The Flickcast 325: The One With the Clever Title

by The Flickcast, May 23 2016 // 1:00 PM

preacher-key-AMC-2016

That’s right. It’s time for a brand new episode of The Flickcast. And because we still don’t keep to a regular schedule these days, let’s say this one (like last week’s) arrived right on time. Cool? Cool.

On this week’s show Chris and Joe continue to discuss Captain America: Civil War, the next Ghostbusters movie, the new Star Trek series, the DCU shakeup, Superman v. Batman, Warner Brothers, Agent Carter and Joe finally watches Deadpool and is prepared to talk about it. Plus, a whole lot more.

Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the new AMC series Preacher and Joe’s pick of the original Independence Day.

As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship, or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at Facebook, Google+ or shoot us an email.

TV RECAP: ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Episode 205: ‘A Hen in the Wolf House’

by Eric Miller, Oct 27 2014 // 1:00 PM

Shield 205 Pic

It’s been a busy week folks, as you can see by the delay in this recap. Because of that, there will be no Arrow recap this week. Everything should be back to normal next week.

A Navy wedding is destroyed by spiked champagne. The victims look like they’ve been attacked by the obelisk. The men involved tell Bakshi that there were 8 deaths, but the others survived. Bakshi tells them Whitehall will not be pleased with these results.

Skye is becoming more combative with Coulson, trying to figure out what is wrong with him. He threatens her job and she reluctantly backs down.

Raina goes to Skye’s father, begging him to give her the obelisk. He is surprised that she is so scared of Whitehall, and urges her to beg Whitehall for mercy instead. He won’t give up the obelisk until he has Skye.

Simmons and her boss have been added to a team trying to reverse engineer the obelisk. The formula is not right yet, and Simmons suggests that they need some of the metal from the obelisk itself in order to get it right.

TV RECAP: ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Episode 204: ‘I Will Face My Enemy’

by Eric Miller, Oct 17 2014 // 2:00 PM

CLARK GREGG, MING-NA WEN

Before I go into the recap of this episode, I just wanted to provide an update on The Flash. I tried watching the second episode and couldn’t get two minutes into it. So I won’t be doing recaps for the show as I had originally planned. I never imagined that I wouldn’t like it. But not every show can work for every person. On the flip side, I am really enjoying Gotham, which I didn’t think would be that good. So the world gives and the world takes I guess.

Back to the world of Marvel. This week we are in Miami, where a local priest calls in a group of bishops to show them a miracle. Their church burned down, but one painting in the church survived without a scrape. It also as some weird alien drawings on the back of it.

Of course this of great importance to Coulson and May, so they setup and elaborate ruse to get the team to work with him to help get that painting. Coulson and May attend a fancy party hosted by the man in possession of the painting.

At the party, they see General Talbot. Coulson talks to him, figuring his cover is already blown. He gets Talbot to agree to not get involved. Later, General Talbot is seen talking to Whitehall on the phone about Coulson’s interest in the painting.

TV RECAP: ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Episode 202: ‘Heavy is the Hand’

by Eric Miller, Oct 2 2014 // 9:00 AM

HENRY SIMMONS, IAIN DE CAESTECKER, ELIZABETH HENSTRIDGE

Agent May arrives at the crash scene and attempts to help Hunter. He tells her to go after Creel, who has the 084. May takes off after him, and military police arrive and take Hunter into custody.

Coulson reveals that he stole the jet so his team could try and reverse engineer the cloaking technology, as Fitz does not have the brain capability to finish the project now. He also tells Skye that Hunter has been captured, and he fears Hunter may start talking.

The soldiers drop off Hunter in a random field, and he is picked up by General Talbot. Talbot wants Hunter to bring Coulson to him, and Hunter can name his own price. Hunter wants two million dollars and a proper burial for Hartley.

Mack tries to get Fitz to help him with the cloaking device, but Fitz say he can’t. Fitz is growing increasingly agitated and frustrated with himself. “Simmons” convinces Fitz to take some research files on Creel to try and come up with some tech to destabilize Creel’s powers.

Meanwhile, May has trailed Creel to a diner where he is presumably waiting to meet his HYDRA contact. While waiting, Creel accidentally touches the waitress, who turns to stone.

Hunter come back to S.H.I.E.L.D. and Trip is waiting for him. Hunter openly admits to Coulson that he made a deal with Talbot and has 48 hours to deliver Coulson. Hunter, however, believes that S.H.I.E.L.D. has a better shot of finding and capturing Creel.

TV RECAP: ‘Agents of Shield’ Episode 111: ‘The Magical Place’

by Eric Miller, Jan 9 2014 // 8:00 AM

Agents of Shield 111

Shield captures an alien artifact dealer, Vanchat, thinking he may know where Centipede is holding Coulson, as the type of artifact he was trying to fence is the same used by Centipede. While Director Hand is debriefing the team, an alert comes up about a breach in the system. Skye is trying to find the money trail from Vanchat to Centipede.

Hand wants Skye thrown off the plane, and May agrees that Skye is of no value to them on the plane. Everyone watching (but not Ward and Skye) realize this is a ploy to get her off the plane so she can have free reign to investigate as she pleases.  Ward and Fitz/Simmons allow Skye to escape before her debriefing.

Skye still has her scrambler bracelet on, so she is still unable to access any type of internet connection. She reads an article in a magazine about a local billionaire (Lloyd Rathman) who is under investigation and decides she can get him to help her. It made very little sense watching, and makes maybe even less sense now.

She manages to hang out at his office building until he arrives, and steals his car without any of the valets noticing. However, she has the bracelet, so she still can’t even use the GPS in his card. A well-placed advertisement for Onstar gives her the idea to crash the car and tell the Onstar representative to tow the car to “her house.”

TV RECAP: ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Episode 110: ‘The Bridge’

by Eric Miller, Dec 12 2013 // 9:00 AM

Agents of Shield 110 Pic

On this week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. three super soldiers break into a prison and help a man escape. S.H.I.E.L.D. identifies him as Edison Poe, a former US military man. Because of the inclusion of these super soldiers, Coulson is bringing in Mike Peterson to help in the case.

Skye is still trying to find the agent that dropped her off at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters as a baby. Coulson tells her that May is looking into some of the more classified documents. This is a lie, as Coulson does not want Skye to know the truth about her parents.

Peterson is happy to help S.H.I.E.L.D. as he is trying to be a better person and do some good. Coulson tells him that everyone deserves a second chance, but he will not get a third chance.

The team is able to identify one of the super soldiers as Brian Heyward. They find that his sister is a teacher in Ohio. Coulson and Ward go to pay her a visit. Ward pretends to be a member of the gaming commission claiming that Brian has won the lottery. His sister is immediately suspicious and calls Brian, allowing S.H.I.E.L.D. to track him to Oakland, California.

While driving, Coulson reveals to Ward that he has a lost love that moved on when everyone thought he was dead. Ward mentions the option of dating within S.H.I.E.L.D. and Coulson says that’s an even worse idea.
