Recently, news was traveling around the Internets that the new ‘Bond’ film was being put on hold due to the financial woes of MGM, there is now news that Sam Mendes – the director of American Beauty, Road to Perdition, and Revolutionary Road – is signing up to direct the still untitled movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is now being fast tracked, despite the issues with the movie studio.
Sam Mendes, whose closest action film effort has to be either Jarhead, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and Road to Perdition, starring Tom Hanks and current ‘James Bond’ Daniel Craig, has been a celebrated director since his debut with 1999′s American Beauty. Bond 23, which is being written by Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) and ‘Bond’ series writers, Neil Purvis and Robert Wade is currently scheduled for filming sometime this year, with a hopeful release date of 2011.

With Cameron’s Avatar raking in over $1 Billion, and just about every big-budget film coming out in the next year getting the “3D treatment”, it only makes sense that three large companies would decide to partner up so that America would have that technology in their homes, 24/7.
It looks like that’s exactly the case here, as Sony, IMAX, and Discovery announced this morning that they will be developing a 24 hour channel that will broadcast in high-quality 3D. From the New York Times:
Discovery Communications, which operates the Discovery Channel, TLC and other cable channels, will distribute the channel, which has a 2011 start date. It is expected to showcase a mix of 3-D content, including entertainment and sports. It will also show some of the natural history programming for which Discovery is well known.

We’ve already talked about January being a big month for Fox with Human Target starting up in a few weeks, and American Idol following shortly thereafter. One huge factor in Fox’s potential ratings success this season will be the return of 24 for it’s eighth and possibly final season.
This season takes place in New York City, which is a first, with Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) just about to get cozy for a life of retirement. Just as that happens, he gets a new mission dropped in his lap, with very little room to continue his life of leisure.
This season promises to have exciting new character archs, including new cast members Freddie Prinze Jr. and Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica). A few new surprises, and plenty of Jack Bauer beating up on terrorists.
Check out an all-new behind the scenes featurette on the new season after the jump, and be sure to catch the season premiere of 24 on Sunday, January 17th.

In news for a film that could be considered dead in the water already, the site and online marketing campaign for Universal’s upcoming The Wolfman has gone live. The film has been bounced around more times than the Watchmen property back in the mid 90′s, and doesn’t look like it’s for the better.
Production began back in 2006 (which is now nearly 4 years ago) when Universal announced that Benicio Del Toro would be taking on the titular role. A year later, a list of names that included Mark Romenek, Brett Ratner, Frank Darabont, and Martin Campbell were at one point attached to the project, all falling off and leaving way for Joe Johnston (Jumanji, The Rocketeer) to take the helm in early 2008.
From there, the project was bumped from it’s original release date twice, due to reshoots and tweaks, with a final release date of February 12, 2010. The site includes some nice features, including Twitter integration, a full moon calendar, and an interesting history of Universal Monsters.
Check out the site, and be prepared for the film (and supposed Universal attraction to follow) hitting theaters on February 12.

On the heels of the news that Pierre Morel will be taking on the remake of Dune, is the second trailer for his next upcoming action flick, From Paris With Love. The film stars John Travolta as FBI Super-Agent Charlie Wax, who gets teamed up with an unsuspecting partner, who’s far from a field agent, James Reece (Jonathan Rhys Meyers).
The film looks like a bit of Casino Royale meets any buddy cop film from the late 80s. With Taken and District B13‘s Morel taking the helm and The Trasporter films writer Luc Besson taking on the script, you can bet that this film will be full of nonstop action. The only question remains; can Travolta pull off Parkour?
Check out the trailer after the jump, and decide for yourself. From Paris With Love hits theaters on February 5th worldwide.

Fox has got quite a big month ahead of them. Between the return of 24 and American Idol, those shows alone should make the network a number one contender for ratings this spring. They also may be getting some help from a new show based on, of all things, a comic book.
The new series in question is Human Target starring Mark Valley (Boston Legal), Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies), and Jackie Earl Haley (Watchmen). It’s based on the DC Comics character, who assumes the identity of potential assassination victims and takes out their would-be killers before they get the chance to off their target.
The series is making quite a lot of noise among the TV and comic community, and all of that noise seems to be positive. With director Simon West (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) at the helm and composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galacitca) doing the score, this could turn out to be an amazing project or a colossal flop.
Either way, we’ve got a few clips to get you excited for the pilot, which airs on Sunday, January 17th opposite the Golden Globes (not smart). The pilot even guest stars fan favorite Tricia Helfer, which should get some fanboys interested.
Check out the clips after the jump.

It’s been reported by Entertainment Weekly, that Pierre Morel – director of last year’s Taken, and the fun, French Parkour film, District B13, has signed on to direct the new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. The movie, which was originally to be helmed by Peter Berg, kind of fell to the wayside when Berg seemed to become more interested in the (clearly higher quality) property of Battleship: The Movie. The good news is that this means Dune could get many more scenes of throat-punching.
Paramount, the studio backing the new film, is also supposedly looking for a new writer to work on incorporating the sensibilities of the French director. Morel is apparently is looking to make a much closer adaptation than the previous version of the script by Quantum of Solace screenwriter, Josh Zetumer. In case you’re not familiar, Dune is the story of Paul Atreides, and the futuristic inter-galactic feudal system involving his family’s rule of the desert planet Arrakis.
The story explores the politics, religion, technology and ecology of it’s incredible in-depth universe. The book was previously made into a movie in 1984 by David Lynch, and been brought to television through a couple of mini-series on the Sci-Fi Channel.

With the final season of ABC’s LOST coming up in less than a month, it’s only expected that we will see a lot more viral marketing from the camp that brought us the marketing beast Cloverfield. With that in mind comes a brand new set of promotional images for the upcoming season, portraying the cast in a classic “Last Supper” scenario.
In it, we get the final cast of characters for this upcoming set of episodes, with Locke (Terry O’Quinn) seemingly at the center of it all. There are supposedly clues all around both images, that could lead us to various conclusions and conspiracies for the upcoming season, so take a close look at each one.
This isn’t the first time that TV land has done something like this. In fact, this is the third time that this exact technique has been used. First, done for the final season of The Sopranos with Tony at the center. And once again for the final season of Battlestar Galactica, with Six as the main focus.
Take that as you will, but if this trend continues, does this mean that we’ll be getting an office version of How I Met Your Mother or Glee at some point?
Check out the full images after the jump, and let us know if you catch any clues we missed!

Captain America is finally available to watch for free! This 1990 low-budget adaptation of the “All American” superhero is now available for online viewing via Hulu. If for nothing else, watch it for the amazing performances by slumming actors Ned Beatty and Ronnie Cox.
The film stars Matt Salinger (son of famed writer J.D. Sallinger), who has been on shows ranging from Damages to Law & Order, in the titular role. Sallinger’s Steve Rogers actually followed pretty closely the original comic story of a young man who is given a super soldier serum and turned into, well…a super soldier for the Allied powers during WWII.
On a mission that leads to him being stuck on a fired missile, he’s seen by two young kids who just so happen to one day grow up to become President and an adviser. He then gets stuck in ice for the 40 years, until one day he’s freed and given the chance to defeat the Red Skull, who in this movie is an Italian experimental reject – sort of like The Abomination to Bruce Banner’s Hulk.
It’s laughably bad, with bright blue spandex, fake rubber wings, and some really awful action choreography. With that said, if you’re up for the torture or just in anticipation of Joe Johnston’s upcoming (and hopefully better) adaptation, The First Avenger: Captain America, this will do the trick. If you don’t believe us, take a look at a clip from the film after the jump.

While the name does sound pretty imaginary, the character is quite real, and will be voiced by an even more real actor, Timothy Dalton. Fresh from playing the big bad in the Christmas Special of BBC’s Doctor Who, Dalton will be taking on one of his most difficult roles yet: a porcupine in lederhosen named Mr. Pricklepants.
We’ve already gotten a glimpse at the very first trailer, as well as an extended clip from the film. Now we get a new special preview, with words from director Lee Unkrich. In the film, the story picks up years later, as Andy is getting ready to move to college. He makes the decision to get rid of his toys by donating them to a daycare. From there we get to see what kind of a nightmare toddlers can be from the perspective of toys.
Check out the featurette after the jump, be sure to catch more previews of brand new characters as they come our way. All getting you ready for Toy Story 3 in theaters and IMAX on June 18th.

While most of the “best of 2009″ lists are petering off in the new year, there are still a few statistics still rolling in. One being the most-illegally-downloaded TV program of the year, which also happens to be one of the least popular. NBC’s Heroes has been on the bubble since last year, which is why the network only ordered half of a season for this year, and will be spreading the episodes out until Spring sweeps.
With that in mind, it would be considered that fans wouldn’t be rushing to their torrent sites or DVD stores to catch up on the super-powered drama, seeing as how they didn’t give it enough of a chance when it was on the air in the past. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that’s just what they’re doing.
“This year, the buzz is that the show may be on the verge of cancellation thanks to dwindling ratings (it averages about 6 million viewers a week, down from nearly 14 million when the show first premiered in 2006).
