If you weren’t able to get out to a theater yesterday or don’t live in one of the cities where this new footage of The Amazing Spider-Man had a sneak peek, don’t worry. We’ve got the footage, in the form of a new trailer, for you right here.

In it we get a lot more of the story of the film including what appears to be the main plot of Spider-Man fighting the lizard. We also get appearances by pretty much all the major characters including Gwen Stacy, Dr. Curt Connors, The Lizard, Uncle Ben, Aunt May and, of course, Peter Parker/Spider-Man himself.

What would a day at Comic-Con be without a lot of news and announcements? Well, a pretty boring day for sure.

Fortunately, we won’t have that problem today because hot on the heels of the first teaser trailer being released, we’ve now got the first teaser poster for The Amazing Spider-Man (courtesy of the fine folks at First Showing). That’s right, it’s a teaser poster which, much like the one for The Avengers, doesn’t really reveal all that much.

Fortunately, we’ve already seen quite a bit with the teaser trailer so the lack of info on the poster isn’t all that much of a problem. At least this one is a bit better than the one for The Avengers which, to be honest, it pretty boring.

In case you’ve forgotten, The Amazing Spider-Man is directed by Marc Webb. It stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Campbell Scott, C. Thomas Howell, Julianne Nicholson and Annie Parisse.

It hits theaters on July 3, 2012. That’s plenty of time for some much better posters and for Webb to convince us Garfield was the right choice for Peter Parker.

Over the last couple days an unofficial bootleg of the new The Amazing Spider-Man teaser trailer has been making its way around the Interwebs. We waited to bring you the official, real one so that we could put it up and not have to take it right down again.

Anyway, it’s here and for the first time we get to see Andrew Garfield in sort of action as Peter Parker and his alter ego, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Reaction to the teaser has been mixed around The Flickcast offices (especially where Garfield is concerned) but still, the teaser is pretty good and does help convey some of what it must be like to have Spider-Man’s powers.

It also delves more into the character moments of the upcoming film, which is probably due to director Marc Webb’s background and his stated desire to make a “smaller” film. Sadly, it is still an origin story even though it seems to be told in a different, yet very familiar to almost anyone alive, way.

Obviously, we’ll have much more time to judge the film as its release gets closer. Meantime, check out the new teaser after the break.

Well fans, it’s official. The name of the upcoming reboot of the Spider-Man franchise is The Amazing Spider-Man. After a long bout of speculation and rumors, Sony broke the news today and  we can now at least put that question to rest.

But wait, there’s more. As if finding out the official title isn’t enough, Sony also decided that today is the day to release an official photo of the new web slinger as well. In this photo we get our first good look at Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man and from the look of things he’s been hitting the weight room since playing Facebook Co-Founder Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network.

Before this photo there had been speculation about the full Spider-Man costume as well as how the web shooters were going to be portrayed in the new film. Well, from the photo we can clearly see the shooters are mechanical in nature and, at least to us, the mask looks pretty good as well.

As you may already know (especially if you’re reading this site) the film stars Garfield as Spider-Man/Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. It also features Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field and is directed by Marc Webb. Look for it to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Over at Deadline they’ve got the first pic of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man in director Marc Webb’s reboot of the franchise. In the pic we get the first real look at Garfield as Spider-Man as well as a good idea of how the new costume is shaping up.

Although, from what you can see in this pic it looks like the costume, and Spider-Man, are a little worse for wear. It could be that he’s just been in a big battle and is making his way home.

Or, from the backpack on his shoulder, maybe he’s just hard a hard day in High School and needs to relax for a bit? Whatever the setup for this pic, it’s always fun to speculate as to what’s going on and to, of course, finally get a glimpse of what your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is going to look like this time around.

Finally, some more believable casting news for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. Lately, we’ve been fielding news about names like Sally Field (now playing Aunt May), Martin Sheen (Uncle Ben) and Denis Leary (Capt. Stacey) joining the film, but now we have some more grounded information, as four new names have been added to the film.

Campbell Scott (The Exorcism of Emily Rose), Julianne Nicholson (Kinsey), Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire), and Annie Parisse (Rubicon) are all now joining the cast. Here’s the scoop from THR.

Scott and Nicholson will be Parker’s parents, who leave their son an orphan. Parker’s parents have rarely been seen in the various Marvel comic book series and have never appeared on-screen. It is unclear if they will appear in flashbacks, in a prologue or during the course of the movie.

Things keep getting weirder and weirder with the casting of Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot, referred to around the Flickcast offices as (500) Days of Spider-Man. A few weeks back, we brought you some interesting news as Martin Sheen was cast as Peter Parker’s uncle, Ben Parker. Then news came through that Sally Field was in talks to play Aunt May. Weird enough news on it’s own.

Now, word is coming through from Heat Vision that famed comedian and bad ass fictional firefighter Denis Leary is in negotiations to play George Stacy, father of Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy.

In comic lore, New York City Police Captain Stacy perishes in a fight with Spidey and Doctor Octopus, which forces Gwen to hate Spider-Man. Since Gewn is the main love interest of the film, this will more than likely become the conflict in the middle.

The rest of the cast is filled out with Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Rhys Ifans as The Lizard. Spider-Man is set to start shooting beginning next year.

Well this is an interesting turn of events. With Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man prequel/reboot, things are getting a bit wacky with the casting. We’ve got The Social Network‘s Andrew Garfield taking on the lead, with Emma Stone as Mary Jane and Rhys Ifans as the unnamed villain.

Now the wackiness begins, as Heat Vision is reporting that Martin Sheen, yes the former president of the United States (Art least on TV), has been cast to play Peter Parker’s soon-to-be deceased Uncle Ben.

Kind of a bit part for the man who’s credits include films like Apocalypse Now, Wall Street, and The Departed. This could drastically change the credibility of the film from a “cute indie reboot” to potentially something much bigger.

And if that news isn’t enough to get your interest, Sally Field is currently in talks with Webb and the folks at Sony to play Peter Parker’s frail Aunt May. If Sheen and Field both make it into this movie, you can say goodbye to any of that Indie feel that was originally attached.

That’s right, Aunt May could just be portrayed by The Flying Nun herself. Commence humorous photoshopping now. Spider-Man is expected to start shooting next month, with a July 3rd release date.

As of last week, we officially have our Director (500 Days Of Summer’s Marc Webb), our Gwen Stacy (Zombieland’s Emma Stone), and our Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Social Network’s Andrew Garfield) locked in for the upcoming untitled Spider-Man reboot from Sony Pictures. Now, word is coming in that Welsh actor Rhys Ifans has been cast as the film’s unnamed villain.

It’s been said that Ifans’ most popular role was alongside Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant in 1999′s Notting Hill, but fans of cheesy genre comedies remember him from such fare as Little Nicky, The Replacements, and Pirate Radio. Now Ifans is taking on more of a colorful role as he battles with Garfield’s Spider-Man in the upcoming reboot.

The film is said to have little-to-no correlation with the previous Sam Raimi trilogy and will reboot the entire franchise for a whole new audience. As we said, Ifans may be locked into the film, but Sony is keeping a pretty tight lid on which exact villain we can see him as.

Who would you cast Rhys Ifans as? Could he out-goblin Willem Defoe’s Green Goblin? Or is it time that Electro finally makes it to the silver screen?

There’s been plenty of speculation about who will take on the pivotal role of Mary Jane Watson, love interest of Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man) in the upcoming reboot of the franchise. Now it seems speculation can end because according to reports, the awesome Emma Stone is going to be offered the role.

Stone, coming off of great roles in Easy A and Zombieland, seems a natural for the part and according to the reports is a favorite of Sony, the studio home to the Spider-Man franchise. With the role of Mary Jane seemingly a lock for Stone, attention can then turn to the other pivotal female role in the film: Gwen Stacy.

The top contenders for that role include Glee’s Dianna Agron, Mia Wasikowska, Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott. Of those, I would probably lean towards Agron who could definitely pull of the role. Still, at the moment, no clear front runner has emerged.

Whatever happens with the part of Gwen Stacy, its great to see Emma Stone is becoming a bigger actress in Hollywood. She’s a talented girl who can go far. I, for one, hopes she does. Of course, when this deal is finalized and the one for Gwen Stacy as well, we’ll let you know.

UPDATE: Apparently, things got a bit reversed as Emma Stone has actually made a deal to star as Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane Watson. Odd?

Well, it wasn’t anyone we expected. Not Anton Yelchin, Josh Hutcherson, Aaron Johnson or any one of a list of young up-and-coming actors who had been associated with the role. In fact, it wasn’t anyone we’ve really heard of, sorry to say. But regardless of that, it appears Sony Pictures has selected the actor who will be taking on the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s reboot of Spider-Man.

That actor: Andrew Garfield, late of The Other Boleyn Girl, Boy A and soon to be seen in The Social Network. Yeah, I had to look it up too. Webb, of course, is wild about the choice.

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Well, there you go. I guess we’ll see if we really do. In the meantime, congrats to Andrew and good luck with the new role. We’ll be watching.

Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution announced today that the upcoming Spider-Man reboot will be coming to theaters on July 3rd, 2012 in full 3D. According to Blake: “Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc’s fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise.”

Set to be directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) with from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), the still untitled Spider-Man film will quickly reboot the franchise that had starred Toby McGuire as Peter Parker. Now already eight years after the original film’s release, a new generation’s webslinger will step on to the silver screen.

With visuals like shooting webs and swinging through Manhattan, it seems like the Spider-Man franchise would work well in 3D as long as they were about to avoid the somewhat stereotypical “throw something at the screen” actions that some of these style films fall in to. Our main concern though is making sure there are no 3D song and dance routines down Broadway.
