Looks like HBO is doing some house cleaning before the new year as the network has decided to cancel several of its shows and give at least one another chance. That’s right, if you’re a fan of Hung, How to Make It in America or Bored to Death, you’re probably not going to like what I’m about to tell you: HBO has canceled all three of those shows.

The network has decided to give the Laura Dern comedy Enlightened at least one more season, however. So, if you’re a fan of that show, at least the day isn’t a total loss for you.

Of the three getting the axe today, I’m particularly sad to see Bored to Death go. I really liked it and its quirky blend of humor and drama. Plus, the three leads: Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis really worked well together. Bummer.

I’m also a bit disappointed to see How to Make It In America go as well, mostly because it had the awesome Luis Guzman and the fetching Lake Bell in it. Plus, I was really interested in finding out, you know, how to make it in America. Now I’ll never know.

I gave the Enlightened pilot a chance, but it din’t grab me. Oh well, kudos to Mike White and star Laura Dern. You’ve got another season to make it sing. Break a leg.

Last month’s television show finales like LOST, 24 and Chuck more were packed with emotional endings and incredible cliffhangers. But while there might not be many new TV shows on the horizon for June, it’s always nice to get a bunch of shows returning that you’ve been looking forward to.

The HBO Bunch

Summer is when HBO shines. This month we have returning True Blood, Hung, and Entourage, three of the network’s biggest shows of the entire year.

Last fall, True Blood ended with a cliffhanger, as the second Sookie agreed to marry Bill he completely disappeared. This season, things are sure to heat up between Sook and Eric in Bill’s absence, and with the arrival of werewolves Sookie’s loyalty is bound to be tested. True Blood returns Sunday June 14th at 10 PM.

The first season of Hung was absolutely amazing, and the show is no less relevant with America’s economy still in turmoil and in need of a few good laughs. Hung returns to HBO on June 27th.

Entourage is returning this summer for its seventh season, which will revolve around Vince’s new role in an apocalyptic drama. Expect to see some interesting guest stars including John Stamos, Bob Saget and Jessica Simpson. Vince and the rest of the gang also return to your TV on June 27th.

2009 has been a great year for TV. Everyone’s favorite shows like The Office, Lost, Weeds, and True Blood continued with some killer seasons, new shows like Trauma, Castle, and Lie to Me caught audience’s interests. We’ve got a list for you of our favorite TV shows of this year, including some of the latest and greatest of 2009 as well as some old favorites.

Glee – Fox

Glee has stolen viewer’s hearts this season not just with its love triangles and intense drama, but also the song and dance that the students in William McKinley High School’s glee club perform. The mid-season finale just aired, and it surely made “gleeks” even more anxious for the rest of the season, which will air beginning April 13th.

Not only has Glee swept the nation’s TV sets, but also it’s iTunes playlists. The first soundtrack to the season has already gone gold, while the second soundtrack is climbing the charts in the top 5.

True Blood – HBO

Where the Twilight series fails to thrill audiences, True Blood succeeds. Just finishing its action packed and hair-raising second season, the show, based off Charlaine Harris’ vampire mystery series continues to confuse us, surprise us, and make our blood boil with such storylines as an anti-vampire cult, a love triangle, and flying Eric, all in this season alone!

Previously, we gave you some info about the new HBO show Hung, featuring Thomas Jane as a guy with problems, no money and no choice who ends up using the one big asset he has left to make a living. Yes, I’m talking about his penis. There, I said it. The show is about a guy who with a large penis who becomes a prostitute and uses his penis to make a living.

Moving past that, reviews of the show and mentions of it online have all made one “penis” joke or another because the show is, ostensibly, about a guy’s member and most people who write tv reviews these days, particularly online, tend to act like ten year old boys. Of course, the crazy kids at Jimmy Kimmel Live decided to take it one step further and made a video to show you exactly what that means. But really, can you blame them? The show is about a guy’s penis after all.

No, the video doesn’t feature any Thomas Jane nudity, sorry ladies. It is, however, quite funny and worth a look. Hung airs Sundays at 10PM on HBO. Check out the video after the jump.

Coming to you directly from the “this sounds interesting but could really end up sucking” department (yes, we have on of those here at The Flickcast) is this bit of news from Variety about a new series for HBO called Hung. The show, which stars Thomas Jane (The Punisher), concerns a man with a rather large member (read penis) who decides he wants to make some money with it. Yes, you read that correctly.

How does he want to make money with it? Well, you’ll just have to wait for the show to debut to find out. Fortunately, that won’t be too long from now as it starts on June 28th and will run at 10:00 pm — right after the second season of True Blood, which returns on June 12th.

Also according to Variety, the first episode will run for 45 minutes, with all others being 30 minutes in length. Co-Starring with Jane in the series are Jane Adams and Anne Heche. Also of note is that the pilot for Hung was directed by Alexander Payne, who directed, and won the Oscar for writing, Sideways. He was also nominated for directing Sideways and for writing Election.

Jane and Payne together again for the very first time. Could be interesting. I guess we’ll find out on June 28th.
