First Trailer for ‘The Other Guys’ Looks Funny

by Sebastian Suchecki, Apr 12 2010 // 11:00 AM

Will Farrell and Adam McKay have been an unstoppable force in comedy for nearly a decade now. They first started getting audiences to split sides together with the 2004 film Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and have been keeping us laughing ever since. In that time, they’ve also revolutionized time-wasting with their video streaming site Funny or Die, which has brought us some great internet hits, and is now a weekly HBO anthology show.

It seems like the dynamic duo of comedy is back at it again, with their upcoming film The Other Guys. The film starts off as any modern buddy cop film would, two badass detectives (played none other than Sam Jackson and Dwayne Johnson) are taken out of the game, so it’s up to the two pencil pushers in the squad (Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) to step up and get into the action.

The trailer already looks this film is going to be worth the price of admission. The fact that actors like Jackson, The Rock, and Whalberg are able to mock their stereotypical roles means that this will be a no-holds-barred comedy.

Check out the first trailer after the jump, and catch Ferrel’s Other Guys in theaters on August 6th.

New Trailer: Dwayne Johnson in ‘The Tooth Fairy’

by Matt Raub, Oct 5 2009 // 8:15 AM

tooth-fairy-poster-1Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has had quite an interesting career in a pretty short amount of time. He’s covered just about all of the prerequisites that his Action Movie forefathers set for him: Sci-Fi franchise, art-house picture, buddy movie, and family film. Those accolades took stars like Schwartzenegger and Stallone 15 years to accomplish, and Johnson has managed to do them in 5. He’s now coming off of the success of Race to Witch Mountain and The Game Plan for another family-friendly film in The Tooth Fairy.

In the film, Johnson plays tough guy Derek Thompson, known to his friends as “The Tooth Fairy” due to his aggressive sportsmanship on the hockey rink. Thompson is kind of an S.O.B. to fans, friends, and even his kid, until things get turned around and he is sentenced to serve as an actual tooth fairy.

The cast is pretty heavy, throwing in names like Ashley Judd and Julie Andrews, but the most interesting is the addition of Billy Crystal to the cast. This is Crystal’s first on-screen role since 2002′s Analyze That (with brief voice role in 2006′s Cars). It’s interesting that Crystal would come out of the woodwork for this film, but it could have something to do with the film’s screenwriters. The script was done by the writing team of Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, who worked with Crystal on films like City Slickers, Forget Paris and Mr. Saturday Night.

Check out the first trailer for the film after the jump. Enjoy Dwayne, Billy, and the rest of the cast when The Tooth Fairy hits theaters January 22 of next year.

First Full Trailer for ‘Planet 51′ Goes Online

by Matt Raub, Jul 3 2009 // 10:30 AM

planet51With the rise of alien movies only shadowed by the rise of family CGI-animated films, it only made sense to do yet another family CGI-animated movie about aliens, right? With that said, Planet 51 is a backwards version of conventional alien invasion movies from the 60s, where this time a human astronaut lands on an alien planet, only to be considered a hostile creature, and hilarity insues.

The film stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who doesn’t sound like himself at all. It’s almost as if he’s effecting his voice for the character, which means he must not know how to voice an animated movie (YOU control the character, the character doesn’t control you!). Also along for the ride is Jessica Biel, Justin Long, and Gary Oldman. The film has everything a 6-12 year old will love: screaming, someone falling on their genitals, and a cute robot dog that pees when it’s scared. Check out the trailer after the jump.
