Direct-To-DVD features have developed a certain negative stigma. Usually they have significantly smaller budgets, B to Z level actors and scripts that make Tyler Perry read like Shakespeare.
So when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announces the upcoming release of their new direct-to-DVD superhero movie Cross, we take a very skeptical mentality. It would take at least a solid concept, well rounded cast and a fun trailer to instill the slightest bit of enthusiasm for the project. So you can imagine our surprise when this film offers up all three!
Yep. You heard that right: Cross has a straightforward–albeit interesting–core concept that allows a surprisingly strong cast to let lose and have some fun making a pulpy sci-fi action B-movie. This movie isn’t going to be The Dark Knight, or even its big screen cousins Constantine and Push. No, Cross looks like it knows it’s place and revels in the absurdity inherent in being direct-to-DVD.
The movie stars Brian Austin Green (The Sara Connor Chronicles), Vinnie Jones (X-Men: The Last Stand), Jake Busey (Starship Troopers), Michael Clark Duncan (Daredevil) and Tom Sizemore (Strang Days), and hits DVD on May 31st.

One of the biggest television renewal upsets last spring was Fox choosing to bring back fledgling series Dollhouse while canceling Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Both shows were struggling for ratings but Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles seemed more likely to be picked up as it was concluding its second season compared to Dollhouse only having aired twelve episodes (the thirteenth episode, “Epitaph One”, is currently only available in the DVD box set for season one and via iTunes). Obviously, loyal Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles fans were upset at this decision.
Those fans may have come to terms with the series never returning to television, but they haven’t given up hope for a direct-to-DVD movie. It seems unlikely but Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles producer James Middleton gave some indication that it could happen:
“The quick answer is, yes, there have been many discussions. I can’t go into more detail about the subject until I have something truly substantial to report. What the fans should know is that I hear them and I too would love to see T:SCC come back in some form.”
Sure, people may only be having “discussions” at this point but at least they’re talking. That’s a good first step for a show that desperately needs a conclusion. Without spoiling anything, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles pulled out all the stops for the season finale and left the series on a giant cliffhanger. Then it got canceled and we were all left wondering what would happen next. Some may find it easy to dismiss fan support as futile but there’s growing precedence for their voices being heard.

One thing Smallville has been good at over the years is their use of Superman villains and how they incorporate them into this universe. Yesterday we brought you a brand new clip from tomorrow night’s season premiere in which Clark and Chloe discuss Lois’ disappearance into the future. It was also explained that she brought someone back with her, and that someone may be dangerous.
In today’s clip, we get a look at just who that someone is, and he’s already well known in the Superman mythos. Brian Austin Green guest stars in a few episodes this season as the villain John Corben, better known as the cybernetic killing machine Metallo.
In the comics, Metallo was a creation of Lex Luthor, who was powered by green Kryptonite to take down the last son of Krypton. It looks like the origin was changed a bit here, as Metallo followed Lois back from the future when she left at the end of the last season.
Check out the intense clip between Corben (Brian Austin Green) and Lois Lane (Erica Durance) after the jump, and be sure to catch Smallville on The CW tomorrow night at 8PM, 7PM Central.

After playing a robotic assassin hunter in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles last spring, it appears that Brian Austin Green has an affinity for cyborgs. TV Guide has revealed — and we reported back in June — that the 90210 star is returning to the small screen for a two-episode arc on Smallville. And now, there’s a picture too.
In case you don’t recall or don’t want to click the link, Green plays John Corben, a new Daily Planet reporter who becomes the comic-book villain Metallo. In the aftermath of an accident, Corben is mysteriously outfitted with a heart made of kryptonite.
Executive producer Kelly Souders won’t reveal the identity of who is responsible for the Frankenstein-esque transformation, but says Corben is turned into “a rough version of Metallo, a first attempt at the technology, and eventually he’ll get sleeker.” The future of Green’s character is unknown and he might make a return visit to the show.
“It’s Smallville,” she says with a laugh. “We’re actually throwing some ideas around right now in the hopes that we might be able to bring him back for another episode.”
The 9th season premiere of Smallville airs on the CW September 25.

With the corpse of his former show, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, barely even cold, Brian Austin Green has already moved on. According to TV Guide, the former Beverly Hills 90210 star will take up residence in a new, probably far-less glamorous, zip code: Smallville.
Green will join the show next season for at least two episodes as, oddly enough given his last TV gig playing someone who killed cyborgs, t, the kryptonite-powered cyborg Metallo. Green will, of course, also appear as Metallo’s alter-ego, Daily Planet reporter John Corben. No word on if the actor’s role will be expanded beyond the initial episodes. Guess that depends on the ratings.
Actually, I’m kinda glad Green is getting more acting gigs. His work on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was actually pretty good and went a long way to help me forget David Silver. Who knows, if there ends up being another Terminator feature film (and there probably will) perhaps we’ll see Green pop up in that one as well? He seems to like cyborgs so anything’s possible.
The ninth, and presumably last, season of Smallville premieres Friday, September 25th on The CW.
