The Flickcast – Episode 97: Panderer’s Labyrinth

by Joe Gillis, May 4 2011 // 4:29 PM

This week, Chris and Matt tackle the hot-button subject of Nerd Girls and Matt explains his editorial from earlier this week in which he calls out top-level models and actresses for pandering to the ever-loving nerd community.

Click here to see the editorial rant that started it all.

Also, the duo discuss a uninspiring episode of Smallville from last week, get ready for the upcoming finale of next week’s Smallville, and gush about how excited they are for the Paintball finale of Community this week.

As for their picks, the boys went a little more obscure this week. Matt dug deep into his knowledge of Ozploitation films to pick the 1984 Philippe Mora classic The Return of Captain Invincible, a musical comedy starring Alan Arkin and Christopher Lee. Chris also went old school and picked the first season from the original Twilight Zone series, which is currently available on Instant Netflix.

Happy Holidays!

by Chris Ullrich, Dec 23 2009 // 3:30 PM

christmas-tree

As families shop for gifts, travel to be with loved ones and make final preparations for the holiday season, we here at The Flickcast are doing the same. In order to let our contributors have some fun during the holidays and spend time with their families, we are taking some time off during the next couple weeks.

Consequently, we will have a reduced posting schedule for articles. Of course, if any breaking news hits, we’ll bring it to you. Also, we will have more in our series of “Best Of 2009” articles covering topics such as movies and games, so be sure and watch out for those.

In addition, we won’t be having a podcast this week. However, we will return next week with our “Best Of” edition of The Flickcast podcast where we will discuss everything movie, tv, comics, games and geek we thought was the best of 2009 and of the decade. So, be sure to check that out next Wednesday right here and in iTunes.

For now, we thank you for being here and from all of us at The Flickcast, we wish you the best for the holiday season and for the new year.

Here’s to a happy, healthy and even better 2010!

The Flickcast – Episode 4: A New Hope

by Joe Gillis, Apr 22 2009 // 7:00 AM

meganfoxshialebeuftransformers2Previously on The Flickcast, the team discussed, among other things, the remake of campy horror classic Piranha and the casting of Elizabeth Shue in a lead role, the sad performance of the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles season finale and who should not play Captain America in the upcoming The First Avenger: Captain America.

On this week’s episode, the team delved into the death of author J.G. Ballard, discusses the latest footage released from Transformers 2: Rise of the Fallen, decides if breaking J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit into two movies is a good idea and digs deeper into porn. Yes, that’s right, porn. Well, at least porn parodies of popular movies and television shows.

The team also made some great pics again this week including Matt’s choice of two movies, Crank 2 and Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Hustle, Christina’s recommendation of a great television show called Oz and Chris’ picks State of Play with Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck and Star Trek: The Original Series on DVD to help get you ready for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming reboot of the franchise. Speaking of Star Trek, don’t forget to head on over and visit our friends at The Icon Factory to grab your very own shiny icons based on the upcoming film.
