After Scribblenauts Unlimited came to the Wii U with a fairly soft launch, a lot of people wondered what might be next, if at all, for the series. Aside from new puzzles, what was there really left you could do for Scribblenauts that hadn’t already been done with the customizability of Scribblenauts Unlimited? I mean, it has “unlimited” in the title. The answer of course is rather fitting, a comic book crossover.
Whenever publishers in comics are in a sales dip, they crossover a more popular character into another series to give it a sales boost. But why stop at just a Batman Scribblenauts or a Scribblenauts Metropolis? WB Games and 5th Cell took the whole DC Universe and brought it over to the Scribblenauts world in Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure. In addition to giving the powers of various DC heroes and villains to Maxell, the trailer below indicates that players will be able to actually play as various DC characters in the game as well in the puzzle solving adventure.

Ever wonder what the attraction to Lobo as a character was? Aside from being an amalgam of various comic tropes and stereotypes, something about him ended up resonating to the point that thirty years since his inception, the anti-hero (who is pretty much just such a badass villain that people still like him) finds his way to the roster of Injustice: Gods Among Us as the first of four DLC characters.
For those who purchased the Season Pass, Lobo was announced on launch day for the game as the first member of the DLC roster. From the video below, he looks like a combination of fighting styles of some of the other brute characters like Solomon Grundy or Doomsday with the gunplay of Deathstroke. The trailer also gives a brief history of Lobo and the concept behind him, and how Lobo started out almost as a parody before taking on a life of his own.

After the long wait since first seeing glimpses at San Diego Comic-Con last Summer, Injustice: Gods Among Us arrived last week. After all the hype behind it with its roster of heroes and villains facing off against each other in a Mortal Kombat style fighting engine, “What could go wrong?” we pondered. Famous last words right? Well, luckily the team behind Injustice: Gods Among Us at NetherRealm Studios pulled through and gave the best DC fighting experience to date that could possibly rival that of the Marvel vs. Capcom series.
The Long
On the surface, there is a huge appeal to seeing who could win in a fight between Batman and Superman. Comic fans won’t deny that but to create a successful fighter, NetherRealm couldn’t play by traditional comic book rules. While Superman and Batman may be on a level playing field in a comic setting where brain matters as much as brawn, no one is ever going to believe that the Green Arrow can beat up Superman or Doomsday… like ever (sorry Arrow fans). So while the appeal of the game is the premise, it is the nuts and bolts under the hood of Injustice: Gods Among Us that make it a solid fighter.

Back in February we revealed that the leader of the Yellow Lanterns, a.k.a. the Sinestro Corps, would be taking one of the roster spots in Injustice: Gods Among Us to act as the opposition to Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern. It only made sense with NetherRealm Studios working on the game that you’d need a yellow Scorpion to counteract the emerald Sub-Zero.
So it ended up being a huge surprise when yesterday a new video emerged that shed some light into Hal Jordan’s story when he saw… himself.
In the latest trailer released this week, check out Hal Jordan vs. Hal Jordan as the man who has found himself at one point a member of pretty much every Corps wearing both the green and yellow as he takes on himself. As you’ll see from the trailer though, this isn’t just a reskin for a fantasty match. This looks to take place within Hal’s actual story during Injustice: Gods Among Us as both Hal and his Justice League compatriots react to what is happening.
This just adds to the already interesting mythos that is being associated with the game as it sees both Superman and Lex Luthor on the same side and a clone of Hal Jordan attacking himself.
Check out the full trailer after the jump.

Well one thing you have always got to give DC credit for is they are willing to give everything a shot with their gaming properties. From action titles like Superman 64 and Aquaman (which let’s be honest meant that they could only go up from there) to DC Universe Online and the upcoming Injustice: Gods Among Us, they seem to have no problem trying to figure out which genre their games fit into best. Now, less than a month before the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us, they have announced that they are stepping into the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena with Infinite Crisis for the PC.
As you’ll see in the trailer below, Infinite Crisis isn’t your ordinary DC game. With alternate worlds and the ability to control both heroes and villains, Infinite Crisis is going to lend itself to some creative matchups and hopefully and even more creative art style. Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Zatanna and alternate versions of themselves will face off against the likes of the Joker, Doomsday, Poison Ivy and their dopplegangers in a five on five MOBA style game. I mean, it was a good fit for Lord of the Rings so why not have DC make a go at it as well?

After NetherRealm’s success with their DLC packs for Mortal Kombat, its no surprise that they are already planning out the DLC for their upcoming Injustice: Gods Among Us. And what better way to distribute DLC than with a season pass. It was announced yesterday that the season pass for Injustice: Gods Among Us will include four new characters and a special exclusive costume pack.
Also announced as a member of the Injustice roster, who you can check out in the trailer below, is Raven. Most well known for her role in founding the New Teen Titans. Adding another female to the roster, Raven’s mythical powers give her distinct advantages against even powerhouses like Superman. She will also have the opportunity to face off against former teammates like Nightwing and Cyborg.

There’s really something to be said for the ingenuity and personality behind Lex Luthor. When a man of nearly undefeatable power made his presence known, Luthor’s xenophobia made him stand up and throw everything he could to topple the Man of Steel. But the second he finds out that Superman’s safety switch has been turned off, he swaps to the other side.
In the latest trailer for Injustice: Gods Among Us, we see where Lex Luthor stands in the battle between heroes as Batman and Superman stand at opposing fronts for the freedoms of the DC Universe. The trailer also gives us some insight as to where other characters such as Hawkgirl fall as well.

With under two months to go before the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us, we are still getting insight into its roster. With the latest episode of Injustice Battle Arena which pits characters against each other with the fans voting who will come out on top, NetherRealm Studios has revealed two more members of the roster, Sinestro and Hawkgirl, bringing the total up to nineteen DC heroes and villains so far.
Sinestro appears in his Sinestro Corps uniform upping the villainous ranks of the roster. Giving a counter to Hal Jordan, Sinestro uses his yellow ring to bring the hurt. With powers similar to that of the Green Lantern, Sinestro’s ring grants him the ability to create constructs based off his own twisted imagination and ability to instill fear.

We’ve been keeping a keen eye on NetherRealm Studio’s followup to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe in Injustice: Gods Among Us (which still confounds us that no DC logo or brand name of any kind is in its title even now with the final box art). The latest news is that Injustice: Gods Among Us finally has a release date of April 16th, 2013 as well as two special editions.
The Collector’s Edition of Injustice: Gods Among Us will sell for $99.99 and will include a copy of the game, a digital download of the DC Animated Film Doom, a three pack of DLC costumes for Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman based off of their DC New 52 designs, an Injustice comic and a statue of Wonder Woman and Batman in combat exclusive to this collector’s pack.

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that Deathstroke would find his way into the new DC fighter from NetherRealm Studios (the team behind Mortal Kombat) entitled Injustice: Gods Among Us. While it is still strange that they have yet to put DC anywhere in the title of the game, it does make sense that they would choose to add DC’s top anti-hero to their roster.
In the trailer below, you’ll see how Deathstroke’s personal arsenal of weaponry and fighting techniques lend themselves perfectly to the fighting game genre. Between his array of fighting styles and seemingly unending supply of guns and swords, this mercenary is ready for MK style combat. This also isn’t Deathstroke’s first fighting game appearance as he made his video game debut in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe as the DC counterpart to Baraka.

One aspect of LEGO games that has always stood out was the central hub location where players would go in and out of missions. Originally, this was a small location of only a few rooms that chapters could be explored by entering. This was the primary setup for LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Indiana Jones. More recently, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes changed this format with an open world Gotham for players to traverse and go into story missions when they saw fit. Now, Traveler’s Tales needs to switch up for the format again for LEGO The Lord of the Rings.
While it made sense in LEGO Batman’s world for the caped crusader to be able to travel around Gotham at his whim, that just isn’t the case with the tighter narrative that needs to be told during The Lord of the Rings. Even in LEGO format, The Lord of the Rings needs to have a clear beginning and ending location that players can’t just skip to. As anyone who has watched, or especially read The Lord of the Rings, it isn’t the destination that mattered to the story as much as it was the journey that got the heroes there.

One of the most intimidating prospects for a game developer may be the chance to work on a franchise they grew up loving. There is so much pressure put on themselves to uphold the high standards they set because they don’t want to let down themselves, other fans or the creators of it. But it also gives great opportunity for talented teams to make something special that can stand alongside other creative works associated with that franchise. Traveler’s Tales is one of those teams that has shown both love and respect for everything from Star Wars to Harry Potter in the LEGO universe and are undertaking the formidable legacy of The Lord of the Rings in their next game.
When you look at LEGO The Lord of the Rings at first, what you may notice first is the world going on behind the characters. There is a blend of both picturesque landscape combined with scenics from the films created out of LEGO. Much like they did with LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, LEGO The Lord of the Rings will have a large open world format with side quests for players to take part in instead of just following the story of the game.

This past week, gaming was abound with announcements at the Tokyo Game Show. The biggest announcement for both gamers and comic book fans was that Injustice: Gods Among Us is set to release in April of 2013. This means we will be getting Injustice well before Comic Con next summer (which sadly means no repeat of this summer’s Injustice party featuring Jessica Nigri). Injustice: Gods Among Us is the Netherreal Studios fighting game (the guys who made Mortal Kombat) being published by WB Games for those who haven’t been following.
Along with the announcement of Injustice’s release date, a new gameplay trailer was shown as well. In the trailer, we catch a glimpse at some new seriously brutal moves. Everything from Wonder Woman calling in some Amazonian assistance to Nightwing using a motorcycle to aid in his beat down, the move sets look like they have been given a serious upgrade since these characters appeared in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. What we can’t tell though because this gameplay footage doesn’t offer any context is if these are standard special moves or if these will be end of match moves, since fatalities won’t exist in this gaming universe. If these are those big finale moves though, there look to be some awesome minds working on the game to take the personalities of these characters and create such inspired scenes from them.
Take a look at the trailer and new screens below for Injustice: Gods Among Us, set for release in April 2013 for the XBox 360, Wii U and PlayStation 3. In the comments, let us know who else you want to see join the cast of Injustice: Gods Among Us and what kind of brutal finisher you want them to have.

If you are on The Flickcast, you already know the story. A band of mismatched heroes takes an impossible journey to escort the smallest of men to the most dangerous of locales all to destroy a ring that could destroy them all. How do you improve on that ageless tale? Why, add LEGOs of course.
At Gamescom, WB Games revealed the latest trailer for LEGO The Lord of the Rings. Following in the tradition of LEGO Star Wars or LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO The Lord of the Rings will follow the events of the movies while adding in the quirky LEGO humor. In the tradition of LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, the game will also feature voice acting.
New to the LEGO brand though is having actual sound bites from the movie used in the game. While it hasn’t be revealed whether or not any new audio has been recorded for the game, it will be interesting to see how much Traveler’s Tales has fun with some of the most iconic scenes while using the current audio that so many of us have memorized at this point. The trailer below already gives a hint both at some of the epic scenes brought to life using LEGO as well as some of the lighthearted fun that the developers have had playing with some of the films’ memorable scenes.
Check out the full trailer after the break and keep it here for more on LEGO The Lord of the Rings set to come out this fall for Wii, Nintendo 3DS, PC, XBox 360 and PlayStation 3.

For those fighting and comic gamers that have been living under a rock since SDCC, the makers of Mortal Kombat are bringing the DC Universe back to the realm of fighters with Injustice: Gods Among Us. While its odd still that there is no DC branding in the title, Injustice places some of the most popular members of the DC roster against each other in a T rated fighting arena. Creative director Ed Boon promises to push that T rating as far as he can given the limitations put in place by DC and WB Games.
New to the cast along DC favorites like Batman, Superman and Harley Quinn is Catwoman. Between her longtime popularity amongst comic readers and the most recent role she placed in the Dark Knight Rises, it is almost a no brainer to put her in the game. Catwoman’s signature whip and claws are her main offense while she moves across the arena nimbly like an Olympic gymnast. Take a look at the full reveal trailer below to see Selena Kyle in action.
Story details are still pretty up in the air for Injustice. There is going to need to be some strong outside force influencing heroes to face off against each other, similar to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. They are also going to have to address the varied power levels of characters too. How is Superman going to get taken down by Batman just repeatedly punching him in the face? How is Solomon Grundy going to be able to even connect with a punch on the Flash? All of this will likely be addressed in the story to hopefully explain the gameplay balancing taking place.
