To some, nothing is scarier than spiders, unless you consider William Shatner’s career in the late 70’s (zing!). But there were a few exceptions and even Chris Pine can admit it’s pretty difficult to follow Shatner as James Tiberius Kirk. One film that Shatner did before throwing the maroon jumpsuit back on was a little film called Kingdom of the Spiders in which he takes down a legion of evil spiders.
Shatner played Dr Robert Hansen, who is sent to a small town after a serious of mysterious animal deaths, only to discover that it was only the beginning, and that an evil spider army was behind the whole thing. Finally, the film is making it’s way to DVD for all of us to relive, and we even have the original trailer for you to get excited for all over again.
Kingdom of Spiders was one of the first films involving evil spider kingdoms, which spawned such films as Arachnophobia with Jeff Daniels and Eight Legged Freaks with David Arquette. Special features on the DVD include an all new interview with Shatner, audio commentary by Director John Bud Cardos, Producer Igor Kantor, spider wrangler Jim Brockett and Cinematographer John Morrill. Also included is a Spider Wrangler featurette and rare behind the scenes footage.
Check out the full trailer after the jump, and grab the Special Edition DVD of Kingdom of the Spiders on January 19th, 2010.

A few months ago, legendary actor known for playing himself (and a certain starship Captain), William Shatner, made a special appearance on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien to read Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin’s resignation speech. It was pretty epic, and you can relive it over here.
Last night, Shatner returned to the show, this time to read the impossibly intelligent tweets of Levi Johnston, the 19 year old baby daddy to Palin’s granddaughter — a development that may have been one of the reasons why she and McCain lost the Presidential election. His tweets are pretty painful, but given his accidental celebrity status, that makes them all the more funny.
Shatner made sure that everybody knew just how poetic Johnston could be, in a tribute poem. Check out the video after the jump, and long live Shatner!

Last time on on The Flickcast, your favorite trio of talented talkers discussed a whole slew of topics including the proposed remake of An American Werewolf in London, the Watchmen Director’s Cut, Comic-Con in San Diego, changes to the number of Best Picture Oscar nominees and the death of Michael Jackson.
This week, Chris, Matt and Christina are back with a brand new episode and ready for action. Among the subjects covered this time around are the T.J. Hooker movie, the “Red Band” trailer for Jennifer’s Body featuring Megan Fox, rumors of a new, live-action Star Wars TV series, Katie Holmes’ appearance on So You Think You Can Dance? and much more!
The team also makes more picks this week including Christina’s pick of the Curtis Hanson film Wonder Boys, Matt’s pick of the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood and Chris’ pick of the 1987 vampire biker movie Near Dark, starring Heroes alumni Adrian Pasdar and directed by The Hurt Locker’s Katherine Bigelow.

According to Variety, the latest tv show to get the big screen treatment will be none other than the William Shatner mid-eighties police drama T.J. Hooker. No, that’s not a typo, I said T.J. Hooker. Is this another sign of the pending apocalypse or further proof that Hollywood has completely run out of original ideas? Perhaps both.
In case you were not a fan of the original series or its star William Shatner, the show centered on Shatner’s character, a no-nonsense police sergeant who, among other things, bossed around the young and beautiful Heather Locklear, the young and hunky Adrian Zmed and occasionally caught some bad guys in the process. Producing the action comedy will be David Foster, Ryan Heppe and series creator Rick Husky.
According to the article, producer Heppe is gung-ho about the adaptation saying: “The series was the poster child for cop TV shows in the 1980s with great stunts, so we think there’s a fun movie to be made from it.” Chuck Russell, whose previous work includes The Mask and the less-than-stellar Eraser, is in talks to direct. Writers Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson are handling the scrip, which reportedly focuses on the relationship between the title character and his father.
I know reboots and remakes are here to stay, but I have to wonder if this film really needs to be made? Although, if the story stays consistent with the description here and the movie ends up going forward, I see a great opportunity for the roles of T.J. Hooker senior and junior to go to William Shatner and Chris Pine. Come on, you would totally see that movie.

We love William Shatner here at The Flickcast. For some of us, he was our first exposure to Star Trek and helped us discover a love for Sci-Fi that endures to this day. He will always be the first Captain of the Enterprise to us. Of course, he’s gone on to play many other roles from a cop in T.J. Hooker to his multi-Emmy winning role as Denny Crane in Boston Legal. He’s also an accomplished author and talk show host.
Over the years he’s entertained us and showed us what a versatile guy he really is. And in spite of his occasionally stylized acting, he’s always managed to make us interested and keep us watching no matter what he does. Most recently, Shatner made an appearance on The Tonight Show to help celebrate Conan O’Brian taking over from Jay Leno. And of course, we have video.
I’ll say this about William Shatner: he’s never boring — even when he’s talking about camping. Check out the video after the break.
