TV RECAP: ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Episode 201: ‘Shadows’

by Eric Miller, Sep 25 2014 // 9:00 AM

MING-NA WEN, LUCY LAWLESS, NICK BLOOD, WILMER CALDERON, HENRY SIMMONS, CHLOE BENNET, PATTON OSWALT

Back in Austria, in 1945, a group on Nazis are cleaning all of the valuables out of a building. One item in particular, a shiny metal object of some sort, is of specific interest to the Nazi general. Apparently those who touched it have turned to ashy stone and died.

Before it can be packed away, a group called the Strategic Scientific Reserve attacks the Nazis and takes the relic, vowing to keep it hidden forever. They claim that this is the last HYDRA site, and their work is done. Old school S.H.I.E.L.D. agents I guess. They box up the relic (SSR 084).

Back to current times, a rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is trying to sell SSR Relic 084 to the “highest bidder”. All he has is a photo of it, but swears to know the location of it. It is level 10 classified so he know it’s something good.

Before the deal can go down, a man swoops in and steals the information. He kills the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent , and is struck with several bullets, but to no effect. It is revealed that the potential buyers of the 084 are in fact new members of Coulson’s team. May, Skye, and Trip help save the new members. In a meeting with Coulson, May reveals to us that the new team members are just mercenaries motivated by money. But Coulson is fine with that so long as May can trust them.

Steve Carell & Keira Knightley Are an Unlikely Pair in the ‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World’ Trailer

by Matt Raub, Feb 10 2012 // 10:30 AM

Given that the Mayans had a portion of the population convinced that this is the last year on the planet, it makes sense that Hollywood would be willing to exploit the apocalypse by taking it to the world of Romantic Comedies. That’s exactly the plan from with Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.

From writer/director Lorene Scafaria, who last brought us Michael Cera and Kat Dennings running around New York City in Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist comes yet another lengthy-titled film. This time, the twist is a bit more enticing. Here’s the rundown.

Steve Carell and Keira Knightley star in the comedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, which marks the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Lorene Scafaria. Set in a too-near future, the movie explores what people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. As the respective journeys of Dodge (Carell) and Penny (Knightley) converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.

A full cast of funny, with folks like TJ Miller, Patton Oswalt, and Rob Huebel making the end of the world a bit funnier. Take a look at the trailer after the jump, and catch the flick on June 22nd.

‘Young Adult’ Gets A Vulgar Red Band Trailer

by Sebastian Suchecki, Nov 29 2011 // 9:00 AM

With Juno, Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman solidified themselves in cinematic history with Cody even winning an Oscar for best screenplay. So it makes sense the duo would try to strike gold again with a whole new gang of wacky characters and off-beat tone in their latest collaboration Young Adult.

That seems to be the plan for the movie, or at least what we can gather from this new red-band trailer. For those who need a bit more other than seeing the amazing cast of Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, and Patton Oswalt, here’s the synopsis:

Charlize Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.

Take a look at the new trailer after the jump in which Theron gets a bit nuts. Young Adult is set to hit theaters on December 9th.

Exclusive Interview: Creator Vernon Chatman Explains ‘The Heart, She Holler’

by Matt Raub, Nov 8 2011 // 8:30 AM

Last Sunday, Adult Swim premiered their newest foray into the realm of live action spoofs: The Heart, She Holler. Consider it Twin Peaks meets Passions with loads of incest and moments you can’t forget if you tried.

We got the chance to speak with the series’ star, Patton Oswalt, about the insanity of the show on Friday, and even he couldn’t do it justice with a description. Now, we’ve got the mastermind behind the show, Vernon Chatman, to shed some light on the its origin. Let’s see if he can do a better job.

Chatman is best known for some of the weirdest and funniest television of the past few years like Wonder Showzen, Xavier: Renegade Angel, and even doing tons of work (not to mention being the voice of “Towlie”) for South Park.

After the jump, check out what Chatman had to say about The Heart, She Holler, and catch the miniseries airing every night this week, and repeating every night after Sunday at 12:45pm, only on Adult Swim.

Exclusive Interview: Patton Oswalt Talks ‘The Heart, She Holler’, Why He’s Mad at DC Comics, More

by Matt Raub, Nov 4 2011 // 2:15 PM

Last night, those in the Los Angeles area were treated to a nice surprise. The hip folks over at Cinefamily’s Silent Movie Theater premiered the full miniseries of Adult Swim’s newest live action comedy, The Heart, She Holler. Opening to a packed house, the show definitely hit it big with this audience, incest jokes and all.

The show comes from the Vernon Chatman, the brilliantly twisted mind behind shows like Wonder Showzen and Xavier Renegade Angel. If you think you know anything about how Adult Swim picks their new content, you don’t know anything about this show. Here’s a brief synopsis that does little-to-no justice to the madness of the show.

Boss Hoss Heartshe owns 98.5% of Heartshe Holler and keeps the other 1.5% in a hidey hole.  Upon his death, the hole is opened to reveal a secret son, Hurlan. Watch as his blood grubbing heirs Hurshe, the coquettish daughter closest to Hoss’ heart and nether regions and Hambrosia, Hoss’ other only child with a fearsome ability to scorch eyeballs with her mental powers, wrestle for every sort of supremacy that power provides. Their miseries and mysteries collide in this first-ever Adult Swim six night miniseries event.

Think Twin Peaks meets Passions with a really sick spin.

We got the chance to sit down with comedy-flavored renaissance man and star of the show, Patton Oswalt, about what to expect from the show, who he doesn’t want to watch the miniseries, and what his problem with DC Entertainment is. Take a look at what he had to say after the jump.

Catch the premiere of The Heart, She Holler on Adult Swim Sunday, November 6th at 12:30am, followed by new episodes every night next week, and repeating every day this month.

Check Out A Sneak Preview of Adult Swim’s Live-Action Miniseries ‘The Heart, She Holler’

by Matt Raub, Oct 19 2011 // 9:00 AM

Adult Swim has been on an absolute tangent with their slew of live-action parody series. It all started with Rob Corddry’s webseries Childrens Hospital which is now going into its fourth season on the network, then Chris Elliot took off in a Walker, Texas Ranger spoof titled Eagleheart. Their latest venture into the third dimension of funny has been in Paul Scheer’s NTSF:SD:SUV::, which just got picked up for a second season.

Now, the network is hoping to capitalize on the growing popularity of the creepy horror shows that are shrouded in mystery but as original as bad soap operas. That’s where The Heart, She Holler comes in. Here’s the rundown.

The Heart, She Holler is a new live-action series starring Patton Oswalt, Kristen Schaal and Heather Lawless.

While Adult Swim may not be completely backing the idea with a full episode order, they are giving it a 6 episode miniseries run that will air every night starting on Sunday, November 6th at 12:30am and go through Friday, November 11th. Check out a preview of the series after the jump to see what awesomely random and horrifying stuff you’re in store for.

Best Casting News Ever: Patton Oswalt & Johnny Knoxville To Play Brothers

by Sebastian Suchecki, Aug 23 2011 // 9:00 AM

Not since the casting of John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell has news of two top-list comedians playing siblings been more exciting. That’s exactly the case as Johnny Knoxville and Patton Oswalt have been signed to play brothers in an upcoming beach comedy from executive producer David Gordon Green.

Johnny Knoxville and Patton Oswalt have signed on to star in an untitled comedy that will be directed by Todd Rohal and financed by Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf’s Big Beach Films. Knoxville and Oswalt will play battling brothers who attempt to honor their ailing father by taking a troop of boys on a camping trip. It all goes awry.

Rob Riggle, Maura Tierney and Patrice O’Neal also star. Rohal, who originally wrote the script under the title Scout Master, most recently directed The Catechism Cataclysm. Production on the new comedy starts this week.

With a cast like Riggle, O’Neal, Oswalt, and Knoxville, you can only expect the film from the same people that are bringing us Our Idiot Brother this Friday to blow the doors off of the off-beat indie comedy.

We expect to hear more (and hopefully a title) soon as production kicks in this week. Who else would you like to see join this upcoming comedy? Sound off!

Web Video Roundup: Every Harry Potter Movie in 7 Minutes, Juan of the Dead, & Carmageddon: The Movie

by The Flickcast, Jul 14 2011 // 8:00 AM

With Con season in full swing Big Bang Theory star Kelly Cuoco helps girls who have that embarrassing moment of realizing they’re the 1,000th Slave Leia at the party.

While it may not make any sense to people outside of the greater Los Angeles area, this trailer explaining the doom that will set in during Carmageddon this weekend is pretty spot-on.

Mob Wives is a pretty ridiculous show concept, but this Funny or Die spoof spells it out in 3 minutes better than we ever could.

Patton Oswalt has managed to find time in his schedule to star in a series of 5 second films. His newest one is both priceless and thought provoking.

Getting ready for the final Harry Potter film this Friday? Then you’re going to want to catch up with Every Harry Potter Film in 7 Minutes.

Pixar guru John Lasseter is a busy guy. How busy? Here’s a short film on exactly what it takes to be the man himself.

Some great new trailers out this week, including Cuba’s first horror film ever, titled Juan of the Dead, and it looks as good as the title is clever.

Who doesn’t love a good lightsaber battle? The only thing that could make it better is if the sound effects were completely done a capella.
