Just when you thought Christmas was coming to an end in a few weeks, it looks like a few elves over at Anchor Bay have a surprise in store for us on March 15, as the SyFy Channel original hit film Sharktopus is getting an official release on Blu-ray and DVD.
That’s right, you get to relive those classic moments of the Sharktopus destroying landmarks, devouring sea-bound travelers, and running amok all over again in glorious 72op. From the producing team of Roger and Julie Corman, the film is the cherry on top of Corman’s ice cream Sunday of a B-movie career, becoming the highest rated SyFy original film in the channel’s history with over 2.5 million viewers back in September.
For those of you who missed it, here’s the official synopsis.
An eight-tentacled nightmare hybrid of shark and octopus, “S-11” was created by genetic scientist Nathan Sands (Eric Roberts) as the U.S. Navy’s next super-weapon. But when its control implants are damaged during a training experiment off the Mexican coast, the beast escapes to Puerto Vallarta to sample the local fare — bikini babes, jet-skiers, and spring-breakers.

While many people consider Jon Favreau to Marvel much like Chris Nolan is to Warner Bros and DC Entertainment, not everyone knows that there were plenty of problems between Favreau and the studio when they wanted him to return for Iron Man 2.
Of course, Favreau finished the film, and made a mint doing so (as did the studio) but it looks like the tension may be happening again between the director and his films’ home. MTV News got first hint at there being a problem with with Marvel and the Swingers director when Favreau expressed concerns about future Marvel properties.
“In theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers. That whole world … I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”
It was later tweeted out by Favreau that he’s officially going to work on Magical Kingdom for Disney and step down as the director of Iron Man 3. The irony here being that Disney owns Marvel, so it’s basically like leaving one room of a big house to go into another.
So this begs the question: who will take over for Favreau? With Marvel wanting Iron Man 3 to continue the Avengers storyline, could this mean that Avengers director and fanboy extraordinaire Joss Whedon will take on the challenge?
Marvel has yet to release a statement, but you can believe they have a shortlist ready for just the press release.

We all remember the scoffs Universal got when news hit that they were doing a fourth sequel to the Fast and the Furious franchise, but when the film opened to an astounding $70 million in the first weekend, the only people laughing were at the studio. So why wouldn’t they continue that trend with another film?
So here it is, the fifth film in the series, titled simply Fast Five. Worry not, fans won’t get another Tokyo Drift, as Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, and a bunch of the originals are all returning. Here’s the breakdown of the film.
Since Brian (Walker) and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) broke Dom out of custody, they’ve blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to gain their freedom. As they assemble their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for good means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he’s not the only one on their tail. Hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) never misses his target. When he is assigned to track down Dom (Diesel) and Brian, he and his strike team launch an all-out assault to capture them. But as his men tear through Brazil, Hobbs learns he can’t separate the good guys from the bad. Now, he must rely on his instincts to corner his prey…before someone else runs them down first.
The flick is set to hit on April 29th, and you can check out the full trailer after the jump.

When it first arrived on the scene many people probably scoffed at the iPhone and iPod touch as unsuitable gaming platforms. After all, what can you do, graphics-wise, on the devices to make gaming worthwhile? Well, I’m happy to report that you can, at least in the hands of the folks at Epic Games, do quite a bit.
Since its debut on December 9th, Epic Games’ game Infinity Blade has grossed over $1.6 Million. Based on data from Apple’s Game Center, there were over 271,000 different users who played the game as of Sunday night.
Now here’s the math part, sorry if it hurts your heads. Infinity Blade costs $5.99 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, which means the title grossed well over $1.6 Million in that short time span. Quite a success for the team at Epic.
Infinity Blade is the first Unreal Engine 3-based iOS game and, along with titles like Rage HD (Which also rocks, btw), it is helping to change the perception that the iPhone, iPad and such are not “real” gaming platforms. Lets hope the trend continues.

Conan has been on fire since his debut on TBS a little over a month ago. With A-list guests, top quality sketches, and the same level of energy that got us all to fall in love with him back on Late Night, Conan has absolutely taken over the late night airwaves again thanks to his funny pals at TBS.
Many know, but for those who don’t, Conan is shot on the Warner Bros. lot, which is where some of the best films and best DC Entertainment properties we’ve come to adore today.
Conan stopped by the DC animation studio to get down to a few classic (and classically bad) DC heroes and villains. Not only did he dig up some not-so-fashionable skeletons in DC’s closet, he even got animation guru Bruce Timm to draw a hero based on O’Brien himself.
Check out the full video after the jump, and catch Conan on TBS every weeknight at 11pm.

Let’s face it, there’s no good press coming out of the upcoming Warner Bros. live-action reboot of the classic Hannah Barbara cartoon Yogi Bear. Not even the Social Network-ing skills of Justin Timberlake or the comedic timing of Dan Aykroyd can help this film, as it was pretty much doomed from the get-go.
That was, however, until we saw a brand new alternate ending made by animator Edmund Earle and a few of his friends in their spare time. This is most definitely not made for the same audience that the film was made for, as it takes it’s cues from the ending of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
Earle and his cohorts want people to know that this has absolutely no association with Warner Brothers, the producers, or the talent involved in the Yogi Bear film. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t awesome.
Check out the full video after the jump and remember, no animated bears were harmed in the filming of this ending.

It’s been about five years since X-Men Legends II: The Rise of Apocalypse, the last true X-Men game, was released. Since that time, the band of merry mutants has only played second fiddle appearing in other Marvel titles. Now, Silicon Knights, with the writing of Mike Carey, will be tackling the X-Men saga.
In the new trailer below, there is the first reveal of gameplay footage as well as some better hints of the mutants who will actually be featured in the game. These look to be Cyclops, Emma Frost, Quicksilver, Pyro, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Magneto and Surge. The final three look to be the possible characters players can play as.
In the trailer, the first actual gameplay footage is shown very briefly with a young mutant covered in tattoos facing off against a large mutated freak. This could be a reveal that Ink of Young X-Men may be one of the characters playable in the game.
Check back right here for more on X-Men: Destiny as it becomes available.

The King’s Speech leads the pack with a total of seven nominations, followed by The Social Network and The Fighter with six noms each.
Glee led the television nominees with five nods. We’ll have some analysis of the nominations later, but at first glance it is a bit shocking to see True Grit completely shut out of the awards.

We’re had a pretty heavy few weeks when it comes to big budget movie trailers. There were some good ones like Thor, some bad ones like Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon, and some really bad ones like Real Steel. Thankfully, there’s now a decent trailer to warm moviegoer’s hearts and give us something to look forward to in the coming year.
Of course, we’re talking about the fourth film in the Pirates of the Carribbean series, titled On Stranger Tides. From the looks of it, some of our favorite characters are all coming back, including Geoffrey Rush’s Barbossa. This time around, we’re getting treated with the awesomely bad ass stylings of Ian McShane as Blackbeard and the lovely Penélope Cruz as Angelica.
This time, Jack Sparrow and his gang of drunken pirates are after the fountain of youth, and travel to the ends of the earth against Blackbeard and his daughter to get to it first. The flick has prime placement for a box office smash, as it’s slated for a May 20th release.
Check out the full trailer after the jump.

Even though most of us are Mac users here at The Flickcast, that doesn’t mean we don’t have to use some Microsoft products. Case in point: Office 2011 for the Mac. This recently released suite of applications, which includes Word, Excel and for some Outlook, is pretty essential especially if you’re dealing with Windows users where the Office Suite is king.
The new update update for Office 2011 (Which brings the suite to version 14.0.2) offers improved reliability when accessing Office for Mac through third-party applications, fixes problems with Microsoft’s AutoUpdate program and improves stability in Outlook 2011. And really, who doesn’t want improved stability. Amiright?
The update is available now through Microsoft AutoUpdate. We’ve started applying to our Macs here at the office and so far, so good. If you do update, let us know if you have any problems in the comments.

Seasons greetings to all you loyal War Movie Monday fans out there in The Flickcast universe. In keeping with the theme of war films which happen around the holidays, I am proud to present this week’s pick, the 1949 MGM classic Battleground which salutes the “Battered Bastards” of 2nd Squad, 3rd Platoon of Item Company, 327th Glider Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne who were cut off and surrounded by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. To ensure that veterans seeing the film would not criticize the accuracy of certain events, the regiment was a composite of units which had fought the offensive in the Ardennes.
The film stars a troop of Hollywood greats which include Van Johnson (Holley), John Hodiak (Jarvess), Ricardo Montalban (Rodriguez), George Murphy (“Pop” Stazak), Marshall Thompson (Jim Layton), Jerome Courtland (Abner Spudler), Don Taylor (Standiferd), Douglas Fowley (“Kipp” Kippton), James Whitmore (Sgt. Kinnie), and Richard Jaeckel (Bettis).
Battleground was one of the first major hits for MGM in over five years since the war had ended. During the war, many films had shown battlefield conditions, but Battleground was the first to show the audience just how painful it truly was. The film is a fantastic display which shows men in combat as extremely vulnerable and succumbing to battle fatigue or what is referred to today as Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.
