It’s Family Day In 2 New Clips From Thursday’s ‘Community’

by Matt Raub, Mar 9 2010 // 11:00 AM

News came in last week that NBC’s latest addition to their Thursday night line-up, Community, will be returning for a second season, and we couldn’t be happier. We are all in agreement that Dan Harmon’s sitcom about a group of community college students and their weekly antics is one of the funniest shows on TV, and we’re happy to see it return.

With that said, this week’s episode, entitled “Basic Geneology”, looks to be yet another funny one, as former American Idol star Katharine McPhee stops by. From NBC:

It’s Family Day at Greendale Community College and the gang’s families come to campus to join in the fun. Meanwhile, Jeff (Joel McHale) agrees to help Pierce (Chevy Chase) connect with his stepdaughter Amber (guest star Katharine McPhee). Things take an interesting twist when Amber shows an interest in Jeff.

We’ve got two new hilarious clips from the episode, which you can check out after the jump. Be sure to catch the “Basic Geneology” episode of Community on NBC this Thursday at 8/7C.

‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ To Get A Reboot

by Sebastian Suchecki, Feb 11 2010 // 2:00 PM

Though February is considered Black History Month, this year it seems that Hollywood is turning it into “Reboot Month”. Less than two weeks into the month, and we’ve already gotten word on a reboot for Daredevil, The Thing, Gunsmoke, Hawaii Five-0, and word that the Spider-Man reboot will be in 3-D.

It seems that Tinseltown and New Line Studios is setting their sights on another classic franchise, in National Lampoon’s Vacation. The original, which started in 1983, beget 4 sequels, including the direct-to-DVD film Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie’s Island Adventure. From Variety:

The latest project, which will no longer carry the National Lampoon credit, is being described as more of an update than a sequel and will be closer in tone to “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” than the previous chapters. Story will focus on Rusty Griswold, now a grown man, who decides to take his own wife and kids on a road trip to Wally World before it closes forever. Chase is not attached at this time to reprise his role as Clark Griswold, now a grandfather.

‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ Gets A New Trailer

by Matt Raub, Feb 11 2010 // 7:00 AM

We’re all pretty excited for the upcoming release of MGM’s Hot Tub Time Machine this March. We were sure to bring you the first two trailers a while back, which first got our attention. Now. they’ve just released another new trailer, and this time, we get a glimpse of William Zabka.

Those who have ever seen the Karate Kid films know Zabka as the infamous “Johnny” who was told to sweep the leg in the first film. Zabka had a bit of a resurgence a few years ago when the indie band No More Kings released the song “Sweep The Leg.” Zabka played himself and a twisted version of “Johnny” in the music video, which was pretty amazing. Now, Zabka returns with a handsome new mustache in Hot Tub Time Machine.

Could this film get any better? With a cast like John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Chevy Chase, Crispin Glover, and now Zabka, we highly doubt it. Check out the newest trailer after the jump, and we’ll be sure to have more Hot Tub Time Machine news as we lead up to the March 19th release date.

Go Behind the Scenes of Tonight’s ‘Community’

by Matt Raub, Dec 10 2009 // 11:00 AM

NUP_137472_1231We’ve been bringing you plenty of clips this week from tonight’s Christmas episode of NBC’s Community. This marks a pretty big episode for the freshman series, seeing as its their first Christmas episode, their final episode of 2009, and even special guest Anthony Michael Hall stops by to play “Bully Mike.”

This episode also marks the first time both Anthony Michael Hall and series regular Chevy Chase have been on screen together since National Lampoon’s Vacation back in 1983. The folks over at NBC were thoughtful enough to put together a behind-the-scenes package of tonight’s episode, “Comparative Religion,” and we’ve got that for you today.

In the episode, the gang gets ready for finals, as well as the winter break, while Abed crosses paths with the school’s resident bully (Michael Hall), while Jeff (Joel McHale) decides to get involved to protect his friend. Meanwhile, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) decides to invite the study group to her Christmas party, and tries coming to terms with everyone’s different beliefs.

Check out the behind-the-scenes clip after the jump and be sure to catch the “Comparative Religion” episode of Community on NBC, tonight at 8PM/7PM Central.

Anthony Michael Hall Guest Stars As “Mike The Bully” In a New ‘Community’ Clip

by Matt Raub, Dec 8 2009 // 9:00 AM

NUP_137472_0649Yesterday, we brought you a brand new clip from this week’s episode of Community entitled “Comparative Religion.” In this week’s episode, the A-story is about Shirley’s (Yvette Nicole Brown) Christmas party, while the B-story is about Mike the Bully (guest star Anthony Michael Hall) tormenting Joel McHale and the gang.

The Breakfast Club alum makes his first guest appearance in what could prove to be a recurring role in the series, as a middle-aged, mustachioed tough-guy who doesn’t seem to like the male members of the study group.

In this clip, Mike sets his sights on Abed (Danny Pudi) after all the Christmas cookies are gone. Jeff (Joel McHale) decides to do the right thing and step in. This episode also marks the first time that Anthony Michael Hall and series regular Chevy Chase have shared a screen since they played father and son in 1983’s National Lampoon’s Vacation.

Check out the clip below, and be sure to catch Community this Thursday on NBC(9:30-10 p.m. ET).

Religion Discussed In Clip From This Week’s ‘Community’

by Matt Raub, Dec 7 2009 // 10:00 AM

NUP_137471_0325Religion is sometimes a touchy subject to discuss in social situations, let alone in something as widely viewed as network TV. This is why most comedy programming vows to stay away from the taboo subject, in order to play nice with the millions of potential viewers. Luckily, NBC’s Community doesn’t seem to care about taboo, and they prove it in this week’s episode.

The mid-season break is coming up after this week, which means there’s even more pressure added to the final Community episode of 2009. The episode, entitled “Comparative Religion”, has Greendale College doing a “Christmas” theme for the last week of final exams. Also, special guest Anthony Michael Hall stops by to harass the gang as the stereotypical school bully.

The show was created by TV funnyman Dan Harmon, who’s other TV credits include Comedy Central’s The Sarah Silverman Program and the rare FOX pilot Heat Vision and Jack. Harmon also worked on several web-shorts including Laser Fart starring Jack Black.

Check out a new clip from “Comparative Religion” after the jump, and be sure to catch Community on NBC this Thursday, December 10 at 8PM/7PM Central.

What You Missed: ‘30 Rock’, ‘Community’, ‘The Office’ and More

by Joe Gillis, Dec 4 2009 // 10:15 AM

joel-mchale-communityJust in case you were asleep, out of town, forgot or your Tivo, or other brand of DVR, somehow missed recording one or all of our favorite NBC comedies this week, we’ve got some highlights of what you missed right here. Shows such as 30 Rock, Community, The Office and Parks and Recreation are darn funny comedies that also, in many cases, have continuing storylines that go from episode to episode.

So, its a good idea not to miss one of them or you might be lost the following week. Fortunately, you can catch most of these shows on Hulu if you missed them. Or, you can at least try and keep up with the real funny bits by watching the clips from this week’s shows right here after the jump.

Remember to make sure your DVR is primed and ready to record next week when these shows are on. To make sure, keep in mind that 30 Rock is on Thursdays at 9:30/8:30C, Community is on at 8/7C, The Office at 9/8C and Parks and Rec at 8:30/7:30C. Got that? Good.

What You Missed: ‘Community’, ‘30 Rock’, ‘The Office’ and More

by Joe Gillis, Nov 20 2009 // 12:30 PM

Community-joel-mchale-chevy-chaseAs we’ve started to do here at the site, we again present a bit of a recap of what you missed if you didn’t watch some of the best comedies currently on television this week. These shows, including Community, 30 Rock and The Office, represent what happens when you get highly creative and extremely funny people together to make a television sitcom. In short, they definitely bring the funny.

This week we’ve got clips from Community, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, The Office and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, mostly because his guest is the terrific Katey Sagal from one of our favorite non-comedies Sons of Anarchy — a show you should be watching. So sit back, relax and spend a few minutes enjoying what these show have to offer.

If you’ve never seen any of these episodes, then you’re in for a treat. If you have, then there’s nothing wrong with laughing at them all over again. Besides, laughter is good for you.

Check out all the video after, you guessed it, the jump.

TV Review: ‘Community’

by Matt Raub, Sep 17 2009 // 9:30 AM

slice_community_nbc_joel_mchale_chevy_chase_john_oliver_donald_glover_01

Fans of The Soup rejoice! This week alone, we not only get punchy host Joel McHale on the E! clip show, but also in theaters alongside Matt Damon in The Informant and on the very first episode of NBC’s Community. Thankfully, the show looks like it has potential to stick around for quite some time, playing partner to other NBC hits like The Office and 30 Rock.

For those who plan on catching the premier tonight, here’s a little about the show. Community is about Jeff Winger, a lawyer with the gift of gab who gets disbarred when it’s revealed his license to practice law is all but real. He is then forced to attend community college, where he feels completely out of place among what he thinks are the old, young, and useless. Winger then meets fellow classmate Britta (Gillian Jacobs), who he becomes smitten with, a decides to give the community experience a try.

The show brings together great names like Chevy Chase, John Oliver, Joel McHale and the writer/creator of the show, Dan Harmon. You might not recognize that last one but Harmon has been a prominent name in the internet comedy community for years now. He started off writing the failed pilot Heat Vision and Jack directed by Ben Stiller and starring Jack Black and Owen Wilson, which was about a traveling astronaut and his talking motorcycle. Harmon then moved on to the internet with cult web series such as Laser Fart, as well as co-creating The Sarah Silverman Program for Comedy Central.
