‘Community’ and ’30 Rock’ Renewed for Another Season

by Joe Gillis, May 11 2012 // 10:15 AM

Good news fans of quirky and eccentric sitcoms, both Community and 30 Rock will be back next season. NBC announced late yesterday that both shows will be coming back with 30 Rock getting a final seventy season of 13 episodes and Community going to a fourth season of 13 episodes as well.

It’s nice to see NBC allowing 30 Rock to wrap things up and it’s also nice that the network is giving Community a chance to stay on the air, even if the ratings don’t necessarily support it. Although, when the comedy returned from an extended hiatus the ratings had improved quite a bit making it one of NBC’s highest rated comedies.

With a renewal now secure, the next question, about Community at least, is if both creator/showrunner Dan Harmon and co-star Chevy Chase are going to return. In case you haven’t been following the story, they’ve reportedly had quite a feud going on with Chase apparently storming off the set and Harmon berating the actor at the show’s wrap party.

According to reports, both Chase and Harmon have reputations for being “difficult,” which in Hollywood-speak pretty much means they are dicks. However, its difficult to imagine Community without Harmon or Chase as each make a significant contribution to the show. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Take a Listen to Chevy Chase’s Drunk Voicemail to Dan Harmon

by Matt Raub, Apr 4 2012 // 9:00 AM

It’s been no secret for quite some time now how much of a thorn veteran comedian Chevy Chase has been in the side of just about everyone working on NBC’s Community. From rumors of a drunken Chase showing up late to shoots, to his overall difficulty to work with from the rest of the cast, there seems to have been tension for quite some time.

Now, it looks like things have escalated even further as creator Dan Harmon and Chevy had it out at the season wrap party last weekend, which resulted in an angry (and relatively inebriated) message left on Harmon’s voicemail. Here’s a bit of backstory from Deadline.

The chronology of the events, corroborated to me by multiple sources, involves Chase walking off the set of the show on the last day of shooting last month without filming one of his scenes, which reportedly was to close out the season finale.

Then at the wrap party, Harmon got up and gave a “Fuck you, Chevy” speech in front of Chase and his wife and daughter, and encouraged the crew to join him in saying “fuck you” to the actor. Chase left immediately and later left Harmon a profane-laden voice message, a portion of which found its way to the Web after Harmon played it in front of other people.

We’ve got the audio below which you can check out. Who’s to blame for all of this? Nobody can really tell, but we certainly know that it’s going to effect next season on Community as to whether or not we’ll even see the return of Chevy’s Pierce Hawthorne.

Our bet? Bill Murray steps in to replace him and nobody mentions the incident again.

‘Community’ Returns Tomorrow Night and We’ve Got Previews and More!

by Joe Gillis, Mar 14 2012 // 2:00 PM

Even though things looked a bit dire last year when NBC put one of our favorite shows, the awesome Community, on extended hiatus, all now is well in the TV Universe again as the show is set to return tomorrow night. To commemorate this great occasion, we’ve got a ton of videos to share with you today.

Among them are vids where Gillian, Yvette, and Joel (who wants to make out with all of you) discuss the big return of the show. Plus, take an early look at Greendale with some sneak peeks and get your fix of the Dean and Jeff as Jim Rash joins Joel on the NBC lot. That’s Academy Award Winner Jim rash to you.

Check out all the videos (and a coupe extra pics) after the break. Look for Community tomorrow night (Thursday) at 8/7C on NBC.

‘Community’ Returns to NBC In March

by Cortney Zamm, Feb 22 2012 // 2:15 PM

Human Beings everywhere rejoiced yesterday, as NBC released its spring schedule for its Thursday night programming, which included the triumphant return of the little show that could, Community.

Looks like we may get our six seasons and a movie after all. Hearlded by many as the funniest show on television right now, Community is on its third season and stars the likes of Joel McHale, Donald Glover, and Chevy Chase.

While its premise may be simple- the show revolves around a group of friends making their way through community college- the show has had episodes about parallel universes, paintball wars, zombie attacks, and D&D games.

After airing its Christmas episode in early December, Community was put on an indefinite hiatus. While the cast and crew actively assured fans via Twitter that filming was continuing, no one could really be sure whether remaining episodes would ever air. News of casting continued to flow in this week, and now with NBC’s announcement fans are most definitely relieved to have Community return to their televisions.

While Parks and Rec goes on a bit of a break until April 19th, Community takes that time slot and 30 Rock is bumped up to 9:30 PM. When Up All Night wraps up in April, Parks and Rec returns.

Check Out Previews for Tonight’s ’30 Rock’, ‘Parks and Rec’ and More!

by Joe Gillis, Jan 26 2012 // 1:30 PM

It’s Thursday again so that means more new episodes of some of our favorite shows on NBC tonight. Sure, we still miss Community and hope it’s really coming back.

Until then, at least we’ve still got brand new episodes of 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and more to help us pass the time. Not only that, we’ve got previews for all the new episodes for you right here too.

First up on 30 Rock, Liz invokes a pact she and Jenna made to each other years before. Then on Parks and Recreation, Knope 2012 goes on a bowling adventure.

Next up, it’s a second episode of 30 Rock called “The Ballad of Kenneth Parcell.” Finally, The Firm is back with a new episode. Havent had a chance to watch that one yet but I would bet the budget for a one hour drama show would have been more than enough to cover the cost of new episodes of Community.

Come on NBC, get with the program and give the viewers what they really want. We don’t mind that you made a mistake, we all do. Just correct it. . . soon.

Check out all the previews after the break.

‘Community’ Vies For Audience Sympathy with a ‘Save Greendale’ Campaign

by Matt Raub, Dec 8 2011 // 9:00 AM

NBC is under major scrutiny from fans as of late with their ballsy decision to pull fan-favorite Community from their Spring lineup. With that, fans have had a major outpour as to how pissed they are with NBC’s decision. Even TV Guide proved how important the show is to its dedicated community.

Now, the geniuses behind the show itself are working for your sympathy itself by putting together a campaign video to safe the show’s fictional setting, Greendale Community College.

Sure, there are a few character moments here, but also some sincerity as to where this show is going, and that it may never come back. Take a look at the heartwarming video after the jump and join the fight by signing the Save Community online petition.

Let’s win this one!

Tim & Eric’s ‘Saints Row’ Commercial, Star Wars Vs. ACDC, & The Skyrim Rap are all On the Radar

by The Flickcast, Nov 11 2011 // 12:30 PM

Welcome to another edition of On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

• We’ve seen some pretty lame posters for movies that already exist, but here are some pretty amazing posters for movies we’ll sadly never see.

• We love Star Wars as much as the next movie site, but when it’s mixed with AC/DC’s best tunes, it is completely mind-blowing.

• Speaking of mind-blowing music, here’s a special look at the recording sessions for the Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary theme.

• Everyone is getting ready for Skyrim to take up their lives for the next few weeks, so why not get this catchy rap stuck in your head getting ready for it?

Check Out Previews for Tonight’s ‘Community’, ‘Parks and Rec’, ‘Prime Suspect’ and More!

by Joe Gillis, Oct 13 2011 // 12:00 PM

It’s Thursday so that means NBC has pretty much all the shows we watch tonight. Of course, that means we’ve also got previews for all those shows for you to enjoy.

First up is one of our favorites, Community. In the episode the study group leaves the library and heads to Troy and Abed’s new pad. Of course, it won’t be that simple.

Next up on Parks and Recreation, it’s “Treat Yo Self “day for Tom and Donna while Ron and Leslie march their respective troops to the great outdoors. The Office also heads outside, but the Scranton crew is going to a very fancy garden party — at Schrute Farms. That won’t go well.

Next is Whitney where she and Alex want to bring back the romance. To to it, they really step it up. Finally, Prime Suspect rounds out the night as Jane searches for a murderer. But this week, she’s extra edgy as she tries a new technique to quit smoking.

Check out all the previews after the break. Everything starts tonight at 8/7C with Community.

Film Review: ‘What’s Your Number?’

by Nat Almirall, Sep 30 2011 // 10:30 AM

You already know the premise: A jilted/disillusioned–with-love-20/30-something revisits his/her past lovers to understand why he/she can’t find love, and finally realizes that her true love has been right there all along, in one form or another.

In this case, the Disillusionee is Ally Darling (Anna Faris), a recently-fired-then-slept-with-her-boss 20/30-something who reads a magazine article that says women who’ve slept with over 20 partners tend to not find true love. Ally is at number 19. Fearful of the consequences, she makes the decision that the next new guy she sleeps with will be the guy she marries. She also decides to seek out her former boyfriends/casual hookups, hoping to reignite some of the past’s embers and hence keep her number at 19.

There’s more than a passing similarity to High Fidelity in the premise and also in the choice to have several notable comedians—Andy Samberg, Parks and Rec’s (and Faris’s real-life husband) Chris Pratt, the BBCOffice’s Martin Freeman, Zachary Quinto (not so much a comedian, but hey)—and the perfect guy who’s been there all along is her next-door neighbor Colin (Captain America’s Chris Evans).

John Goodman, Musical Numbers & Awkward Laughter Are All in the New Teaser for ‘Community’ Season 3

by Sebastian Suchecki, Sep 1 2011 // 9:00 AM

Summer is finally coming to a close, and for most that means heading back to school or waking up early to take their little ones to school, but the good news is that all news shows are returning to the primetime lineup!

Some people are excited for things like the brand new look of The Office or new comedies like Up All Night and Whitney to start, but we can tell you none of that compares to what we are looking forward to in the upcoming third season of NBC’s Community.

Last season, we had things like an Apollo 13 spoof, another paintball tournament, and some amazing cameo guest stars, but from what we can tell in this new extended trailer for the season, that’s only the tip of the iceburg in what the students and staff at Greendale Community College have to offer.

Check out the brand new teaser after the jump, featuring a peek at an incredibly austentacious-looking musical number, and some of the most intense dialogue performed by John Goodman since the final season of Roseanne after the jump and catch the season premiere of Community on September 22nd.

Film Score Friday: ‘Spy Kids: All the Time in the World’ by Carl Thiel & Robert Rodriquez

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Aug 12 2011 // 11:00 AM

I am a fan of the Spy Kids franchise, there is no shame in admitting that. Even that crazy CGI orgy of mangled ideas that was Spy Kids 3(D) had a certain amount of enjoyment during its run time. One of the trademark elements of the Spy Kids films, and honestly any Robert Rodriquez film, is the music.

Rodriquez usually plays a very active role in the sound of his films, and the newest adventure of the extended Cortez family is no different. Written with Carl Thiel, the score for the fourth Spy Kids feature retains much of the same sound of the franchise predecessors. The music is a fun mix of sexy spy action, trademark Rodriquez guitars and a bubbly sheen that works perfect for this brand of kid movie.

Evoking many of the same tones as the previous Rodriquez kiddie films, this score generally works a collection of themes and action beats for general children consumption.

There is a lot to like about the music on this album, and sight unseen from the context of the film the music has wonderful pace. I find myself going to listen to one track and looking up a little later three or four tracks down the list. There is an infectious quality to the music in this movie, it has all of the bubble gum charm one comes to expect from one of these films.

I particularly appreciate a strong appreciation for specific themes that this soundtrack seems to have. There are themes for almost everyone in this release, and that is exactly how to appeal to younger kids. Broad strokes that are easily identifiable, yet strong on their own.

Joel McHale, Jessica Alba & Jeremy Piven Star in the First ‘Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World’ Trailer

by Sebastian Suchecki, Jun 1 2011 // 12:00 PM

Most films tend to peter off after the first trilogy. That rule, of course has been tried and broken a few times, most recently with the upcoming prequel X-Men: First Class. For Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids franchise, we fear it won’t meet those standards with the upcoming fourth film.

The film’s got a pretty impressive cast, and will, of course, be in 3D, but from what we can tell the script looks like it was shoehorned into the current Spy Kids universe, and even drudges up the much older stars of the original films. Here’s the massive synopsis.

The film revolves around twins Rebecca and Cecil who cannot get along with their stepmother, Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba), who married their father, Wilbur, a spy-hunting reporter. Unknown to the twins, Marissa is a retired spy for the OSS (Organization of Super Spies) which has since become the world’s top spy agency and former headquarters of the now-defunct Spy Kids division.

So when Earth is threatened by a villain who goes only by the name of “The Timekeeper” (Jeremy Piven), she is called back into action by the leader of the OSS. With the end of the world approaching, Rebecca and Cecil have no choice but to join the fight, help Marissa, and put their anger against her aside in order to save innocent people. They will also receive some help from former Spy Kids Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara) (who have since grown to teenagers) who will provide them with new gadgets.

And yes, the film will be in “4D”, which doesn’t actually mean anything. Take a look at the first trailer for the flick after the jump and catch Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World in theaters on August 19th.
