’re big fans. So, when Sorkin takes on a new project, we’re interested. As we told you previously, Sorkin is returning to TV with a new show on HBO. And now, that show’s pilot has a director.

Superbad and Paul helmer Greg Mottola is now set to direct the pilot set behind the scenes of a cable news show. The project centers on news anchor Will McCallister, which Jeff Daniels will most likely play, who has his own cable show, his female executive producer and his staff.

With Sorkin doing a new show, Jeff Daniels starring and now with Mottola’s involvement, we’re even more interested in this show. Come on HBO, get it going and let’s see it soon.

Box Office: ‘Limitless’ Pulls Off a Surprise

by Shannon Hood, Mar 21 2011 // 7:00 AM

Bradley Cooper’s mind twisting thriller Limitless outperformed box office predictions and handily won the weekend box office with $19M. It also was a hit with audiences, earning a B+ cinemascore.

This is Cooper’s first true starring vehicle, and with a budget of around $27M, it should easily prove profitable. With The Hangover 2 right around the corner, Cooper will surely confirm his status as an A-list talent.

Johnny Depp helped propel Rango to number two with $15.2M.  It dropped a respectable 32% from last weekend, bringing its three week total to $92.6M.

Battle: Los Angeles took quite a tumble; dropping off 59% from its opening weekend. It managed to make $14.6M over the weekend.

Matthew McConaughey scored fourth place with his Lincoln Lawyer debut. The film made $13.4m and was well received by audiences.  Entertainment Weekly reports that this is the first film to join forces with Groupon.  The popular daily coupon site sold discounted tickets to the movie for $6.  They sold almost 200,000 tickets.  It will be interesting to see if this model will be adapted by future films.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s ‘Star Wars’

by Joe Gillis, Mar 15 2011 // 2:30 PM

With the impeding release of Paul, featuring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, it’s a good time to check in and see if the pair of Brit funnymen have anything else to offer this week. It should be no surprise that they do.

It should also be no surprise, that is if you’ve been following their careers, that the boys have a love for all-things sci-fi and for Star Wars in particular. If you’ve never seen their show Spaced, you should. It will give you a great idea what I’m talking about.

In the meantime, we’ve got a very funny video from College Humor featuring the twosome doing their best Star Wars imitations of R2-D2 and C-3PO. It looks like this video was done during the making of Paul and is definitely worth checking out.

So, to that end, check out the video after the jump. Paul opens this Friday.

SXSW Film Review: ‘Paul’

by Nat Almirall, Mar 15 2011 // 8:30 AM

I’m a shameful(less?) Anglophile, which in turn makes me an unabashed(ful) Francophobe, and some of the tenderest English patches of my otherwise iron heart are reserved for Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and, of course, Edgar Wright, the three gents who, through their collaborations in such fine works as the sitcom Spaced, and the films, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, demonstrated a mutual respect, appreciation, love for American pop-culture—something I’ve seen very seldomly outside of America.

In fact, it’s so rare, I don’t think there’s actually a term for it (Americaphile? Colonialphile? Washingtonian-a-philia?). So when there’s a project featuring at least two of three, I take notice.

And now we have Paul wherein another favorite, Seth Rogen, voices the titular Paul, an alien who came crashing to earth some 60 years ago and was immediately kidnapped by the US and taken to mysterious Area 51, never to be heard from again…

…until 60 years later, specifically while two British, alien-obsessed Americaphiles Graeme (Pegg) and Clive (Frost) are making a tour across the US on their way to Comic-Con, simultaneously hitting every E.T.-related point of interest along the way.

Naturally that leads them through the (evidently) lone highway toward Area 51, with the only other car on the road being piloted by the freshly escaped Paul. Crashes ensue, and the boys meet Paul, who explains he’s fleeing from government agents and asks, his ride being totaled, to tag along.

He does, of course, and farther along the way they attracted the attention/pick up a collection of equally strange and terrible characters, including flighty Bible-thumper Ruth (Kristen Wiig), her truck-driving, shotgun-wielding father (John Carroll Lynch), and a handful of spooky government agents (Jason Bateman, Bill Hader among them), the collection of which all builds up for the big cameo at the end.

Box Office: ‘Battle: LA’ Conquers the Weekend

by Matt Raub, Mar 14 2011 // 7:30 AM

Not a bad weekend for Hollywood and the domestic box office, as Battle: Los Angeles took the top spot with a decent $36 million for a March opening weekend. That is just about 50% of the $70 Million production budget of the film. You know what that means: expect a sequel.

Other opening weekend movies didn’t fare as well including the family CG-animated film Mars Needs Moms, which opened with an unfortunate $6.8 Million (the budget was over $150 Million) and landed in the 5th spot. Catherine Hardwicke’s re-imagining of Red Riding Hood pulled in $14 Million and came in at the 3rd spot.

Movement from last weekend was quite significant, as Rango moved to the number two spot and went down almost 50%, pulling in $23 Million over the weekend, and $68 Million since it’s opening last weekend.

Matt Damon’s Adjustment Bureau must have had some terrible word of mouth, as it went down 45% since last week, and went all the way down to the number 4 spot, with $11.5 Million.

Next weekend Relativity’s Limitless goes head-to-head with the Matthew McConaughey vehicle, The Lincoln Lawyer, and the fanboy-crazed Paul. Could be an interesting weekend, if Battle: LA doesn’t retain for another weekend.

Aliens Hit The UK in a New Trailer For ‘Attack The Block’

by Matt Raub, Mar 4 2011 // 3:00 PM

While here in the states, we’ll be fighting off the alien threat out of Hollywood in Battle:LA, they’ve got a less conventional way of taking down evil extraterrestrials overseas. What happens when aliens are met with a bunch of street-savvy hoodrats from South London? Nothing good.

Here’s the official synopsis.

From the producers of SHAUN OF THE DEAD and SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD comes ATTACK THE BLOCK, a fast funny, frightening action adventure movie that pits a teen gang against an invasion of savage alien monsters. It turns a London tower block into a fortress under siege, and a weapon wielding teenage thugs into heroes. It’s inner city versus outer space.

Because Paul just wasn’t enough of an alien encounter, Nick Frost steps into this film as well, as the only well-known comedic figure in the film. Overall, an interesting take on a classic story, played to today’s social culture.

Check out the full trailer for Attack the Block after the jump, and the film hits UK screens on May 13th, so you can expect it to hit the states sometime shortly after.

International Trailer For ‘Paul’ Finally Brings The Funny

by Sebastian Suchecki, Dec 20 2010 // 7:30 AM

A few months ago, we first brought you the trailer for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s newest comedy, this time taking place in the US, titled Paul. Fanboys (especially those who attended Comic-Con this year) had heard nothing but great things about this upcoming film, and when the first trailer hit, we got anything but tickled with humor. The trailer showed us all of our favorite actors and actresses that could make a good flick, but was cut in a way that was lacking in any comedic payoff whatsoever. It looks like things have changed with a brand new trailer, however.

This new International trailer finally gives us the goods. For those who don’t know, the film follows Pegg and Frost’s characters across country to their first ever San Diego Comic-Con. On the way, they decide to pass through the famed Area 51 and come across Paul, an escaped alien, voiced by Seth Rogen. After choosing to befriend the little guy, they are forced to keep him safe from a shadowy government figure (Sigourney Weaver) who sends her best men after him (Bill Hader & Jason Bateman).

The flick has plenty more cameos, nods to other geeky franchises, and yes, alien nudity. Check out the full trailer after the jump and catch Paul in theaters on March 18th.

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s Next To Be A Post-Apocalyptic Comedy

by Matt Raub, Nov 12 2010 // 12:00 PM

While Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are off discovering aliens named Paul in the desert, and Edgar Wright allegedly helps the Marvel Universe get an Ant Man, fans of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead everywhere are pacing back and forth for the next time the three will do another film together. Well, you may not have to wait forever, just until the end of the world.

In a recent chat with io9, Wright explained that he’s taking some time off from the easy genre-spoofing and work on a really meaty project. One about the end of the world.

“You start to think that people assume you have a blindfold and a dart board, and oh, okay, kung fu, let’s do that. I think what I would like to do now is to make stories that appeal to me.”

“Maybe [the title is The World’s End]. I don’t know. I think so. We liked that idea. It had a sort of resonance in a different way. It might be that we continue with that idea, or it might be that we start all over again. […] We never said it was post-apocalyptic movie, though. To be honest, in a weird way, I regret saying anything at all because then people start speculating. It’s more we probably shouldn’t have said anything at all. I’ve found that I regret speaking too soon about stuff. Because you end up sounding like the boy who cried wolf.”

Pegg and Frost’s Paul can be seen in theaters on March 18th and Wright’s Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is currently available on Blu-Ray and DVD everywhere.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost Smuggle An Alien In The First Trailer For ‘Paul’

by Joe Gillis, Oct 19 2010 // 8:00 AM

Nerds everywhere have been hearing more and more about the next big Simon Pegg & Nick Frost (stars of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) film called Paul. All we really knew was that it starred our favorite English duo plus Bill Hader, Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver, Kristin Wiig, and Seth Rogen. That is until a little show called San Diego Comic-Con happened, and now all we want is more from the film.

The premise of the film has Pegg and Frost as two Brits traveling across the country on their way to Comic-Con. Along the way they come across a rogue alien escaping from Area 51. Rogen lends his voice as the titular Paul, the alien, with Bateman and Hader as the Men in Black-style FBI agents who are sent to retrieve him.

From what we hear, the footage they showed during the Comic-Con panel did the film more justice, but this will appeal to the mass audience. Expect to see plenty of fan service throughout the film, as just about everyone involved in it has some bit of geek cred to their name.

Check out the first trailer for the film after the jump. Catch Pegg and Frost in Paul on March 18th of next year.

Fan Film Friday: Bill Hader’s ‘Bad Lieutenant’

by Matt Raub, Nov 20 2009 // 11:30 AM

Bill-Hader-Not-ToughFor those getting ready for Nicolas Cage’s version of 1992′s Bad Lieutenant, they should do two things. One: check out our review of the new film before they decide to buy a ticket, and two: check out this amazing video that SNL’s Bill Hader and Mean Magazine put together about a year ago when the remake was first announced.

Hader is currently one of the “Not Ready For Primetime Players” on Saturday Night Live, but he’s also one of the more popular character actors of the past few years. Most will remember him as one of the officers from Superbad, the Shaman in Year One or the park owner in Adventureland. His next big role will be alongside Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in Paul.

Check out the video after the jump, and join us in complaining that Werner Herzog decided to cast Nic Cage in the lead role in Bad Lieutenant rather than going with Hader.
