“Oh, I’ll get to it eventually…” is not only the phrase I use most, but it could easily be the title of my autobiography. If you’re a geek like myself, you know just how hard it is to find time to check out all that amazing pop culture you’ve been missing out on. Not usually one to take stock in New Year resolutions, I decided to buckle down and give it a whirl; but with a geektastic spin. . .
You won’t find “lose weight,” “quit coffee” or any other proclamation on my list that will fade into obscurity within a matter of days; no ma’am. Instead what you’ll find are numerous forms of media/properties that I’ve yet to experience, ranging from books and comics to television and web series; and everything in between. Some of it has yet to be released while others are decades old, but that’s alright! Better late than never, and all that.
I feel the need to fill certain gaps in my ever-expanding geekness; like finally reading Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (and see how the movie stacked up). I want to read Alan Moore’s comic work that doesn’t spotlight any Watchmen or the Joker’s photography hobby, so Saga of the Swamp Thing, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and V For Vendetta are all on my radar. I also want to visit another of Joss Whedon’s universes, and Firefly, Serenity and all the comic tie-ins are eagerly awaiting my arrival.

In the shiniest news this side of Persephone, Fox Digital Entertainment and QMx Interactive Inc. have announced the development of the officially licensed video game, Firefly Online. The multi-user, social online role-playing game is expected to be released in the summer of 2014.
“At QMx, we know firsthand how great and powerful a franchise Firefly is and how mighty the Browncoats are,” said Andy Gore, CEO of QMXi and Quantum Mechanix Inc. “It has always been our mission to bring the Verse to life for our customers in every way possible. The idea of creating an interactive experience where fans can have their own Firefly adventures — well, that’s just too shiny for words.”
Firefly Online puts players in the role of a ship captain where they must, as Captain Mal says, “Find a crew. Find a job. Keep flying.” Players will have the ability to customize their ship, create a crew, trade with and compete against other players, engage in space and planet-side adventures and explore the Verse. The only question left for players is, can any power in Verse stop you?

Hey, nobody would be happier than we would if Firefly came back to TV. Or, if they did another movie sequel or prequel to Serenity. Sadly, even though Josss Whedon is a huge success with Avengers, we don’t think either of those is a real possibility.
However, that isn’t stopping Science Channel, which runs the original Firefly series pretty much every day, from doing a new TV special about the show. That’s right, to celebrate the cult-classic’s 10th anniversary, the channel is shooting said one-hour special, called Browncoats Unite, at the the Firefly cast reunion at Comic-Con this week.
“Firefly is a landmark work of science fiction and a favorite with our viewers,” said Debbie Myers, general manager and executive vp of Science. “Ever since it premiered on Science, fans have asked us to do something special to mark its 10-year anniversary. With this signature celebration, punctuated by Browncoats Unite, we will connect the minds behind this classic franchise with its legions of passionate fans.”
Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion are expected to appear on Friday’s panel. In addition, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher and writer Tim Minear are also expected. Browncoats Unite will air on Science, along with an all-day marathon of Firefly episodes, on Sunday, Nov. 11.

Yes fans, the show that most believe was canceled way too early is coming back to TV once again. That show is, of course, Joss Whedon’s Firefly. Sadly, it won’t be for brand new episodes or anything like that.
Instead, the Science Channel will air the series in its entirety, plus some new and pretty cool extras. The channel will wrap each episode of the show with interstitial segments starring renowned physicist Dr. Michio Kaku (who you might remember form the days of Leo Laporte’s Screen Savers show on Tech TV), who will discuss the science behind the show’s sci-fi concepts.
According to 20th Century Fox, the studio that originally produced the show and also killed it early, this will be the first time Firefly has aired on basic cable channel since 2008, when it ran on USA Network. Firefly premieres on Science Channel on March 6 at 8 p.m., with the two hour pilot, followed by the first episode at 10 p.m.
Following that, Firefly episodes will air every Sunday. Don’t worry, they will be their original intended order and upgraded to high definition. At least they got that part right.

Only a few actors can say they’ve run the gambit in the world of fan-friendly projects. Having worked with Joss Whedon at least twice, voiced Superman, worked on several Halo video games, and co-starred in everyone’s favorite nerd spy comedy Chuck, Adam Baldwin is one of those actors.
Last season on Chuck, Baldwin’s Colonel Casey went through quite a bit. He’s now reunited with his daughter and has a brand new partner in Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez). Along with working on the next season of Chuck, Baldwin has also taken time to return to voice Superman in Sony’s upcoming DC Universe Online video game.
We got the chance to discuss Baldwin’s character’s direction in the upcoming season of Chuck, as well as returning to play The Man of Steel.
Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be sure to catch all new episodes of Chuck this Fall on NBC.

Last time on The Flickcast Five, we brought you some of our favorite movies based on video games, as we prepped for the release of Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. This time around, we’re switching gears a bit (not much, though) as we ready ourselves for this weekend’s release of The A-Team, of course based on the original TV series from the 70’s. We bring you our favorite films based on TV shows.
Sure, there are some pretty bad adaptations from TV to film, such as Cedric the Entertainer’s Honeymooners, Christopher Lloyd’s My Favorite Martian, Leslie Nielson’s Mr. Magoo, and many more. Though we could go on, we wanted to focus on some of the better adaptations, as we think the upcoming A-Team will be quite entertaining, as a film like that should be.
Join us after the jump as each of the staff picks some of their favorite films based on successful (or not so successful) TV shows. And don’t worry, trekkies, your beloved most definitely makes the list.

This week on The Flickcast Chris and Matt chat about one of the bigger cultural events of this past weekend, the MTV Movie Awards. They delve into why people actually watch the awards, and some of their favorite moments. Plus, they talked all things iPhone 4, which was just announced this week.
Also, the boys weighed in on some pretty big casting news for Marvel fans with Stanley Tucci, Neal McDonough and Jeremy Renner joining various upcoming movies. Plus, they debated the various actors in the running to play the title role in the new Spider-Man reboot.
This week’s picks stayed in the realm of science fiction as Chris picked the recently released movie Splice, which is currently in theaters. Matt also stayed inside the sci-fi world as he picked the comic Serenity: Float On, which takes place after the film, and is written by comedian Patton Oswalt.

Fans of ABC’s V will be pulling up to the TV set tonight, as the first season comes to an end it what looks to be an epic season finale. All season long, we’ve gotten the chance to chat with stars of the show such as Scott Wolf, Laura Vandervoort, Logan Huffman, and Joel Gretsch.
Now, we bring you one of the baddies of the show, in fact: the baddest: Morena Baccarin, who plays Anna. Morena is no stranger to science fiction, as she got her first big break working on Joss Whedon’s Firefly as Malcom Reynolds’ (Nathan Fillion) love interest, Inara.
After the jump, check out our interview with Morena where she gives away a few cool things you might see in tonight’s episode, as well as her interest in working with Joss once again on The Avengers.
Of course, be sure to catch the season finale of V tonight at 10/9C on ABC.

In case you’re not familiar with the story of actor Steven Baldwin. He’s had a long career, was pretty popular and did some decent movies, including The Usual Suspects. But now, according to reports, he’s broke and needs money.
So, what do celebrities do when they’re broke and need money? They turn to the Internets of course. Although, according to the site established by a Christian ministry for Baldwin he didn’t commission them to put it together, they are just doing it to help out the actor.
What does all this have to do with Joss Whedon and his ass-kicking chicks? Glad you asked. Watch the video after the jump and all will be revealed in a pretty hilarious way.
Enjoy and don’t say we never gave you anything good.

It seems the prayers of geeks everywhere are going to be answered as Joss Whedon is reportedly in final negotiations to direct The Avengers movie for Marvel Studios. This comes after rumors have been circulating for weeks that the Buffy, Firefly and Dollhouse creator was on the short list of possible helmers that would take on the project.
Marvel’s Avengers is to be a massive superhero team-up film featuring characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Nick Fury and many others all assembling to fight bad guys and rally to save the world. Needless to say this film will be a huge undertaking for all involved and a giant, expensive release for Marvel.
I have to say that this news is still somewhat surprising given Whedon’s track record. His shows (Dollhouse, Firefly) get canceled by the networks, his one decent-sized feature film, Serenity, performed modestly at the box office and he seems to have a tendency to get kicked around a bit by “the powers that be” in Hollywood — which, of course, is one of the reasons fan’s love him. However, he is a tremendously talented writer, of that there is no doubt. Plus, he can direct.
It just seems like a very large and important project for a studio to take a chance on someone that’s never done a very large project before. Hollywood is not known for taking chances. They definitely prefer as much of a sure thing as they can get. And make no mistake, if Whedon is getting this job, somebody is taking a chance.
That said, I firmly believe he can do it and do it extremely well. He’s a smart, talented and thoughtful man. Plus, I’m just pretty damn psyched for the idea. I’m just still sorta amazed its actually happening. Maybe some of those “powers that be” in Hollywood are not as lame as I thought?
How about you guys? Do you think Joss Whedon is the right man to direct The Avengers? Assemble and sound off in the comments.
