Tom Selleck’s ‘Indiana Jones’ Audition, NBC’s ‘Wonder Woman’ Teaser, & WiiU’s ‘Killer Freaks from Outer Space’ are all On The Radar

by The Flickcast, Jun 10 2011 // 1:15 PM

Welcome to another edition of On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

Let’s get started!

• We finally get the first sounds of Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull in a new teaser for Captain America: The First Avenger. Funny…he sounds a lot like Megatron.

• It looks like the lawsuit against Warner Bros for use of Mike Tyson’s tattoo on Ed Helms in The Hangover Part II may force them to CG the tattoo out of the DVD’s. This seems like a completely reasonable use of that $400 million the film made in the box office.

• Dark animated film 9 director Shane Acker is planning on a big-screen adaptation of Thomas The Tank Engine. Our hope is that Tim Burton also produces this film and Thomas is now a train…from hell!

• Ever want to know what Raiders of the Lost Ark would be like with Tom Selleck and Sean Young? Here you go, but we warn you: the mustache did not help him in the audition.

• Before we ever get the inevitable leaked pilot, we’ve got a whopping 7 second teaser from the failed NBC Wonder Woman series. Who knew you could sum up the entire reason why it failed in 7 seconds?

• In hoping to leave the kids table and join the big boys, Nintendo has teamed with Ubisoft to work on a new raunchy game for the WiiU, titled Killer Freaks from Outer Space. We’re totally sold.

Exclusive: Timur Bekmambetov Talks ’9′

by Matt Raub, Sep 9 2009 // 2:30 PM

Picture 1Last month, we brought you an exclusive interview with director/producer Timur Bekmambetov where he talked about his plans for a sequel to last year’s comic book adaptation of Wanted. We also got to speak to the director of such great horror films as Nightwatch and Daywatch about working as producer with Tim Burton on 9, which hits theaters today.

For those unaware, 9 started off as an award-winning animated short, which peaked the interest in a few agents. One of which, happened to be the agent of both Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, who were both eager to bring the project to the big screen as a full length feature.

Check out the video after the jump, as we discuss how 9 came to be, Timur’s journey along the way, and what his initial thoughts were on Shane Acker’s short. Be sure to keep it here in the coming weeks for more with director/producer Timur Bekmambetov.

Brand New Images from Shane Acker’s ’9′

by Chris Ullrich, Sep 4 2009 // 9:45 AM

4030_FP_r1_grd46.18180RWe’ve been bringing you news of Shane Acker’s upcoming film 9 for some time now. Previously, we showed you the new poster, the film’s brand new website, some character posters, a brand new clip from the movie and much more. Now, we’ve got even more from the film to share with you, in the form of four brand new pictures depicting various scenes from the film.

These new images give us more insight into just how cool and interesting this film is going to be. They also show us some detail on two of the main characters in this fantasy world and a preview of a pretty scary monster as well. In case its been some time or you don’t actually know, the film concerns the character 9, who finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone. It is only by chance he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth trying to destroy his kind.

9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must go on the offensive to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them. Be sure to click through for the large versions of these photos.

9, from Focus Features and featuring the voices of Elijah Wood, Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau, John C. Reilly and Jennifer Connelly, hits theaters next week on September 9.

Create Your Own ’9′ Talisman

by Joe Gillis, Aug 17 2009 // 2:30 PM

9-final-poster-small1If you’re looking forward to Shane Acker’s upcoming film 9 as much as we are, then you’ve probably already seen the cool website, the posters, clips and other ways the filmmakers are getting the word out about the movie around the Internets. And now there’s a new way you can experience and join in all the 9 adventure yourself — and maybe even help make a bit of history along the way. How is this possible? Read on to find out.

The Talisman is a key component in the story of the movie 9 and is a device integral to the film’s “Stitchpunk” characters. Now you can create your own Talisman to share your pictures and thoughts with friends. To make this happen, check out the film’s website and “dive into the World of the Talisman” Once on the site, user pics from around the world can be viewed in an “infinite zooming” gallery.

You can then “create your Personal Talisman by uploading your own photos, which can then be shared via email, blogs or social networks. Once you upload your Talisman, your memories will be preserved forever.” After you’ve created your Talisman, the site will give you a personalized URL that you can share with friends. There’s also a widget version of this you can stick on your profile at MySpace, Facebook or the social networking site of your choice. Cool, right?

9, which features the voice talents of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau and Jennifer Connelly, hits theaters on 9.9.09.

Interview: Timur Bekmambetov Talks ‘Wanted 2′

by Chris Ullrich, Aug 3 2009 // 8:15 AM

timur-bekmambetov-sdcc09Director Timur Bekmambetov has found great success in both his own country and the U.S. His films, Nightwatch, Daywatch and Wanted show a decided flair for the dramatic and an aesthetic that’s both pleasing to the eye and filled with exceptional inventive style. He also knows his way around an action scene and isn’t afraid to get his characters into some tense, unusual and often deadly situations.

Recently, I had a chance to chat with Bekmambetov about several topics during Comic-Con in San Diego including the upcoming film 9, what’s going on with Wanted 2 and if he plans to bring Angelina Jolie’s character Fox back from the dead.

Check out part of that interview, where we walk Wanted 2, after the jump. Also, be sure to check back right here for the rest of the interview where we walk all about Shane Acker’s 9 and what movie Bekmambetov consider his ultimate dream project.

Brand New Clip from ’9′ Released

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 16 2009 // 7:29 PM

9-poster-monsterWho says there’s nothing good to watch tonight? Well don’t worry, we’ve got you covered — at least for a few minutes — with this brand new clip from the highly anticipated film 9, directed by Shane Acker and Exec. Produced by Timur Bekmambetov and Tim Burton.

In this new clip, we’re treated to a pretty cool scene where the Stitchpunk Beings are being attacked by “The Winged Beast” which, by the looks of it, is something you really don’t want to be attacked by. Before you take a look at the clip and just in case you’re not familiar with the film, it concerns the character 9, who finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone.

I don’t know about you, but I think that sounds (and so far looks) pretty awesome. 9, which features the voices of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennfer Connelly, Martin Landau and Crispin Glover, hits theaters on 9.9.09. Check out this cool new clip from the film after the jump.

New Character Posters for ’9′

by Matt Raub, Jul 6 2009 // 2:00 PM

9While the summer blockbusters are still going strong, there’s one film that just misses the “summer” requirement but is still making a name for itself. The film is Shane Acker’s 9, which is based on his award-winning animated short from a few years back, and is produced by Tim Burton. The film is out this September and the marketing team has just released a series of character posters, showing off the animated cast of the film.

In the film, a group of numbered “people” are given the task of saving a post-apocalyptic world from destruction of giant robotic creatures. If you’re thinking “this sounds like every other movie out this summer”, then you should watch the original short that the film will be based on, because it’s got just enough of the Tim Burton fantasy-feel to make it a great movie.

The new posters show off the pretty big ensemble cast, with Christopher Plummer playing 1, Martin Landau as 2, John C. Reilly as 5, Crispen Glover as 6, Jennifer Connoly as 7 and Elijah Wood as the main character 9. Check out the character posters after the jump. 9 hits theaters September 9th.

’9′ Gets a New Website

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 15 2009 // 4:29 PM

9-final-poster-small1As we’ve said before here at The Flickcast, we’re very interested in the upcoming animated film 9, directed by Tim Burton protege’ Shane Acker and Exec. Produced by Burton and director Timur Bekmabetov. From what we’ve seen so far it, combines all of our favorite genres: sci-fi, drama, suspense and action to form what could be one of the most interesting and original films released this year.

In the past, we’ve been able to bring you some details about the film, including the very first poster. Now, we’re pleased to let you know that the film has a new website where you can get even more information and hopefully becomes as interested in the film as we are. This new site differs from the current one devoted to the film over at Focus Features in that it provides glimpses into the minds of the characters and the scientist who created them. Its a very cool way to learn more about the film, the story and its characters.

9 features the voices of Ellijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly and Christopher Plummer as the rag-tag band of living, fighting toys who take up arms after the world of humans is destroyed. 9 hits theaters on September 9th.

Before that, be sure to check out the new website. Also, because we can, you can also take a look at the trailer for the film after the break.
