From Paris, With Hate

by Shannon Hood, Feb 5 2010 // 8:00 AM

You may notice that the word ‘Review’ is glaringly absent from the title today, because I can’t really give you a review of From Paris, With Love. That would require actually watching the whole movie.

But for the first time ever, I walked out of a screening. Let me recount the series of events that led to this drastic and unprecedented decision on my part.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I must mention that I have had a nasty cold all week, with bouts of insomnia to boot.  Just letting you know that I was not feeling my best to begin with. I also toyed with the idea of not covering the movie because John Travolta’s performance in The Taking Of Pelham 123 permanently scarred me.

Furthermore, the trailers for Old Dogs did little to boost my confidence in the actor’s career trajectory. However, I take my duties seriously, and decided to give it a shot.

John Travolta Kicks Windows, Uses Puns In New ‘From Paris With Love’ Clip

by Sebastian Suchecki, Jan 29 2010 // 3:00 PM

FromParisWithLove_1We’ve been known to give John Travolta a hard time around here, and we don’t mean to. The guy has got some serious acting chops, and he’s still getting work after all these years. Any actor/actress that has fa diverse set of ilms like like Broken Arrow, Pulp Fiction, Hairspray, and Look Who’s Talking on a resume deserves some credit, so we’ll give it to him.

His newest film, From Paris With Love, seems to throw Travolta into a role that was definitely meant for another actor, if not many. His image in this film is something we’ve never seen before (not counting Pelham) and it’s quite refreshing to see an actor reinvent himself over and over in a span of 40 years.

In a new clip from the Pierre Morel (Taken) film, Travolta, as special agent Charlie Wax, infiltrates an enemy hideout in an unconventional way. Check out the clip after the jump, and be sure to catch From Paris With Love in theaters on February 5th.

Second Trailer For ‘From Paris With Love’

by Sebastian Suchecki, Jan 5 2010 // 12:18 PM

from_paris_with_love_ver2On the heels of the news that Pierre Morel will be taking on the remake of Dune, is the second trailer for his next upcoming action flick, From Paris With Love. The film stars John Travolta as FBI Super-Agent Charlie Wax, who gets teamed up with an unsuspecting partner, who’s far from a field agent, James Reece (Jonathan Rhys Meyers).

The film looks like a bit of Casino Royale meets any buddy cop film from the late 80s. With Taken and District B13‘s Morel taking the helm and The Trasporter films writer Luc Besson taking on the script, you can bet that this film will be full of nonstop action. The only question remains; can Travolta pull off Parkour?

Check out the trailer after the jump, and decide for yourself. From Paris With Love hits theaters on February 5th worldwide.

‘Taken’ Director Taking On ‘Dune’ Remake

by John Muth, Jan 5 2010 // 9:00 AM

dune_frank_herbert

It’s been reported by Entertainment Weekly, that Pierre Morel – director of last year’s Taken, and the fun, French Parkour film, District B13, has signed on to direct the new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. The movie, which was originally to be helmed by Peter Berg, kind of fell to the wayside when Berg seemed to become more interested in the (clearly higher quality) property of Battleship: The Movie. The good news is that this means Dune could get many more scenes of throat-punching.

Paramount, the studio backing the new film, is also supposedly looking for a new writer to work on incorporating the sensibilities of the French director. Morel is apparently is looking to make a much closer adaptation than the previous version of the script by Quantum of Solace screenwriter, Josh Zetumer. In case you’re not familiar, Dune is the story of Paul Atreides, and the futuristic inter-galactic feudal system involving his family’s rule of the desert planet Arrakis.

The story explores the politics, religion, technology and ecology of it’s incredible in-depth universe. The book was previously made into a movie in 1984 by David Lynch, and been brought to television through a couple of mini-series on the Sci-Fi Channel.

New Trailer for ‘From Paris with Love’

by Sebastian Suchecki, Sep 21 2009 // 9:45 AM

from_paris_with_loveFollowing John Travolta’s film career is like watching a screaming child on a roller coaster. He looks like he’s having a lot of fun, but after a while, you begin to realize he’s just screaming to get your attention. We all remember when he was having fun in Grease, and then years later when he wasn’t in Battlefield Earth.

On that note, a new trailer for From Paris With Love has hit the webs and looks to be a bit of everything. There’s the girl-candy Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, there’s fight scenes for the dudes, explosions for the kids, and lots of innuendo for people who like that kind of thing. And then there’s John Travolta, who for some reason looks quite a lot like Denzel Washington. Could it be that this role was originally meant for Denzel and Travolta has that good of an agent? Or is he that good of an actor to make us believe that he, in fact, is Denzel Washington.

Check out the trailer after the jump and be the judge. From Paris with Love, written by Luc Besson (The Transporter) and directed by Pierre Morel (Taken), hits theaters in all of it’s almost-Denzel glory on February 9th, 2010.
