First Look at the Green Arrow costume from CW’s ‘Arrow’

by Sebastian Suchecki, Mar 20 2012 // 7:30 AM

The CW’s pilot Arrow, based on DC property The Green Arrow, just released the first image of star Stephen Amell (Private Practice) as the titular character. The suit was designed by three-time Oscar-winning costume designer and frequent Tim Burton collaborator who most recently worked on Snow White and the Huntsman, Colleen Atwood.

The project centers on former billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Amell) who, after being marooned for five years on a remote island, returns with a mysterious agenda and a lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime.

David Nutter, who headed up the pilot for the Superman-themed series Smallville, will also be directing Arrow. “When I directed the pilot for Smallville, I knew that making Clark Kent relate-able would be the key to audiences believing in him as a hero,” Nutter said. “Arrow is a different show — darker and harder-edged — but it’s the same core idea. We’re creating a real, believable world in which Oliver Queen can do incredible things. Colleen Atwood’s great work on the Arrow costume reflects that effort.”

Syfy Picks Up Script Based on DC’s Futuristic Hero Booster Gold

by Sebastian Suchecki, Nov 23 2011 // 10:30 AM

Superheroes are huge now, incase you weren’t up to speed. With films like Dark Knight and Spider-Man making over a billion dollars in the worldwide box office, that means you’re going to see movie and TV studios make bolder decisions that lean towards comic book properties that could bring eyeballs (and dollar signs) to their company.

That’s just what Syfy is looking to do, as they have ordered a script from Greg Berlanti, who wrote Green Lantern, as well as helped shape the story of ABC’s Modern Family, which will focus on DC’s anti-hero from the future, Booster Gold. THR has the report.

The story will center on Booster Gold, a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time. Instead of chasing criminals, however, his main priority is chasing fame and money. But Booster Gold discovers that being a hero takes more than just a megawatt smile, and that the future doesn’t happen without first protecting the present.

‘Crash of the Titans’ Turning Into a Trilogy, This Time With Better Writers

by Matt Raub, Nov 3 2011 // 9:00 AM

Those who saw French director Louis Leterrier’s remake of the classic film Clash of the Titans were split straight down the middle on those who absolutely loved the film, and those who thought it was total schlock.

Not unlike the response to the original film, this has left a bad taste in the mouths of fans, to the point where talk of a sequel would only anger them. That’s where this bit of news should change some folks’ minds. It seems that the Brothers Warner will be planning two sequels to the film. The good news? Good writers are on the way. From THR.

Dan Mazeau and David Leslie Johnson, who co-wrote Wrath’s screenplay with Steven Knight and also share story credit with Greg Berlanti, have been enlisted to develop and write a treatment for the threequel, which would continue the adventures of Perseus, played by Sam Worthington.

Writers Hired for ‘Green Lantern 2′ and ‘The Flash’

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 10 2010 // 8:00 AM

In this case you can’t accuse Hollywood of not planning ahead. With Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern film still over a year from release, Warner Bros. is already getting ready for a sequel.

The studio has reportedly hired writers Greg Berlanti (Everwood), Michael Green (Kings) and Marc Guggenheim (Eli Stone) to put together a treatment for the next installment of Green Lantern. These are the same writers who penned the first film so obviously the studio must be pretty happy with their work to bring them back again.

Reinforcing that is the news that the trio, in addition to working on a new Green Lantern, will also be working on a treatment for another comic book adaptation: The Flash. According to the report, the writers would work on both treatments and would eventually be selected to write the screenplay for one of the two projects, although which one is still to be determined.

It’s encouraging that Warner Bros. seems to feel so confidant in Green Lantern. It’s a rare move by a major studio to work on a sequel to a film this far in advance, especially one that hasn’t even been finished or released yet. Let’s hope this means Green Lantern will be the awesome film we all hope it will be.

Green Lantern is currently filming in new Orleans with an expected release next year.

Justin Timberlake As Green Lantern?

by Matt Raub, Jul 10 2009 // 6:30 AM

justin-timberlakeA few weeks ago, blog-o-sphere guru Rick Marshall was a guest on The Flickcast, and on the show we discussed how monotonous it can be when a rumor starts and every news site and it’s mother decides to post about it. We’ve decided to feed the bottomless machine here by giving slightly more stock to the rumor that pop star Justin Timberlake screen tested and is being “seriously considered” for the role of the Green Lantern in a big screen adaptation.

The rumor comes from big, red Harry Knowles over at Ain’t it Cool News, who supposedly got the news from Leavesden Studios, the company who will be working on the film. There’s no telling if this information is legit, or just another rumor like Cher as Catwoman and Eddie Murphy as The RIddler. Either way, it seems to be a way better choice than Jack Black, who was rumored to be playing the titular role a few years back.

The actual film, which isn’t a rumor, will be written by Greg Berlanti (Eli Stone) and Michael Green (Heroes), with Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) in the director’s chair. Other names that have been tossed around for the main role range from Bradley Cooper to Common to Ryan Gosling. The next thing Timberlake has on his plate is Shrek Forever After and 46 more appearances on Saturday Night Live.
