The Oscars Pull Out the Stops With an All-Star Trailer

by Matt Raub, Jan 6 2012 // 7:30 AM

For those who immediately tuned out the news about the 2012 Academy Awards after they heard that “retired” host Billy Crystal would be dusting off his tuxedo to get back up on stage, they had no idea what extents the Academy would go to in order to make you think that this isn’t your mom and dad’s Oscar show.

That’s why they pulled out the stops and collaborated with Funny or Die to put together this epic movie-style trailer featuring the likes of Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Josh Duhamel, Megan Fox, William Fichtner and Vinnie Jones.

That’s right. Some pretty big star power. And if that isn’t enough for you to get into the Oscar mood, the team has also put together a pretty extensive YouTube channel, with some of the best monologues, acceptance speeches, and overall best moments.

Take a look at the epic trailer after the jump and be sure to tune in to what should be an entertaining Oscars on February 26th, only on ABC.

Brian Austin Green’s Superhero Flick ‘Cross’ Coming to DVD This May

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Apr 4 2011 // 10:00 AM

Direct-To-DVD features have developed a certain negative stigma. Usually they have significantly smaller budgets, B to Z level actors and scripts that make Tyler Perry read like Shakespeare.

So when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announces the upcoming release of their new direct-to-DVD superhero movie Cross, we take a very skeptical mentality. It would take at least a solid concept, well rounded cast and a fun trailer to instill the slightest bit of enthusiasm for the project. So you can imagine our surprise when this film offers up all three!

Yep. You heard that right: Cross has a straightforward–albeit interesting–core concept that allows a surprisingly strong cast to let lose and have some fun making a pulpy sci-fi action B-movie. This movie isn’t going to be The Dark Knight, or even its big screen cousins Constantine and Push. No, Cross looks like it knows it’s place and revels in the absurdity inherent in being direct-to-DVD.

The movie stars Brian Austin Green (The Sara Connor Chronicles), Vinnie Jones (X-Men: The Last Stand), Jake Busey (Starship Troopers), Michael Clark Duncan (Daredevil) and Tom Sizemore (Strang Days), and hits DVD on May 31st.

Check out the first full-length trailer after the jump!

Trailer For The New Vampire Thriller ‘The Bleeding’ Hits The Web

by Joe Gillis, Jan 5 2011 // 12:00 PM

It may be a lull between Twilight films and True Blood seasons, but vampires are still very much hot. It takes a film in that lull to remind us that those bloodsuckers are still out lurking in the dark, and have a taste for B-list actors like Michael Madsen and Armand Assante. That’s where The Bleeding comes in.

The film stars a range of names you’ll see at any basement comic book convention like Madsen, Assante, Vinnie Jones, DMX, and everyone’s favorite inked hottie Kat Von D. Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

Shawn Black (Matthias) knows pain. His parents and brother were killed in front of him. Beaten, bloodied and left for dead by a gang of ruthless vampires led by the charismatic Cain (Jones) and his lethal lieutenant Vanya (Kat Von D). But like his would-be murderers, Shawn has come back from the brink of death to take his revenge. He soon comes upon Reverend Roy (Madsen), who reveals to Shawn his calling as a “slayer,” the only human capable of truly destroying vampires.

A little bit Buffy, a little bit Blade, and a lot of DMX. You can check out the first full trailer after the jump. Catch The Bleeding on DVD and Blu-Ray March 1st.

More Previews for NBC’s ‘The Cape’ Arrive

by Chris Ullrich, Jan 3 2011 // 12:00 PM

The more we see of NBC’s upcoming new superhero show The Cape the more we hope it ends up being as good as it looks. The show seems to have a great deal of potential so let’s hope it lives up to it.

Plus, any show with Keith David, Vinnie Jones and Summer Glau at least deserves a chance. That’s a pretty cool cast. Not only that, but the main good guy (aka “The Cape” played by David Lyons) doesn’t seem so bad either. So, to help kicks things off and keep people interested, we’ve got some more video from the show to share with you today.

This time it’s three scenes from the premiere episode itself. In them we see Vince’s training in how to use his cape, the first time The Cape meets Summer Glau’s Orwell and the moment where the superhero first reveals his name. Oh, and did I mention Summer Glau is in this show? Yeah, we’re happy about that too.

Check out all three scenes after the break. The Cape arrives this Sunday night on NBC.

Get A Sneak Peek At NBC’s New Superhero Drama ‘The Cape’

by Sebastian Suchecki, Dec 9 2010 // 9:00 AM

If you stuck with NBC’s Heroes until the bitter end and afterward said “The only thing this show was missing was costumes” then you are in luck. NBC has heard you and decided to bless fanboys and fangirls everywhere with another hour-long superhero drama with new characters called The Cape.

With the exception of the lead, ER’s David Lyons, the cast is pretty nerd-heavy. Summer Glau, Keith David, Vinnie Jones, and Martin Klebba (Star Trek) all fill out what could potentially be an interesting group of misfit superheroes (and super villain) as they take on thugs and gangsters. Did we mention there’s a weekly “Father detached from his family” storyline? Because there is.

While we still have some reservations about the show, NBC can’t wait to get started. They’ve even got a brand new sneak peek to get everyone pumped. Check it out after the jump, and join The Cape every Sunday starting on January 9th at 9/8pm Central.

Check Out A Preview For NBC’s New Super-Hero Drama ‘The Cape’

by Matt Raub, Sep 1 2010 // 7:00 AM

As if it was any surprise after the success of some big-time Hollywood superhero films in the past few years, NBC is jumping back on the comic genre bandwagon with their newest drama, The Cape. The show veers away from most of the problems that fans had with Heroes and sticks to a classier, more “silver age” style of heroics. Also, no pesky superpowers.

We wouldn’t want you to get lost in translation, so here’s how NBC describes the show.

“The Cape” is a one-hour drama series starring David Lyons (“ER”) as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. He is forced into hiding, leaving behind his wife, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin, “Life on Mars”) and son, Trip (Ryan Wynott, “Flash Forward”). Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken Palm City, Vince Faraday becomes “The Cape” – his son’s favorite comic book superhero – and takes the law into his own hands.

Combine this with roles filled out by Craig David, Summer Glau, and Vinnie Jones, this could either turn out to be an amazing show…or the worst thing we’ve seen since 2006′s Ultra starring Lena Headey.

Check out a full new preview of the show after the jump, and be sure to catch The Cape in all of it’s glory this fall on NBC.

What You Missed: ‘Community’ and ‘The Cape’ at Comic-Con

by Chris Ullrich, Aug 2 2010 // 4:00 PM

Even though Comic-Con was over a week ago that doesn’t stop us from having a bunch of content we just couldn’t fit in during our normal coverage of the event. So, expect to see Comic-Con related videos, photos, interviews, etc for quite some time still.

Continuing that trend, we’ve got some cool video for you from the Con right here. One is from Community, a show we really love and the other is from The Cape, a show that looks like something we will most likely love — at least from what we’ve seen of the show so far.

In these videos you can see the Community cast, including Joel McHale, Chevy Chase and Alison Brie, share their glowing impressions of the passionate and devoted fans they met at Comic-Con. Plus, listen close for a few hints on what’s coming next season. Plus, the cast of The Cape, including Vinnie Jones, Martin Klebba and Summer Glau,  gives a great preview of the series.

Check out all the videos after the jump. Look for both Community and The Cape this Fall on NBC.

‘Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball’ Gets a Trailer

by Sebastian Suchecki, Oct 28 2009 // 11:30 AM

smokDid you know that there was a sequel in the works for 2006′s Smokin’ Aces, with practically none of the original cast? Neither did we, until this trailer came across The Flickcast desk. It would be an interesting take, if it had any of the same people involved as the original film.

While the film doesn’t look like it will do much justice to Joe Carnahan’s original, the trailer was quite clever. It starts off by making sure we see some of our favorite faces from the original, such as Jeremy Piven, and then it throws a record scratch in to tell us that we won’t see them anymore.

Instead of a well-rounded cast consisting of Piven, Ray Liotta, Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Alicia Keys, and tons others, we now treated to the all-star cast of Vinnie Jones, Ernie Hudson, Tom Berenger, and the guy who had no lines in the first Smokin’ Aces.

Director P.J. Pesce seems perfect for the job, as his previous titles include other DVD sequels like Lost Boys: The Tribe, and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter. Joe Carnahan is listed as writing the story for the film, but so is his assistant, so there’s no real secret there.

Check out the first full trailer after the jump, and be sure to pick it up on DVD, Blu-Ray, digital download, and the bargain bin shortly thereafter on January 19th, 2010.
