Feeling a little bummed that you couldn’t make it to SXSW this year? Feeling even worse because the people that did get to go got a sneak peak at Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming Predators film? Well, you can start feeling a little better because The Flickcast has you covered!
Fox was nice enough to post the premiere footage online for everyone to see and it looks pretty darn awesome. Directed by Nimród Antal, Predators follows the same kind of plot as the first film but with a fresh take on the subject matter:
“Official Plot Synopsis: Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.”
The synopsis sounds bad ass enough, but when you watch the clip you’ll certainly get that original Predator vibe (which is a good thing in this case). Predator 2 and subsequent films involving these intergalactic hunters really haven’t cut it (no pun intended) in my opinion. As such, it’s great to see Predators get back to the roots of this interesting character/creature.
Predators are set to invade movie theaters July 7, 2010. Click through to check out the sneak peak.

Sometimes a video needs an explanation so you can better understand its significance or its substance. Other times, a video needs no introduction and can stand on its own. This video is one of those second ones. But I’m still gonna give it one anyway.
Containing what could arguably be called some of the cheesiest movie lines of all time, the video captures what’s best and worst about the movies we love and helps us remember, at least in some small way, why we love them.
Movies, like life, are often imperfect. But that doesn’t stop them from being a hell of a lot of fun most of the time.
Click through to enjoy this video from YouTube user hh edits, which was first featured at Pajiba. I know I did.

Aliens vs Predator: Three World War #1 [of 6]
Dark Horse Comics – $3.50 US
Writer: Randy Stradley
Artist: Rick Leonardi
Score: 8/10
Machiko Noguchi has had her fill of aliens and predators, being the only person to spend any quality time with both species and live to tell about it. But when a rogue predator clan known as the “killers” slaughters a mining colony on Caparis VII and the Colonial Marines show her the startling footage, Noguchi realizes an unavoidable reunion is on the horizon.
While it’s been 15 years since writer Randy Stradley penned the Aliens vs Predator: War mini-series, to central character Noguchi it’s been 10 years since she stood side-by-side with a predator nick-named Broken Tusk against a horde of aliens and survived. In her time with the “hunters,” she came to understand their culture, including knowledge of a clan of predators that forego their sense of honor for the hunt and kill indiscriminately instead.
Believed to have been wiped out, the “killers” are in fact alive, and worse yet, they’ve found a way to not only control the “bugs,” but to use them as weapons as well. Stradley hits the ground running in this opening issue of this mini-series. Reading the aforementioned 1995 mini-series isn’t necessary – although I would recommend checking out the trade paperback as the story’s pretty good – thanks to the pace he sets in.

One of our favorte directors here at The Flickcast, Neil Marshall, is apparently in talks to take on another project that we’ve mentioned here before in connection with Robert Rodriguez. According to Bloody Disgusting, the man responsible for the super cool werewolves versus soldiers film Dog Soldiers, the cool spelunkers versus creatures film The Descent, and the sorta cool Rona Mitra versus everyone film Doomsday, may take on the reboot of the Predator franchise cleverly entitled Predators.
To be clear, this is just a rumor at this point. Nobody has signed anything on the line that is dotted and nobody is drinking any coffee yet (Look it up). Still, given Marshall’s experience with atmospheric creature films, his ability to make his movies look very good on a limited budget, and his experience with action, he may be a great choice to take on Predators.
But still, this is all rumor and speculation. For all we know, the studio could just be dangling Marshal in front of Robert Rodriguez to get him to commit to directing the film himself. Or, Marshall may actually be in real negotiations for the job?
No matter what the truth really is (And we may never know), things at least look to be moving forward on the Predator reboot front — something that, as a fan of the franchise who thinks it needs another chance, I couldn’t be happier about.

Yes, you read that right. Directly from the “please don’t ruin my childhood. . . again” department comes word, via MTV Movies Blog, that director Robert Rodriguez will begin filming a live action adaptation of the classic 60’s Hanna-Barbara cartoon The Jetsons sometime next year.
According to Rodriguez, he will be pushing forward on his sequel to 2007’s Grindhouse with Danny Trejo in Machete and he’s also working on the sci-fi thriller Nervrackers for the Weinstein Company set for release next April. No word on where this fits in with Rodriguez’s reboot of the Predator franchise or what this could mean for a sequel to Sin City, but the Texas native says that filming for Jetsons could start as soon as 2010.
The director has already stated that he’s dropped a remake of Barbarella due to the amount of time he’d be away from his family, so doing a remake/reboot of the classic 60’s cartoon family from space may just fill that sci-fi void that the scantily clad vixen could have.
Given Rodriguez’s track record with both kid-friendly adventures (Spy Kids, The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl) and adult-friendly horrors (Planet Terror, From Dusk til Dawn), what could this mean for our favorite childhood cartoon? Will his on-again off-again partner and friend Quinten Tarantino come aboard in any way, and will this be under the helm of Rodriguez’s long-term distributors, the Weinsteins? With production starting before 2011, these answers probably aren’t far behind.

Last week on The Flickcast, Chris, Matt and Christina discussed such exciting topics as new Transformers: Rise of the Fallen footage, the announcement that the Hobbit movie may end up being two movies instead of one, porn parodies of well-known films and TV shows and much more.
This week, Christina is out sick so Chris and Matt press on and dive right in to discuss new Predator and Robert Rodriguez news, upcoming potential blockbusters like X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Star Trek, the fate of TV shows like Dollhouse, Lost and Sons of Anarchy and lots more. They also made a couple of picks for the week including JCVD
featuring Jean Claude Van Damme and the original Manchurian Candidate
starring Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey and Janet Leigh.

Its reboot and remake week here at The Flickcast and this time around we’ve got another one for you. According to a report at IESB, director, writer, producer, editor and steadicam operator Robert Rodriguez announced plans today that he will be helming a re-boot of the Predator franchise called Predators.
Rodriguez made the announcement at a press conference in Texas for the signing of a new bill to help bring more film production into the state. Here’s the multi-talented hyphenate’s own words on the subject, as quoted in the article:
“I’m going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nervewrackers, a re-boot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons.”
So, it seems there’s going to be a lot of production going in in the Lone Star State in the coming months and years. Maybe its time to consider that move to Austin I’ve been thinking about? Of course the real question is do we actually need a reboot of the Predator franchise?
Update: There’s new information surfacing today from ERC that there is, in fact, a new Predator movie in the works but Robert Rodriguez has not taken on the role of writer/director — at least not yet. Instead, he’s producing the film and Fox has already given it a release data: July 7, 2010. Be careful what you wish for.
