Here’s a list of some of the new movie and TV shows coming to DVD and Blu-ray this week that we’re looking forward to seeing. Also, there’s some classic, and not-so-classic, movies hitting Blu-ray for the first time this week as well.
Of all the new releases, we’re particularly interested in the Blu-ray versions of movies and TV shows such as Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, Night of the Creeps, the original Stargate, The Sam Fuller Collection,Orphan and the complete The Prisoner series starring and created by Patrick McGoohan (pictured above).

Now that all the dust has settled, and San Diego Comic-Con is slowly becoming a fading memory, we wanted to bring our readers a look at some of the things we saw, people we talked to, and stuff we did during what we like to call NerdiGras.

The 1980s were an amazing time for horror cinema. From the rise of Troma Films to the uncanny popularity of the slasher film, the genre was certainly made into a whole new beast in that decade. One director was able to help move the world of monsters and creatures into the public eye with 1986’s Night of the Creeps.
The film was able to turn horror and scifi on it’s side and add some comedy for flavor. At the time it may have been forgotten rather quickly, but then it was resurrected by a swarm of fans calling it a “cult classic”. Not looking back on Creeps, Dekker moved on to other projects, some of which include 1987’s Monster Squad and a handful of episodes of Tales From the Crypt.
Now, the fans have spoken once again, and Night of the Creeps‘ popularity has warranted it’s first release on DVD and Hi-Def Blu-Ray this October. The DVD is packed with features, deleted scenes, trivia, and commentary from the director himself. We got a chance to talk about the surprising success and DVD release of Night of the Creeps with Dekker himself, and you can check out the video interview after the jump. Creeps hits DVD shelves October 20th.
After years and years of fans writing letters and banging on the doors of executives at TriStar pictures to get the 1986 classic Night of the Creeps an official DVD release, they have finally given in, and will be giving us our cheesy zombie goodness (in the form of a “director’s cut”) this October. Not only do we get to relive the film over-and-over again, but we get to take part in voting for our favorite cover to be used on the DVD box!
Amazon has released a pre-order option for the DVD, and has given three options for the art, all of which are pretty cool, but all this is really doing is delaying the time before we can get to Robert Patrick giving his award-deserving performance of a brain dead teen. Voting ends on July 12th, so be sure to check out each cover after the jump, and vote accordingly.
