With all the hype over the recent announcement that the iPhone is coming to Verizon, it’s nice to see at least one show offering a sober and reasoned commentary on the event. That show is, of course, The Daily Show with John Stewart. In a seven-minute spot that gets funnier by the minute, Stewart begins with iPhone users’ (including himself) troubles with AT&T.
”For the past three or four years, those of us in the iPhone community have sacrificed one thing for the ability to carry around every photograph we’ve ever taken, or song we’ve ever listened to, or home video, or compass,” Stewart said during the segment. “We have sacrificed the ability to make phone calls.”
It was supposedly so bad for Stewart that he had to send text messages by typing them out on his iPhone 4 and then having an assistant bring the phone to the message’s recipient so they could read it. John Oliver then joins in, reporting live via video chat from yesterday’s Verizon event using his AT&T iPhone. As you might expect, the quality is bad and the video call drops several times.
There’s a lot more in the video that you will enjoy, even if you’re not really caught up in the whole Verizon iPhone thing as many of us are. Funny is still funny.
Check out the video after the jump.

All week long, we’ve been bringing you increasingly interesting videos and interviews with some of the cast of Adult Swim’s Children’s Hospital. Today, we’re bringing you the mother load, as we chat with the mastermind behind it all: Rob Corddry.
Most people know Rob from his work on The Daily Show, if not one of this year’s funnier films, Hot Tub Time Machine. We discussed the possibility of a sequel to this year’s popular comedy, and what it would take to get him back in the same role.
Not only did Corddry create, write, and direct all of Children’s Hospital, but he also plays the character Blake Downs, a direct blow to Robin William’s character in Patch Adams. We also chatted with him about his blatant disregard for Grey’s Anatomy when making his show, which can be seen as an obvious parody of the ABC hit.
Check out our full interview with Corddry after the jump and be sure to catch the all-new season of Children’s Hospital this Sunday, August 22nd, at 10:30PM on Adult Swim.

This Friday marks a big weekend for fans of both science fiction and comedy as Hot Tub Time Machine opens across the country. We’re going to be bringing you coverage and goodies from the film all week, starting today. We recently got the chance to sit down with one of the film’s stars, Rob Corddry, and he was able to talk to us about not only the film, but his interest in an upcoming comic book project.
The Flickcast: The world of science fiction can be a tricky, and certainly a contrived world. How was it for you, getting your head around a concept like Hot Tub Time Machine?
Rob Corddry: Well, we had a roundtable meeting when we first got brought on to the film. We were all sitting in a room at MGM. The writers, and the cast, and we were talking about time travel. We had to have spent 4 or 5 hours talking about the logic of time travel as it was in the movie.
We couldn’t really figure it out, and we realized that every time somebody makes a time travel movie, this discussion takes place, and nobody ever figures it out. [laughs] If anybody figures it out, they would essentially figure out time travel.
So we decided that we had to set some rules and stick to them. What we inevitably did was just pick the simplest ones so that we could get to the comedy.
TF: Do you think that the success of The Hangover laid a lot of ground for potential success of another buddy comedy like this one?

In news that should have happened months ago, it seems that Comedy Central’s nightly, satiric look at current events is finally getting upgraded to HD starting on January 4. Not only will these be the first episodes shot in HD, but they will be the first episodes of the year, and the century.
No word on how this upgrade will effect the format of the show, if at all, but we do know that both shows will continue to keep us laughing into the new year.
Most recently, both shows have been nominated for a WGA TV award, which will put them head-to-head (and we know what happened last time).
With both shows doing well in ratings, getting nominated for awards, and getting the boost to HD, it’s no doubt that variety, or more specifically “comedy”, programming is still at it’s peak.
If you doubt that, you could always see Colbert rap with Alicia Keys in a spoof on “Empire State of MInd.”
