TV RECAP: “The Office: Search Committee”

by Nat Almirall, May 20 2011 // 2:15 PM

Another season of The Office down. We’ve had our laughs, our cries, and our slew of other emotions and ended with the big season question of who’s going to replace Steve Carell unanswered. As Billy Bob Thornton would say, “It’s kind of like dating a German chick.”

That said, this season did go out on somewhat of a good note. Although the barrage of guest stars is a classic sitcom staple, The Office was wise to stick with well-worn comedians and spare us the caterwaulings of an out-of-place musical guest (though Carrey’s appearance comes close).

I really enjoyed Will Arnett, Ray Romano, and James Spader (whom I thought was Judge Rheinhold) working their magic, and I may be showing my old-man tendencies here, but Romano seemed the clear victor among the group, playing the sad-sacked, whiny defeatist so well I wonder if it’s a character he was saving for the darker days of Ray Barone. Catherine Tate, Ricky Gervais, Warren Buffet, and, yes, Jim Carrey, I could have taken or left—they were there simply to be there and didn’t add much.

Check Out A Preview for Tonight’s Season Finale of ‘The Office’

by Heather Toshiko, May 19 2011 // 2:55 PM

Tonight’s the night we find out (probably) who will be the new boss on The Office to replace Michael Scott (aka Steve Carell). A litany of guest starts are along for the ride and should make this an interesting show, to say the least.

Here’s the breakdown from NBC:

If you were going into a job interview, wouldn’t it be nice to meet Jim Halpert? That’s what the candidates will face tonight on The Office! Everyone knows Dwight’s vying for the new manager job, but he’s facing stiff competition from guest stars Jim Carey, Will Arnett, Ricky Gervais, Ray Romano, and Catherine Tate among others.

There’s also the Parks and Rec season finale tonight as well as a bonus episode right before it. In the bonus episode, Chris wants to make departmental changes and Tom doubts his career path. Then, the season finale features an old friend that may surprise you (it did us).

Click through to check out a preview for tonight’s episode of The Office after the break. Find out who the boss is tonight at 9/8C on NBC. No, it probably won’t be Tony Danza.

Expect Cameos From Ray Romano, Catherine Tate and James Spader On ‘The Office’ Season Finale

by Matt Raub, Apr 6 2011 // 12:00 PM

Will Ferrell not big enough for all of you fans of NBC’s The Office? How about an hour-long season finale featuring Ferrell, Ricky Gervais, Will Arnett, Ray Romano, Doctor Who’s Catherine Tate and James Spader?

NBC has recently announced that the trio of Spader, Tate, and Romano will be making appearances in the upcoming season finale of The Office, in which we get the last episode with Steve Carell’s Michael Scott.

Carell’s character may be quitting the paper business to live the married life, but his real life counterpart will be taking on a new NBC comedy in which he tells the story of a younger him delivering mail for a living after college.

The question still remains: Who will replace Michael Scott as the new boss of the Scranton branch?

With this huge slew of cameo stars for the finale, you can see NBC is stirring the pot by making you think it could be any one of those candidates.

Sadly, you’ll just have to wait for the full season finale on May 19th to see for yourselves. Until then, who would you like to see replace Steve Carrell’s Michael Scott on the show?

Sound off in the comments!
