With over 200 videos, the team at LORE have helped fill in the blanks in stories of many games that would either take hours upon hours of gameplay, interpretation of in game events or a keen attention to detail and almost neurotic level of completionism to get to. Their two shows Lore In a Minute and Fast Facts have covered classic titles, new releases, franchises and even various developers and hardware manufacturers. These explorations are increasingly useful for titles that have a loose in game narrative with hordes of supplemental material like Team Fortress or Left 4 Dead to fill in the tons of backstory that most players wouldn’t take the time to research.
In some cases though, LORE just goes off and does whatever the heck they want since some games literally have no story other than move to the right. That’s where Flappy Bird LORE comes into play. With nothing but the idea of tapping a screen and the pipes of Flappy Bird, the LORE team came up with a whole mythos behind the now defunct and infamous title. It’s likely the creator will never tell his true inspiration behind the game and the 80,000,000 people who downloaded it will never hear its true intentions. But, LORE did a heck of a job hypothesizing on it.

As the Flickcast’s resident bachelor, I am well acquainted with the world of dating apps. Of those, one that stands out amongst the crowd is Tinder. What starts out as a binary system of yes or no, users are able to hop on and swipe one way if they are interested and another if they aren’t. Get a match and skip the initial fear of rejection since you only find out if someone is interested in you if you both have swiped yes. But since it is a dating iPhone app, it is ripe for comedic mocking and possibilities. That brings us to Tinder: The Movie.
Tinder: The Movie is a mashup of the popular dating app combined with the storytelling from The Social Network’s trailer. What Bad Weather Films does alongside fellow YouTubers Matthias, Justin James Hughes and Olga Kay is create one of the most interesting and comical trailer parodies currently on YouTube. These guys hit all the beats with their humor but still get across why the Tinder app is as popular as it is because of its unique functionality. Sam, from Bad Weather Films, takes the starring role while his counterpart Peter takes the role of the computer geek that makes it all possible.

So I did it. I finally gave in. After months of avoiding Facebook invites from friends, family and total strangers, it was only after the recommendation of our own Matt Raub when he talked about how addictive it was that I decided to give Candy Crush Saga a chance. And now I see what the hype is about.
On the surface, one could attempt to say that Candy Crush Saga is a ripoff of the classic “Match 3” formula that made titles like Bejeweled so successful. But it takes bits and pieces from various other “Match 3” games into an incredibly simple but addictive formula. Early levels involve hitting a certain amount of points within a specific number of moves.
Quickly the gears get clogged up when levels change shape and it isn’t just the perfect square that they are used to. And then comes the jelly which players must not only hit a minimum score on but also make matches over specific squares to clear them. And once you think you’ve mastered that, then you have “ingredients” which are pieces that you must work down to the bottom of the screen by eliminating the blocks below them.

Until now, if you’ve ever used the Facebook app for the iPhone or iPad you know it pretty much sucks. Not to be negative or anything but it almost always loads very slowly, if at all, and crashes quite a lot.
Fortunately, it looks like Facebook has decided to do something about it and has announced it has completely rebuilt its iPhone and iPad app for a “faster and more enjoyable user experience.” According to the company: “Facebook 5.0 for iOS is twice as fast as the previous version when launching the app, scrolling through news feed and opening photos in feed.”
To be honest, it does seem to load faster and so far we haven’t experienced any crashes. It might have to do with the fact that the company finally decided to build the app using Apple’s native SDK instead of trying to make it just a skin over an HTML5 interface.
Put another way, Facebook seems to have made the app the “right” way this time instead of trying to half-ass it. We think that’s a good thing. Let us know if the app works better for you now too.

Chances are even if you are a hardcore gamer, you probably haven’t heard about 10000000. And its understandable. With hundreds of apps getting put on the App Store daily, it’s easy to miss a game that isn’t an Angry Birds clone. But of any game recently released that should have mass appeal to gamers, 10000000 is it.
10000000 is the epitome of taking current trends, combining them and doing it right. First, the basic gameplay revolves around gem matching. Players drag rows and columns right and left or up and down to match either swords, magic staves, keys, chests, shields, wood and stone to accomplish various tasks. Swords and staves attack. Keys unlock doors and chests. Shields provide armor. Wood and stone provide resources for later. Chests grant gold and items.

PAX East is a week and a half away and if you’re going to the convention now’s really the time to start planning what panels you’ll be attending, which booths you absolutely have to check out, and which musical guests you’ll be rocking out to at the nightly concerts. Luckily, there’s a nifty app called Guidebook, and the guys at Penny Arcade have released an entire digital guide for PAX East, so you’ll be able to plan your entire weekend right on your mobile devices.
Download the app via the appropriate app store and once you’re in, search for the PAX East 2012 guide. It has everything you’ll need to successfully survive PAX East: the entire schedule of panels, concerts, and tournaments, map of the area including restaurants and bars to check out, a full list of all the musical guests, exhibitors, and shuttle schedules to the various hotels and venues. Within the app, you’ll be able to design your own schedule for the convention, add to your “to-do” list, and track the #PAX hashtag on Twitter.
There’s even a section detailing the Boston Indie showcase, a fantastic bunch of games that everyone, attending the convention or not, should check out, since they’re all mobile based.

We told you yesterday about the new Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet, and it looks amazing. Lot’s of features that you see on lots of different tablets, and some interesting bells and whistles, but the new Nook Tablet does have a few tricks up it’s sleeve. Beginning next week the Nook will be offering the world’s largest collection of digital Marvel Graphic Novels.
This is potentially huge news because even in a world of digital day and date releases of single issues, many readers still prefer to wait for the collected editions. The explosion of book stores like Barnes & Noble really helped fuel a “wait for the trades” mentality amongst comic fans who have grown tired of the complexity of keeping up with single issues. So there is a nice symmetry to having a Barnes & Noble tablet lead the way in digital graphic novels.
Reading comics digitally is just now coming into play in a major way. With DC releasing it’s major titles digitally day and date and Marvel making advances to do the same, digital comic consumption could save the industry that gave the world so many iconic characters. It is also smart of Barnes & Noble to focus on the graphic novel side of the marketplace, digital distribution could hinder trade sales, so utilizing the oft proven “if you can’t beat ’em join ’em” strategy could prove very lucrative.
Full details, including a sampling of what graphic novels will be available for the Nook Tablet, after the jump
