As of last week, we officially have our Director (500 Days Of Summer’s Marc Webb), our Gwen Stacy (Zombieland’s Emma Stone), and our Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Social Network’s Andrew Garfield) locked in for the upcoming untitled Spider-Man reboot from Sony Pictures. Now, word is coming in that Welsh actor Rhys Ifans has been cast as the film’s unnamed villain.
It’s been said that Ifans’ most popular role was alongside Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant in 1999′s Notting Hill, but fans of cheesy genre comedies remember him from such fare as Little Nicky, The Replacements, and Pirate Radio. Now Ifans is taking on more of a colorful role as he battles with Garfield’s Spider-Man in the upcoming reboot.
The film is said to have little-to-no correlation with the previous Sam Raimi trilogy and will reboot the entire franchise for a whole new audience. As we said, Ifans may be locked into the film, but Sony is keeping a pretty tight lid on which exact villain we can see him as.
Who would you cast Rhys Ifans as? Could he out-goblin Willem Defoe’s Green Goblin? Or is it time that Electro finally makes it to the silver screen?
Sound off and let us know what you think. Spectacular Spider-Man (tentative title) is currently slated for a July 3rd release date in 2012.

A trio of schoolchildren are bound by a shocking secret in Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go. Although it has been couched as a sci-fi thriller, the movie is actually a beautiful and bittersweet love story between two of the central characters. It’s as poignant and tragic as any great love story out there.
Kathy (Carey Mulligan), Tommy (Andrew Garfield), and Ruth (Keira Knightly) all attended a sprawling English boarding school when they were children. Apparently they were orphans, and they were treated well by their caretakers and teachers.
However, there is a sinister aspect to the school. A “no tolerance” rule is strictly enforced for those for those who wander off the school’s property. They never have any visitors. Broken, discarded toys are brought in for the children to “buy” with currency they have earned. The whole institution seems completely devoid of joy or any emotion, for that matter. It seems like a horribly lonely existence, particularly for a child.
Kathy finds herself drawn to Tommy, a gentle, quirky boy. The two develop a deep rooted friendship, and it is clear that they are destined to be with one another. Kathy’s beautiful friend Ruth feels threatened by their special relationship, and callously drives a wedge between the two. Tommy is easily captivated, and Kathy is easily defeated. The star-crossed children never realize the potential of their feelings for one another.

There’s been plenty of speculation about who will take on the pivotal role of Mary Jane Watson, love interest of Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man) in the upcoming reboot of the franchise. Now it seems speculation can end because according to reports, the awesome Emma Stone is going to be offered the role.
Stone, coming off of great roles in Easy A and Zombieland, seems a natural for the part and according to the reports is a favorite of Sony, the studio home to the Spider-Man franchise. With the role of Mary Jane seemingly a lock for Stone, attention can then turn to the other pivotal female role in the film: Gwen Stacy.
The top contenders for that role include Glee’s Dianna Agron, Mia Wasikowska, Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott. Of those, I would probably lean towards Agron who could definitely pull of the role. Still, at the moment, no clear front runner has emerged.
Whatever happens with the part of Gwen Stacy, its great to see Emma Stone is becoming a bigger actress in Hollywood. She’s a talented girl who can go far. I, for one, hopes she does. Of course, when this deal is finalized and the one for Gwen Stacy as well, we’ll let you know.
What do you guys think? Is Emma Stone the right choice for Mary Jane Watson? Who should be Gwen Stacy?
UPDATE: Apparently, things got a bit reversed as Emma Stone has actually made a deal to star as Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane Watson. Odd?

When I first heard that David Fincher was directing and Aaron Sorkin was writing The Social Network, a movie about the founding of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg’s adventures at Harvard University, I have to admit I wasn’t completely sold on the idea. Sure, Facebook is a giant beast that millions of people use every day to communicate with friends and family around the world but still, I wondered if it would make an interesting movie.
As more and more info, including the first teaser, came out for the film I began to see the appeal. Now, with this new full trailer, just put up over at Yahoo Movies, I’m even more convinced that this film will really be one to watch. Apologies Mr. Fincher and Mr. Sorkin, I should never have doubted you.
In the new trailer we get our best look yet at Zuckerberg’s life at Harvard as well as some insight into his motivations for starting Facebook. In short, he was a nerd that wanted to fit in so he decided to start a website detailing college life so he could get noticed by his peers and perhaps, one day, be accepted by them. Plus, the trailer is accompanieed by a great choral rendition of “Creep.” A very nice touch.
I wonder how those people that ignored him back in college feel now that Zuckerberg is not only a rich man but is having a movie made about him by none other than David Fincher? Based on how he seems in the movie from this trailer, they probably still don’t like him.
Take a look at the full trailer and believe after the jump. The Social Network hits theaters on October 1, 2010.

Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook are so popular they are starting to consume more and more time. People flock to them to update their status, communicate with friends and generally let the world know the ins and outs of their daily lives. It’s hard to believe Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg knew what he was starting back in the day but whatever he thought, I would bet the success of Facebook has surpassed even his wildest estimations.
If success means you end up having a movie made about your life and the social networking site you founded with a few friends, then check Zuckerberg off the list, he’s made it. David Fincher’s The Social Network tells the story of the founding of Facebook and the trails and tribulations associated with something that got very big very fast.
In it Zombieland‘s Jesse Eisenberg plays Zuckerberg and soon-to-be-Spider-Man Andrew Garfield plays co-founder Eduardo Severin. Plus, the film also features Rashida Jones, Josheph Mazello and Justin Timberlake. To help get you ready for the film, we’ve got a new teaser to share with you today, so click through to check it out.
The Social Network hits theaters on October 1st. What do you guys think? Are you interested in a movie about the founding of Facebook?

Well, it wasn’t anyone we expected. Not Anton Yelchin, Josh Hutcherson, Aaron Johnson or any one of a list of young up-and-coming actors who had been associated with the role. In fact, it wasn’t anyone we’ve really heard of, sorry to say. But regardless of that, it appears Sony Pictures has selected the actor who will be taking on the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s reboot of Spider-Man.
That actor: Andrew Garfield, late of The Other Boleyn Girl, Boy A and soon to be seen in The Social Network. Yeah, I had to look it up too. Webb, of course, is wild about the choice.
“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
Well, there you go. I guess we’ll see if we really do. In the meantime, congrats to Andrew and good luck with the new role. We’ll be watching.

When the first talk of a Facebook movie hit the Internet it was met by some with skepticism. As the massive social network continued to gain momentum it seemed Hollywood was simply tapping into the “next big thing” for the sake of the name. However, don’t let the naysayers fool you, there is a compelling story to be told about Facebook.
To that end, Columbia Pictures has announced the trio of characters at the core of Facebook’s origins, “Jesse Eisenberg will play Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg; Justin Timberlake will play Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder who became Facebook’s founding president; and Andrew Garfield will play Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder who fell out with Zuckerberg over money.”
Those choices are very encouraging, specifically Eisenberg and Timberlake. Eisenberg brings his somewhat diminutive appeal to the role while nearly capturing Zuckerberg’s likeness. Timberlake may seem like an unconventional choice but he’s certainly proven his acting talent in films like Alpha Dog and appearances on Saturday Night Live.
Adding even more credit to the film is writer Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) and director David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Fight Club). Sorkin is a master at crafting character driven stories and Fincher always draws the best performances out of his actors. Now, add Kevin Spacey as a producer and the Facebook film suddenly becomes a very entertaining prospect.
The Social Network is set for a 2010 release date and begins shooting in Boston next month moving to Los Angeles thereafter.
