Uncover the Secrets of Suresh’s Work On ‘Heroes’

by Joe Gillis, Nov 5 2009 // 8:00 AM

suresh and sonIf you watched Monday’s episode of Heroes, which was a pretty good one, you know that it featured Mohinder Suresh’s (Sendhil Ramamurthy) long-awaited return to the show. But the question still remains: What is Samuel’s plan for him and why is Hiro so annoying now? Well, that first one is a real question anyway. Hiro isn’t that annoying.

While you ponder those question, we’ve got a bunch of clips for you that will potentially help you discover some of the answers about Suresh, Smauel, Hiro and the mysterious past and origins of all your favorite characters. These clips feature Mohinder’s father, Chandra Suresh, at Coyote Sands research camp. He was doing research at the camp, you may remember, during last season’s episode “1961″ and what he is doing there may hold the key to mysteries only hinted at until now.

Watch the videos after the jump and see if you can decipher Chandra’s work and discoveries. Heroes is on Tuesday nights at 8/7C on NBC.

First Look at James Marsters In ‘Caprica’

by Chris Ullrich, Nov 5 2009 // 7:00 AM

James-Marsters-CapricaOver at the blog run by the network formerly known as Sci-Fi, they have a new trailer for the upcoming series Caprica featuring a glimpse, albeit a brief one, of James Marsters in character as terrorist leader Barnabus Greeley. Not sure I’m in love with that name yet, sorry Jane.

Anyway, this is one of those situations where if you blink, look away or sneeze, you will miss Marsters’ appearance. Still, its kinda cool to seem him and know that the premiere of Caprica is only a short two months (or so) away. Plus, his “Someone’s dying today” line is also pretty darn cool. Also, there’s some other stuff in the trailer that’s worth watching so do, please, watch it — after the ever-present jump of course.

Caprica, featuring the cool James Marsters as well as Eric Stolz, Esai Morales, Sasha Roiz, Polly Walker and Paula Malcomson, premieres on the SyFy network on January 22nd of next year.

Parallels Desktop for Mac Updated to Version 5.0

by Joe Gillis, Nov 4 2009 // 3:15 PM

parallels5In the interest of being fair, we bring you news of an update to the other really good Windows virtualization software for the Mac: Parallels Desktop. Much like VMware, this software allows you to, gasp, run Windows in a , well, a window on your Intel Mac running OS X. Here’s all you need to know about this update.

This latest version of Parallels features Snow Leopard compatibility, Windows 7 support, full support for Aero, including Flip 3D in Windows Vista and 7, OpenGL 2.1 and a bunch of other new or improved features. You aren’t limited to Windows, actually, as Parallels also adds support for other operating systems like Linux.

Parallels 5.0 is a free upgrade for those who purchased version 4 on October 1st, 2009 or later. Others will have to pay U.S. $49.99 to upgrade, or U.S. $79.99 for a new license. Parallels is also offering a crossgrade licensing option to VMware Fusion 2 users. If you have a license key for Fusion 2, you can get Parallels 5.0 for the same U.S. $49.99 upgrade fee as existing Parallels customers.

Black Panther Video and New ‘Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2′ Alternate Costumes

by Matt Raub, Nov 4 2009 // 2:15 PM

black-panther-mua-1Now that we are aware that Carnage, Cable, and Psylocke are all apart of the downloadable character pack for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and we know the cost and release date, here’s a brand new character to add to that list. Welcome Black Panther, King of the Wakanda Jungle, to the game as a playable character.

Panther is 4 of the 5 alleged add-ons proposed for the game (not including Juggernaut), and will be an interesting addition to the game’s dynamic, especially fighting alongside his in-comic wife, Storm. Magneto is rumored to be the final member to be added to the game, but we’re still waiting for confirmation on that.

Along with the launch video for Black Panther, you can also check out the first images of the alternate costumes for Psylocke, Carnage, and Cable. They are all pretty straightforward, with Cable’s “modern-day” look being the coolest.

Check out all of the images and the launch video after the jump.

That’s just one of the great things about the Internets: lots of cool stuff floating out there. Case in point is this photo discovered by Kottie and shard with his Twitter followers.

That’s where we found it and now, we’re bringing it to you. Don’t say we never gave you anything.

In case you can’t tell, that’s a photo of Carrie Fisher and her stunt double taking a break on the set of Return of the Jedi. And yes, they’re both wearing everyone’s favorite slave bikini outfit.

We’ll just let that one soak in for a few minutes. Really, what else is there left to say except be sure to take a look at the larger photo after the jump and enjoy? Oh, and it may be time to watch Return of the Jedi again.

Just sayin’.

Release Date and Price for ‘Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2′ Downloadable Characters

by Matt Raub, Nov 4 2009 // 11:15 AM

marvel_ultimate_alliance_2After a few weeks of drooling, the developers of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 have finally given us a release date and price of their newest dowloadable character pack, including Psylocke, Carnage, Cable, Black Panther, and Magneto. The good news is that Xbox Live owners will get the pack this Thursday (November 5th), and the bad news is that gamers on the PlayStation Network have to wait until next week.

Though they haven’t announced yet that Magneto has been added to the pack, it was leaked a few weeks back when Psylocke and Carnage were first announced. The announcement for Black Panther came on Tuesday, and the alternate costumes for Cable, Psylocke and Carnage were released earlier this week as well.

Fans who worried about the price have nothing to stress about anymore, as the price has been announced as 800 Microsoft Points ($9.99 normally). This was the same price as the Hero and Villain Pack for the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance game back in 2007.

That price includes all five characters, new boosts, and brand-new simulator missions. Also available on that date, for the first time, is the Juggernaut downloadable character, which has only been available to fans who pre-ordered the game until now. You can also purchase Juggernaut for 160 Microsoft Points, or $1.99.

Of course, the guys also made some more great pics this week including John’s pick of the great new demo for Left for Dead 2, Matt’s pick of a very special episode of Batman: Brave and the Bold and Chris’ pick of the 1992 Oliver Stone movie Natural Born Killers.

As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques or offers of sponsorship, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter and at Facebook, MySpace or via email.

Co-Founder of San Diego Comic-Con Passes Away

by Joe Gillis, Nov 4 2009 // 9:00 AM

sheldon-dorfSad news to report today. Sheldon “Shel” Dorf, the man who co-founded the now world famous San Diego Comic-Con International, died Tuesday from complications related to diabetes. He was 76.

Dorf moved to San Diego from his native Detroit in 1970, the same year he founded Comic-Con. He spent the next 15 years as a leader of the annual convention, which promotes comics and pop culture such as movies and TV shows.

“The guy just lived and breathed comics his whole life,” Mark Evanier, a TV and comic book writer, told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “The Con was built on his passion and his cheerleading.”

The first Comic-Con was called the Golden State Comic-Con and was held at the U.S. Grant Hotel. Today, the event draws 125,000 attendees annually to the San Diego Convention Center. In a 2006 interview, Dorf told the San Diego Union-Tribune he had no idea Comic-Con would ever grow into what it is today, the largest convention held in San Diego and one of the largest pop culture events in the world.

Dorf is survived by his brother. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Home of Peace cemetery, 3668 Imperial Ave. San Diego, CA.

Comedy Central Orders Nick Swardson Sketch Show

by Sebastian Suchecki, Nov 4 2009 // 8:00 AM

nick-swardsonComedy Central seems to be pretty hungry for comedian-run sketch shows lately. They recently premiered the pilot of The Jeff Dunham Show to lukewarm reception, and another show starring Gabriel Iglesias and Bill Engvall is on the way. Earlier this week, yet another show was announced, in the form of a pilot for a show starring comedian Nick Swardson.

Swardson has made his way around the stand up circuit for years now, but most people will remember him from his supporting roles in Grandma’s Boy, Benchwarmers, and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan (he must be liked by the Sandler camp).

The network is apparently more than happy to add Swardson’s creativity to the growing camp of Comedy Central’s original programming. From The Hollywood Reporter:

“We love Nick at Comedy Central and even more importantly, our audience loves Nick,” said Comedy Central programming president Lauren Corrao.  “We’ve seen it in his movies, his stand-up, with his ‘Reno 911!’ character ‘Terry,’ and in the work he’s done developing Gay Robot.  We can’t wait to expand his creative voice into a sketch series.”

The series will include digital shorts, man-on-the-street segments and animation inspired by Swardson’s online character, “Gay Robot” (about a gay robot and his frat boy friends).

The show is set to go into production next month and premiere early next year. Until then, you can catch Swardson in the upcoming Adam Sandler comedy, Born To Be A Star, about an actor who moves to Los Angeles to pursue his destiny in porn.

First Trailer for ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’

by Matt Raub, Nov 4 2009 // 7:00 AM

Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton in PRINCE OF PERSIAWe’ve been trying to cover the brand new Disney epic from the creators of the Pirates of The Carribbean trilogy, with the little promotional material that the studio has already released. That seems to have changed in the past few days, as the first trailer for the film has finally hit the ‘net.

The film, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Star Trek’s Gemma Aterton, is based on the classic action/adventure video game about a A rogue prince who reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess and together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time—a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

The film is directed by Mike Newell, director of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and also stars Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. Check out the first full trailer, thanks to our friends at Trailer Addict, after the jump. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time hits theaters May 28th, 2010.
