The Flickcast’s ‘On the Radar’

by Bob Starr, Nov 5 2010 // 3:00 PM

Welcome to this week’s On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage this week. Let is know if we missed something interesting. Otherwise, on to the links!

• Joel McHale, proving to us once again that he’s the man, stopped by The Today Show to pimp Community and mock Kathy Lee and Hoda.

• Halloween may be over, but here are some awesome costumes you may have missed.

• People and their damned streaming. Internets everywhere have been clogged up by the massive use of Netflix over the past week.

• A laptop desk that you can attach to your steering wheel? Not since the first porn film played on a portable in-car DVD player has another device potentially caused so many accidents.

• Miss last Sunday’s pilot of AMC’s The Walking Dead? Well lucky for you, the episode is currently online in its entirety.

• Getting your list on, as usual, here are 10 of the best lessons taught to us by comics.

• A group of die hard Harry Potter fans gathered in the center of Grand Central to reenact one of their favorite scenes. New Yorkers were not phased.

• It looks like he may not have found another Alias after all, as J.J. Abrams’ Undercovers has officially gotten the boot from NBC.

The Event, Outsourced and More Get Full Season Orders from NBC

by Joe Gillis, Oct 19 2010 // 12:00 PM

Great news for fans of Outsourced, The Event or Law and Order: Los Angeles, those shows have all been picked up for a full season by NBC. Getting what’s called the “back nine” green light means you will continue to see these shows for the rest of the current TV season. That is, if their ratings hold out.

In addition to these shows, a similar pickup for Chase is supposedly on the way as well as one for Chuck. Those announcements are expected later this week. Meanwhile, Undercovers is close to receiving an order for additional scripts but not additional episodes, at least for now.

In a statement about the decisions, NBC’s primetime entertainment president Angela Bromstad indicated that the network brass didn’t focus on the ratings when deciding what to do. “We are pleased with the quality of The Event, Law & Order: Los Angeles and Outsourced, and feel they are an important part of helping to re-build our schedule and our studio pipeline,” she said. “We believe in these new series and the creative auspices behind them.”

Let’s hope that’s true, especially in the case of Chuck and The Event, two shows we’ve definitely got programmed into The Flickcast’s office TiVo. As for the others, we’ve not really gotten into Law and Order and as Chris and Matt have expressed on the podcast, we’re not fans of Outsourced either. So, if those shows don’t make it we probably won’t be too disappointed.

Expect more developments such as this from NBC and the rest of the networks during the coming weeks.

Check Out Five New Preview Clips for ‘Undercovers’

by Joe Gillis, Sep 10 2010 // 12:00 PM

As we’ve been doing a lot lately, we’ve got another huge bunch of previews for another Fall TV show to share with you today. This time around the previews are for the new J.J. Abrams show Undercovers.

In case you’re not familiar with the series, here’s a little bit of info on its plot and characters:

Outwardly, Steven Bloom (Boris Kodjoe) and his wife, Samantha (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), are a typical married couple who own and operate a small catering company in Los Angeles. Secretly, the duo were two of the best spies the CIA had ever known, until they fell in love on the job five years ago and retired.

When fellow spy and good friend Leo Nash (Carter MacIntyre) goes missing while on the trail of a Russian arms dealer, the Blooms are reinstated by boss and agency liaison, Carlton Shaw (Gerald McRaney), to locate and rescue Nash. Following leads that take them to cities spanning the globe, Steven and Samantha quickly realize that perhaps this supercharged, undercover lifestyle provides exactly the kind of excitement and romance that their marriage has been missing.

Okay that’s the story. Now, to help you learn even more, we’ve got those videos we told you about after the jump including the full length trailer, interviews with the show’s two leads and and interview with the man himself J.J. Abrams. Check them out. Undercovers premieres September 22nd on NBC.

Then with Law & Order LA this new promo links East Coast with West as the cops and lawyers of SVU and LOLA get fans ready for the Fall. We’ve also got interview with cast members Corey Stoll and Skeet Ulrich as they discuss their characters on the show.

For Outlaw the supporting members of Cyrus Garza’s legal team dish on what it’s like working with Jimmy Smits, answer fan questions and give you a preview of the series. Finally, with Undercovers this new promo profiles the show’s lead couple, Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (aka Steven and Samantha Bloom), the two spies who will be saving the world this Fall.

Check Out Previews for a Whole Slew of Fall Shows Including ‘Chuck’, ‘Undercovers and ‘The Event’

by Joe Gillis, Aug 23 2010 // 3:00 PM

We often bring you previews of current and upcoming TV programs and today is no exception. Some of these shows are brand new for the Fall and some, in the case of Chuck, are not new but returning and we’ve already covered them quite a bit before.

Today, we’ve got previews for The Event, Chase, Undercovers and, as I said, Chuck. For The Event Nick Wauters has three videos from his production diary which give you access to the set and series star Jason Ritter. Next up on Chase stars Kelli Giddish, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Jesse Metcalfe and Rose Collins talk about the action-packed series.

For Undercovers we’ve got interviews with cast members Mekia Cox and Carter MacIntyre who talk about their characters and what the atmosphere is like on set. Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got a Chuck video where the cast and crew discuss the “bromance” between Chuck and his pal Morgan.

Check out all the videos after, of course, the jump. Look for all of these shows this Fall.

Check Out New Previews for ‘Undercovers’ and ‘Outsourced’

by Joe Gillis, Aug 17 2010 // 3:00 PM

Continuing our preview of upcoming Fall shows today we’ve got some new ones for a couple of NBC programs. One is a drama called Undercovers and one is a comedy called Outsourced and both look pretty good.

First up is Undercovers. According to our pals at the network this clip is about the following: “Jet-setting and saving the world is part of the job description for the Blooms. Look at some of the exotic locales the spy couple will travel to in JJ Abrams’ Undercovers this fall.”

Next up we’ve got Outsourced. Again according to the network this clip will do the following: “Get the series’ hilarious take on the cultural differences in the dating world.” You can bet those differences will lead to more comic hijinks than you can possibly image.

Check out both of the previews after the jump. Look for these two shows, and many more, to debut soon.

by Joe Gillis, Jul 28 2010 // 12:00 PM

This week on The Flickcast Chris and Matt are recovering from Comic-Con in San Diego but are still managing to do a show this week. Some of the topics they cover this time around include thoughts on several NBC pilots like Outsourced, The Event, Undercovers and Chase. Also, the boys discuss the new Sucker Punch trailer and director Zack Snyder, potential X-Men First Class casting and a bit more about the fun and some issues with Comic-Con.

They also made some picks this week including Matt’s pick of Blazing Saddles on Blu-ray and Chris’ pick of the Stanley Kubrick film Full Metal Jacket.

As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at Facebook and MySpace or via email.

Four More Clips and Interviews for J.J. Abrams ‘Undercovers’

by Joe Gillis, Jul 2 2010 // 12:00 PM

Friday has sorta turned into “Clip Friday” around The Flickcast offices seeing as how we tend to bring you previews of shows quite a bit at the end of the week. However, even though we do it frequently, that doesn’t make it any less fun — especially when the show being previewed today comes from none other than J.J. Abrams.

The show is Undercovers and we’ve brought you some info on it previously including a bit on the plot and a couple previews. Now, we’ve got even more to show you: Interviews with some of the cast and Abrams himself as well as a never-before-seen clips from the new show.

Pay close attention to the interview with Abrams because he talks about his love of the spy genre and also mentions another of our favorite shows that we’ve discussed arond here recently.

Click through for all the clips. Be sure to check out Undercovers when it premieres on NBC in the Fall and follow the show via Facebook and Twitter.

The 2010 and 2011 Network Pilot Orders

by Chris Ullrich, Feb 19 2010 // 1:00 PM

It’s no secret we love TV. We watch it, talk about it, review it and generally spend a lot of time with it. So, it should come as no surprise we’re very interested in what new shows may potentially be coming to the networks in the near future.

Fortunately, we don’t have to do a lot of work to find out, and you have to do even less, because the guys and gals at EW have gathered together lists of all of the 2010-2011 season pilot orders for ABC, CBS and NBC. Wasn’t that nice of them? Yes, yes it was.

Just between these three networks (we’ll bring you Fox and the others, including cable, later), 31 dramas and 29 comedies are being considered. What shows will make it to the Fall schedule is still anyone’s guess, and we’ll have to wait until May to find out, but still, it’s fun to take a look at these pilots and imagine what could be.

Be warned, this is a rather long list. However, it’s kinda interesting to see the direction the networks are taking. Read on and let us know if you think any of these sound like a show you would watch.

ABC

Dramas

187 Detroit (writer Jason Richman). A light-hearted look at Detroit’s top homicide division.

Body of Evidence (Chris Murphey). A procedural about a female medical examiner who used to work as a neurosurgeon.

Cutthroat (Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters). A dramedy about a single mother who operates an international drug cartel from Beverly Hills.

Edgar Floats (Rand Ravich). A police psychologist becomes a bounty hunter.
