While the world of film and TV awards get more and more jaded to the hardcore fans, it’s time to pay more attention to the forms of media that could, very soon, become the new medium to-be. I’m talking about the form of New Media, or “web series”, which is becoming more and more of what kids are talking about these days.
With that comes, of course, a cornocopia of popular awards to give accolades to these hard-working men and women. One of these is for the The International Academy of Web Television, a freshman organization that’s made to bring more attention to the growing medium.
Yesterday, the nomimations for the first year of awards was announced, and as expected, Sean Becker & Felicia Day’s popular web series The Guild, and the excellent drama series RCVR made out like bandits. From Variety.
“RCVR” racked up a dozen nominations. The show focuses on covert government agents that try to suppress the truth about extraterrestrial encounters and hunt humans selected by an alien species to act as channels for advanced technologies. “The Guild,” a long-running Web series that is arguably the field’s most popular, picked up nine nominations.
Voting is currently underway and the show hits on January 12th in Vegas the upcoming CES. Take a look at the full nominees after the jump.

From the folks that brought you G33K & G4M3R Girls and superHarmony, and the guy you love to call Chuck, comes a brand new web spoof that takes place in the distant future of 1964!
That’s right, things are going back to the beach in this brand new short from Team Unicorn, The Guild director Sean Becker, and Robot Chicken writer Zeb Wells. It’s called Alien Beach Crashers! and that’s exactly what you’re going to get. As if you needed a synopsis, here it is.
Team Unicorn is back and putting a new spin on the classic beach party song and dance movies of the 60’s with their comedic homage “Alien Beach Crashers!”, a story about pesky intergalactic invaders ruining the most awesome beach party ever.
Starring a pretty “far out” cast including Zachary Levi (Chuck), Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy), Abraham Benrubi (ER, Robot Chicken) and of course, Team Unicorn, made up of Clare Grant, Michele Boyd, Milynn Sarley, & Rileah Vanderbilt.
Take a look at the hilarious short after the jump, and be sure to subscribe to Team Unicorn’s channel, as they’re sure to post some great new shorts in the coming weeks!

After what had been a long an exhausting weekend of Comic Con, we finally got the chance to speak with Sandeep Parikh, the creator of The Legend of Neil as well as Zaboo from The Guild. The previous night, Sandeep had shown a packed panel the first two episodes of the third season of the series. (The first can be found here).
In our interview, Sandeep reacts to how the premiere went. We also talk to him about The Legend of Neil being distributed through alternative media as opposed to broadcast television. Sandeep also gives his thoughts on the Legend of Neil always being viewed by him as a trilogy.
The Legend of Neil is in its final season on Atom.com. A new episode will be revealed every two weeks with some big cameos coming from members of the Guild, including Sandeep himself, and musical guest like Garfunkel and Oates.
Check out the interview after the jump. Be sure to check back right here often for more news on The Legend of Neil and other web series.

There are plenty of web shows out there that catch the eyes of every comic, movie, or gaming nerd. One that stands out above the rest is Sandeep Parikh and Atom Film‘s satire on the classic Zelda games, titled Legend of Neil. The show just started up it’s third and final season, and we’re already at the edge of our seats.
The last thing that Neil remembered, he was drunk playing a game of Zelda–but you knew all that. In season 2, Neill died in the game world, transporting him back to real life, where his brother stole his girlfriend, he was being evicted, and stuck in a crappy job as a gas attendant. As season 3 starts up, we watch as Neil decides to continue his adventures or quit.
Fans of the popular webseries The Guild will no doubt love this show, as Sandeep plays Zaboo on the show. That also means we get some great cameos from Felicia Day, Jeff Lewis, and maybe a few others.
Check out the season 3 premiere after the jump, and keep it here for more Legend of Neil news as we make our way through the final season.

Due to last week’s craziness of San Diego Comic-Con, we regretfully weren’t able to bring you a Weblink Wednesday or Fan Film Friday. Since we’re all about fairness here at The Flickcast, we have decided to give you the best of both worlds this week with The Legend of Neil.
Created by the same team who brought us The Guild, The Legend of Neil is a web series about a regular underachiever, Neil Grimsley, who gets transformed into the world of Zelda and has to fight off all kinds of things from orcs to skeletons to gay dragons, all while pissed off and confused. The series is strictly a comedy for gamers, especially those who’ve spent many hours playing Legend of Zelda. The show has a few fun cameos along the way, including legendary fangirl and star of The Guild, Felicia Day.
Originally created as an independent series by Effin Funny, the show was later picked up by Atom Films, which had a syndication deal with Comedy Central. This means that Comedy Central owns syndication rights to Neil and may decide to change the medium to TV in the future (though there are no formal plans). Season two just kicked off on Monday, and you can check out the premier right after the jump. Be warned, the series is funny, but also NSFW.
