Well, here we are, a couple of episodes into the final season of Chuck. I predict this season there will be a lot of Subway sandwiches eaten, a choice Jeffster performance, and a plethora of geeky references. The training wheels are off, as Chuck has lost the intersect and Morgan is the new ace in the hole. The spy in tennis shoes and his team of rogue spies aren’t out for the count yet, though.

The Flickast: Chuck’s brother-in-law, Devon, has the nickname “Captain Awesome”. On a scale of 1 to 10, how awesome are you?

Ryan McPartlin: 10 being the most awesome? We have to clarify. (TF: Yes, 10 being the most awesome). It depends on what we’re talking about, like I feel I’m a really awesome dad and husband, so I’m a 10 at that area. But, there’s a lot of things that I can’t dedicate my time to that I think I could be really awesome at, like for instance, golf.

TF: What does Casey think of teaching the spy tricks of the trade all over again, this time to Morgan?

We had the opportunity to sit down with the cast of USA’s hit show Psych about a police consultant with an uncanny ability to pick up clues, almost psychically, some would say.  This season the detectives have more on their minds then just solving wacky crimes and spotting pineapples.

With love blooming in the air for even the most skeptical (I’m talking to you Lassie), I decided to question the cast on their pursuit of romance.

The Flickcast: Can you tell us what your favorite episode to shoot was this season?

Timothy Omundson as Carlton “Lassie” Lassiter: We did an episode that James [Roday] directed, which he and Todd [Harthan, producer] wrote called, “This Episode Sucks”, it’s a vampire episode, but to me it’s important because it’s the Lassiter falls in love episode.

Of all the networks out there, both major “big four” and smaller, Adult Swim is one of our favorites. They have some of the funniest and most unusual (in a good way) programming on TV and we watch pretty much all of their shows religiously.

Obviously, we’re happy to hear that today Adult Swim has announced its new schedule of programming for the Fall of 2011 into 2012. Here’s all the scoop on new and returning shows from the official press release:

With the last season of Smallville swiftly moving along, The Flickcast decided to talk to one of the most convoluted characters to reside in the sleepy town, Tess Mercer. She’s been a good girl, bad girl, and somewhere in between- so in essence a real woman.

Popping on the scene as the mysterious heir and CEO to LuthorCorp in Season 8, she’s since been through many tenuous trials. She’s fought to save humanity, albeit killing a few in her way.

She’s survived multiple deaths, multiple kryptonite-fueled personalities of Clark Kent, and multiple conspiracies. The best is yet to come.

The Flickcast: You were first cast in Season 8 of Smallville, did you think the show would continue for many more seasons?

Cassidy Freeman: I thought this was a one year job. I mean they signed me on for three, so they had me if they wanted me for three. But I was told maybe a year and every year we get renewed. It’s almost like a roller coaster ride of a path. I feel like the end of this series has had such strength to it.

I mean, I’ve watched it all in wanting to get familiar with the show and I’m not saying that just because I’m in it, but I think that they’ve taken some chances and we’re more grown-up and I really, really enjoy being in it and watching it.

TF: Tess Mercer’s walked as much on the side of light as that of dark. What are your thoughts on playing this complex character?

With the last season of Smallville off to a rollicking good start, we snatched up the chance to sit down with Smallville long-time executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson. While they were a touch shy about spilling the Kryptonite on this season’s surprises, we never-the-less used our super strength to investigate the return of former cast members and historic episode 200 (set to air October 15th).

It seems this season will be strewn with super heroes and villains from across the galaxy.  Giving Kal-El a run for his money, Laura Vandervoort returns in brilliant blue and red style as Supergirl in episode 3, airing October 8th.

The Flickcast: Can you tell us about any plans to bring back favorite cast members from past seasons?

Brian Peterson: Having Annette O’Toole back as Martha Kent and Michael McKean as Perry White- we worked all season to get that to happen. It was fantastic, they were so great, it was such a great episode.

We’d like to, it’s hard because all of these actors, it’s not always up to us, like they have TV shows and careers and theater. You know Glover, we would love to have John Glover back and that man is on Broadway from the beginning of the year until the end of the year.

So, that’s our goal, absolutely, to try to get people like Perry, and Martha Kent, and Lionel Luther back, or at least maybe an appearance.

FC: Last season, Smallville‘s epic episode entitled, “Absolute Justice”, featured the monumental members of the Justice Society. Any talk of a Justice Society spin-off series? Will any members of the Justice Society be making future appearances this season?

BP: I know people are so excited about that and right now, to my knowledge, there are not (spin-off series). I think there’s always opportunities.

But as far as episodes, we’re definitely going to have some of the Justice Leaguers and Justice Society people back in the show for sure (check out episode 2). But as far as a spin-off, I wish that was something I could see into the future and know, but I don’t know.

With the new season of Smallville fast approaching this Friday on the CW, The Flickcast took the opportunity to sit down with Justin Hartley, aka the Green Arrow. He was laid-back, insightful, and of course easy on the eyes.

DC Comic’s Green Arrow has made headlines recently for taking care of bad guys anti-hero style. Smallville‘s Oliver Queen is no different, albeit he had a certain explosive panache when he nixed Lex Luthor. The perceptive and pensive Justin Hartley had much to say about his character’s path towards enlightenment this season.

The Flickcast: What excites you the most about getting the green light another, final season?

Justin Hartley: The final season, we’re excited. I think I speak for everyone when I say that. The cool thing about this year, and I’m sure you’ve heard this before, is that there’s all these…little tidbits that haven’t quite been sewn up yet.

It’s interesting because usually they go, “Well we’re going to tie it up next year or at the end of it,” and they plan on tying it up whenever. But it’s like go-time so they kind of have to tie it up now. So hopefully we’ll get, maybe even one of those (questions answered) every episode. They’re doing it the right way.

It’s really cool, especially for all those people who have been watching the show for a long time, that we did find out that we had a final season and then we’re going to shoot it. Instead of at the end of nine finding out that there is no final season. So we have the opportunity to do that- which is pretty awesome.

It’s nice that an entire network has decided to devote itself to the pursuit of Sci-Fi movies and TV programs. After all, before Syfy (previously known as Sci-Fi) we geeks had to seek our reruns of Star Trek and monster of the week movies elsewhere. Believe me, it was no easy task.

And finding anywhere that was running not one or two but several Sci-Fi TV series at the same time, forget about it. Fortunately, the Sci-Fi Channel changed all that and now, re-branded as just Syfy, they continue to push the envelope and bring us even more compelling content each and every year.

With that in mind we’ve got a new promo for you today highlighting all the upcoming Fall shows new or returning to Syfy. Among them you’ll see fan favorites Caprica, Sanctuary, Ghost Hunters and Stargate: Universe and some new shows you’ve probably not heard about yet.

Even though Comic-Con was over a week ago that doesn’t stop us from having a bunch of content we just couldn’t fit in during our normal coverage of the event. So, expect to see Comic-Con related videos, photos, interviews, etc for quite some time still.

Continuing that trend, we’ve got some cool video for you from the Con right here. One is from Community, a show we really love and the other is from The Cape, a show that looks like something we will most likely love — at least from what we’ve seen of the show so far.

In these videos you can see the Community cast, including Joel McHale, Chevy Chase and Alison Brie, share their glowing impressions of the passionate and devoted fans they met at Comic-Con. Plus, listen close for a few hints on what’s coming next season. Plus, the cast of The Cape, including Vinnie Jones, Martin Klebba and Summer Glau,  gives a great preview of the series.

Julie Benz appears to have gone from victim to hero in one fell swoop. After leaving behind Rita Morgan after four seasons on Dexter, the actress is primed to portray Stephanie Powell on ABC’s upcoming family show, No Ordinary Family.  No longer the dead body in the bathtub, Powell is a busy professional scientist and researcher who develops super speed following a crash landing in the Amazon on a trip with her family. After deciding to move on from Dexter, Renz related that she was looking for a new challenge and the character of Stephanie was just what she was looking for.

“When pilot season started, my quest was to find a character that was strong female character, a character that is more active than Rita. I was getting offered a lot of parts that were similar to her and I was turning them down because I wanted to find something that was different.”

While there might be the temptation to compare Rita with Stephanie, Benz insists that she didn’t pull inspiration from portraying a mother on a previous show. For one thing, the personalities are incredibly different.

“I think they’re both mothers, but other than that, there’s really no commonality. Rita was not career driven at all, she was very dependent, very damaged with a lot of  vulnerabilities, very emotional. Stephanie’s very controlled, a Type A personality, goal oriented and has a hard time interacting with her own family.”

In his first TV show since retiring the role of Vic Mackey in The Shield, Michael Chiklis will soon be bounding into your living room as Jim Powell, a police sketch artist who receives the supernatural powers of super-strength, the ability to be bullet-proof and can leap buildings in a…well, you get the idea.

We caught up with Chiklis at San Diego’s Comic-Con and talked to him about his upcoming role and how it is and isn’t a departure from characters he’s portrayed in the past. After all, how do you follow up Vic Mackey by playing another cop?

“Here we have a family show at its core, wrapped in a police procedural, wrapped in a superhero show. That’s something I’ve not seen before. If The Shield lacked any credibility at all, it was the fact that Mackey didn’t have an aneurysm. Seven years of that can wreck havoc on your nervous system and it’s really kind of great and refreshing to do something that I can sit with my family and watch. My eleven year old was starting to question whether I was even an actor. She’s like, ‘dad, do you really act? I can’t see anything you’re in.’”

The concept behind No Ordinary Family will sound familiar to Fantastic Four and The Incredibles fans, but there hasn’t been an adaptation in this vein developed for television in recent memory. Sure, four characters get powers (strength, super speed, telepathy and super intelligence) and yes, it’s combined within a family that is struggling to stay connected and important to each other. But what would you rather see? Superheroes or more Cops?

“I thought it was long overdue. I did the Fantastic Four movies and I’ve been a comic book geek for a long time, since I was a kid. It’s funny though, a bunch of people have said to me, almost as if there’s been tons and tons of superhero shows on television, and to mind, I only can think of one, really in the last 20 years, which is Heroes, which is a decidedly different show.

But I’m thinking, we’re on cop show 475,000 and no one goes, ‘oh really, another cop show?!’ And some people are all, oh you’re going to play another superhero again? Yes! This place (Comic-Con) isn’t getting smaller. Now they’re making more money at Comic-Con than they did at the SuperBowl. This is a genre that’s here to stay. And it’s only natural as a genre to explore the different shapes of it.”

We’ve been following the networks as they announce their premiere dates and shows for the upcoming Fall season and now we’ve got the official word from CBS on what shows will premiere when on the network.

Some of the shows we’re looking forward to include the debut of Hawaii Five-O, The Big Bang Theory season four premiere, the return of the original NCIS and the debut of $#*! My Dad Says with William Shatner. It will be nice to have one of our favorite shows in The Big Bang Theory back as well as get to experience these new ones.

With Comic-Con coming up this week comes all sorts of new shows, panels and previews for new TV shows. One show we’ve been following for some time, The Event, and a relatively new one for us, Outsourced. Both look interesting and we are looking forward to seeing them once they debut in the Fall.

In the meantime, as we do often, we’ve got previews for both shows from our friends at NBC to share with you today. First up is The Event where we see The President being rather Presidential and demanding to know what The Event is all about. The President doesn’t know? When something is this Top Secret, you know it’s gonna be big. And by big I mean good.

Next up is Outsourced. In this preview we meet some of the actors from the show and learn more about their characters. I’m sure we’ve all had amusing experiences with customer service from other countries so this show should be pretty funny. Plus, interesting accents are always a plus.

Bonus: If you’re attending Comic-Con in San Diego, be sure to check out The Event panel, which will be taking place on Saturday, July 24th at 11:15a in Ballroom 6A. They will also be Tweeting the panel live so if you’re not in San Diego, you can follow the action that way.
