There was a time when anything Geoff Johns wrote was gold especially if it had Green Lantern in the title. This was the man that gave us an amazing 100 issue run on JSA, redeemed and redefined Hal Jordan as a character in Green Lantern: Rebirth, and was one of the architects of the brilliant weekly series 52.
Somewhere around the time of Blackest Night, Geoff Johns became stale for me. Whereas once his plots were epic and revolutionary, now the plots are stale, and do little but set up his next event. Green Lantern #2 does little to change my opinion.
Hal Jordan is no longer Green Lantern following the events of the War of the Green Lanterns. Sinestro has been granted Hal’s ring, and he shows up on Hal’s doorstep offering to give it back to him. Like any deal with the devil, there is price.
Most of the issue is a simple conversation between Hal and Sinestro. Sinestro plays the role of over-bearing arrogant mother by spending the issue insulting Hal by saying he never really changed the Earth, he just used the ring to show-off. Hal spends most of the issue filling his role as petty brat constantly yelling at Sinestro, and saying, “Gimmie my ring back!”

This week is all X-Men, but next week begins the time of Green Lantern as it’s the next major superhero film to hit this summer. The live-action film hits theaters on June 17th, but way before that, you’ll be getting the geek’s fan favorite choice as Hal Jordan, Nathan Fillion, lending his voice in the animated anthology Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.
The film is a series of stories surrounding Jordan and a few other members of the Green Lantern Corps as they fight crime across the universe. There are some pretty impressive names attached the film alongside Fillion. Roddy Piper, Henry Rollins, Kelly Hu, Arnold Vosloo, and Elisabeth Moss all lend their voices to fight space crime.
In a recent interview, King of the Geeks Fillion discussed how much he’s always wanted to play the Emerald Hero, even since childhood.
As a child, when you’re pretending you’re different super heroes, Green Lantern was the easiest because all you needed to light the fire in the imagination was the ring. Superman, you need a cape; Spiderman, you need a full face mask. That wasn’t tough to come by in a winter town like where I’m from, but they’re just too hot to wear in the summer. So to be Green Lantern, all you needed to do is suck a lifesaver down to the right size, and to make sure it’s a lime one – slip it on your finger, and you were good.
Sounds like a match made in heaven to us. Check out a brand new clip from Green Lantern: Emerald Knights after the jump and be sure to grab the film on DVD and Blu-Ray next Tuesday, June 7th.

Just in time for the weekend and, perhaps, the end of the world as we know it comes this brand new Green Lantern trailer from Warner Bros via Yahoo Movies. In it we get a lot more action and see what that power ring can do in the hands of an expert.
Plus, we get a lot more about the origin of the Green Lantern Corps as well as a bunch more footage not seen yet, at least to the general public. This trailer will be shown in theaters in 3D. Sadly, we only go 2D here (for now).
Check out the brand new trailer after the break. Green Lantern arrives on June 17th.

You’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all, right? Well, not exactly — at least in this case. Warner Bros. has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds as the title character.
In this new one we get a much more complete picture of what the movie is trying to accomplish both visually and story-wise. More Reynolds, more bad guys, more Oa and more action are, with each new trailer, making this look like one of the films to beat this Summer.
I don’t know about you but this is really starting to look darn good. Having not seen it yet we can only guess how it compares with Thor, Captain America and more but if the movie holds up as well as the trailers seem to indicate it will, we’ve got a real fight for comic book movie supremacy this Summer.
This Summer seems like a great time to be a nerd, geek or fanboy/girl.
Check out the new trailer after the jump. Green Lantern hits theaters on June 17th.

Despite staying busy as the star of ABC’s Castle, we’re learning that Nathan Fillion will also be starring as Hal Jordan in an animated tie-in to this summer’s live-action DC Comic adaptation, Green Lantern. Set to release June 7, 2011 from Warner Bros Animation, the animated flick will star some amazing voice talent including Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Jason Isaacs (‘Harry Potter’), Kelly Hu (Hawaii Five-0, The Vampire Diaries), rocker/actor/spoken-word artist Henry Rollins and last-but-not-least, ex-wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.
TV Guide is serving up an exclusive first-look of Fillion (pictured above) as he takes to the microphone in his unmistakable ‘Green Lantern’ tee-shirt. Fillion spoke briefly with TV Guide about his fanboy glee over being chosen to voice an iconic comic character like The Green Lantern:
“I was always reading the comic books, I was always a spectator,”Fillion told TV Guide. “Now I feel like I own a little piece of Green Lantern.“
Warner Bros Animation is planning to release ‘Green Lantern: Emerald Knights’ a mere 10 days before the release of the feature film starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. With Fillion and Reynolds both alumni of ABC’s ‘Two Guys and a Girl,’ there seems to be nothing but respect between the two actors.
“He’s a great guy, a gem, deserves all the success that he’s getting,” says Fillion, “so it’s neat to have a little piece and share it with someone you know.“
As a huge fan of Nathan Fillion, I’m eagerly awaiting the June 7th release date of ‘Emerald Knights.’ And wow, summer 2011 is shaping up to be an amazing season for comic book-based flicks. With ‘Thor’ releasing in May, ‘Green Lantern’ in June, and ‘Captain America’ in July, it’s going to be an outstanding time to be a fanboy.
So what are you looking forward to this summer? Be sure to let us know in the comments section.

Even though Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment didn’t make the big announcement about Batman: Arkham City until after Comic Con, they did make sure to let us get our hands on a more kid friendly Batman title. Based off the animated series of the same name, Batman: The Brave and The Bold, which is coming to both the Wii and Nintendo DS, takes classic 2D side scrolling gameplay mixed with hand drawn animations to present a mix of modern and retro to the screen.
Each level is built as a cooperative experience pairing up Batman with either Robin, Aquaman, Black Canary, Blue Beetle, Captain Marvel, Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Green Lantern Hal Jordan, Plastic Man or the Red Tornado facing off against the schemes of any of the game’s various villains. These villains include Catman, Catwoman, Gorilla Grodd, Mongul, Starro and Two-Face. Like the comic book and the show, Batman: The Brave and The Bold focuses on the idea of Batman teaming up with another hero to take on some villainous force he would not have been able to take on solo. Each level features a different hero and drop-in, drop-out gameplay allowing for players to hop in even mid-level.
The game contains a full five minutes of original animation created by WB Animation, the same team that works on the Batman: The Brave and The Bold series. These are seen throughout any of the game’s 2D cutscenes. Everything in the game is hand drawn before being digitally scanned and then animated. Because of this production style, the game contains around 15,000 individual animations. The game definitely stands out amongst all of the other 3D computer animated titles currently being shown.

With the upcoming big screen adaptation of Green Lantern now finished with principal photography and onto the lengthy post-production stage, it was only a matter of time before info from the film started to leak out. We’ve already seen some stuff, including Ryan Reynolds as the main character and him working on the set, and now we’ve got a picture of another character fans have been looking forward to seeing: Kilowog.
Courtesy of our pals over at ComicBook Movie comes the first image of Hal Jordan’s mentor and I have to say it looks pretty good. Much like his comic counterpart, the character seems to have all the necessary gravitas to be such a respected member of the Green lantern Corps.
Sure, the picture doesn’t show much else than a head and shoulders and we can’t see the character in action, but it does seem like the filmmakers have adhered pretty closely to the character’s appearance from the comics. Or, putting it another way, he doesn’t seem much like a Poozer. Unless, of course, it turns out to be fan-made — which can happen.
Authentic or fan-made, check out a larger pic after the jump. Green Lantern hits theaters on June 17th, 2011.

Here we are, one week away from this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and we’ve already got a huge piece of comic news. The costume for the upcoming Green Lantern film has been revealed from the cover of next week’s Entertainment Weekly, and it looks….interesting.
There has been plenty of speculation about what the costume will look like, once we found out that it will be completely made up of CG, and now we’re finally seeing it.
We won’t take up any more of your time, so click through to take a look at the cover after the jump (via i09) and let us know what you think. Green Lantern hits theaters June 17, 2011.

As if a live action Green Lantern movie featuring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan wasn’t enough, now word comes that Cartoon Network is planning an animated Green Lantern TV series. The announcement came during Time Warner’s annual “Investors Day”, which took place in New York yesterday. See, Time Warner owns Cartoon Network, just in case you didn’t realize that. Okay, moving on.
Slides of the new show, dubbed Green Lantern: The Animated Series (clever, right?), were shown to the crowd during the event by TW’s CEO of Turner Networks Unit Phil Kent. In addition, Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Barry Meyer also mentioned the show later in the day as an example of ”increasing collaboration and coordination between his unit and Turner.” So many jokes right now but I’m going to leave that alone.
The show will reportedly be based on both the DC Comics character and Warner’s Green Lantern movie, which is currently scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release. The TV series is expected to launch in the second year after the film release. So, that’s a long time from now. Presumably, if the movie does poorly we probably won’t ever see the series at all. Still, it could be fun so let’s hope both end up coming to fruition.

About a month ago, we first told you that Ryan Reynolds wouldn’t be donning any spandex or leather for his upcoming superhero blockbuster Green Lantern. Instead, Warner Bros. and director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) made the executive decision to make Hal Jordan’s suit completely computer generated.
With that said, we’re getting the first set pic of Reynolds walking around in the motion-capture suit he wears when shooting so that the visual effects team knows what to replace with the futuristic and shiny Green Lantern costume.
We are still not completely sold on the idea of a non-practical suit for the film, as it looked in the comics, but it will always beat the decision to give the X-Men black leather suits, so we’re OK with it for now.
Check out the image of Reynolds on set in the motion-capture suit, and see if you can imagine what the suit will look like in the finished film. Thanks to our pals at MTV Splash Page for the heads up on the pic.

The cast of DC and Warner Bros. upcoming big screen adaptation of Green Lantern, featuring Ryan Reynolds as the titular hero and with Martin Campbell directing, has just grown by two. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Temuera Morrison, best known as Jango Fett from the Star Wars movies, has joined the cast as well as filmmaker-actor Taika Waititi.
According to the trade, Morrison will take on the role of Abin Sur, a member of the Green Lantern Corps who gives Hal Jordan his power ring before dying. Waititi will play Hal Jordan’s best friend. They join a cast that, in addition to Reynolds as Jordan, includes Tim Robbins, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong as Sinestro.
With the addition of Morrison, who I’ve been a fan of since his earlier work in Once Were Warriors, Green Lantern looks to be shaping up as quit a film. Even if it’s being filmed in 3D, which may or may not be a good thing, I’m still getting pretty excited to see it when it’s eventualy released.
Green Lantern begins filming this week in New Orleans with a release scheduled for June 17, 2011.
