Arnold is back again and this time it’s personal. Well, really, isn’t it pretty much always? Even when he’s a cyborg assassin from the future, it still ends up being personal. “Come with me if you want to live” and all that.
Anyway, his next action extravaganza is called Sabotage and there’s a new Redband trailer for it out now. Gotta say, this looks pretty darn good.
In the movie Arnold “leads an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done – until, one-by-one, the team members mysteriously start to be eliminated. As the body count rises, everyone is a suspect.”
We hate when that happens. Don’t you?
Check out the trailer after the break. Sabotage, which in addition to Arnold stars Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard, Joe Manganiello and Josh Holloway, hits theaters on March 28.
If there’s one action icon from the 80’s you can always count on, it’s Sylvester Stallone. But this particular post isn’t about him.
Instead, it’s about that other 80’s action icon you can pretty much always count on: Arnold Schwarzenegger. Once his stint in the California Govenor’s mansion was over, Arnold went back to movies full time. Those releases haven’t been met with the same, shall we say, enthusiasm as his earlier efforts.
This new one, callled Sabotage, looks to change all that. Here’s the synopsis:
In “Sabotage”, Arnold Schwarzenegger leads an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done – until, one-by-one, the team members mysteriously start to be eliminated. As the body count rises, everyone is a suspect.
Well, that won’t end well — especially for the drug dealers. Check out a trailer for Sabotage, which in addition to Arnold features Sam Worthington, Olivia Williams, Terrence Howard, Joe Manganiello, and Mireille Enos, after the break.
This week on The Flickcast, Chris and Joe are back once again and ready to talk all things geek. That, of course, means movies, TV, comics and even a little tech thrown in, just for fun.
This week’s episode includes discussions about the programming on Netflix, the Breaking Bad spin-off with Bob Odenkirk, AMC’s budget decisions, the deliberate pacing of The Walking Dead and the upcoming Doctor Who TV special.
Also discussed is the recent controversy surrounding a contest to draw the character Harly Quinn in a rather compromising situation, other DC editorial decisions and policies, Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton rumored to be joining Arnold Schwarzenegger in the next Terminator movie, the observational powers of stunt men, new iPhones and a whole lot more. It’s a big show and one you won’t want to miss.
This weeks picks include Joe’s pick of the movie The Chronicles of Riddick so you can see it before you watch the new one that’s just come out. Chris’ pick this week is the DIY Network TV series Make It Right, featuring Canada’s second most trusted person: contractor Mike Holmes.
As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at Facebook, Google+ or via email.
Here’s the latest trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s upcoming action flick The Last Stand. Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzmán, Peter Stormare, Johnny Knoxville, Rodrigo Santoro, Jaimie Alexander and Genesis Rodriguez are also in the movie. The movie, directed by South Korea’s Kim Jee-woon, opens January 18th.
Here’s the trailer. It’s about what you expect, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Last week I said this was not going to be a big weekend, even with three new films nothing really had good Box Office potential. Even though the final tallies proved that this was indeed a lack luster weekend no film actually had a horrible haul.
The ‘big’ winner of the weekend was The Expendables 2, the sequel to the action extravaganza that dared to load as many action superstars as possible into about an hour and a half ‘splosion. The sequel was probably originally expected to do bigger business than it’s predecessor with its bigger cast and PG-13 rating.
Somewhere along the way expectations tempered and the film’s $28.7 Million take is probably close enough to expectations. Even though it is near expectations, it was still on the lower end, so at this point word of mouth has to be the saving grace for this testosterone fueled franchise.
Second place went to The Bourne Legacy which brought in just over $17 Million. Its drop was on par with the previous films in the franchise, but because the first weekend was weaker the film still lags. That said for a pretty big overhaul, the film has performed pretty well, and there is clearly life left in this series.
Scrapping into third place is the stop motion animated film ParaNorman. The supernatural animated picture hit the stop motion animated glass ceiling with a decent $14 Million which is not great, but hardly bad either. It is nice that the film is playing to some business, but it would have been nice to see the film breakout a little more.
Next weekend sees yet another ‘meh’ weekend at the Box Office, in fact we are starting to see the beginning of the end of summer doldrums where tent pole type films with little box office potential or momentum get a release and bang around for the left overs of the summer season pie.
Long abscent from the big screen for a little detour into politics, Arnold is back and in several movies coming to a theater near you soon. This week he’ll be appearing in The Expendables 2, but he’s also in another movie called The Last Stand, which had a new trailer released for it today.
The Last Stand marks South Korean director Kim Jee-woon’s first English-language movie and will undoubtedly feture quite a bit of action, drama and poorly pronounced English. Previously, the movie has been described by the studio as “a Fast And Furious at the border with high speed car chases, drug cartels and the like.”
We’re particularly interested in this “like” we’ve heard so much about. Could be cool.
Look for The Last Stand to hit theaters on January 18, 2013. Check out the trailer after the break.
The concept behind The Expendables is admirable, mix together as many bad ass action super stars from the last three decades of film into one franchise. The cast list of the first film read like a who’s who of the greatest action talent, even going so far as to feature Arnold and Willis in cameos.
The second film, out this Friday, uped the ante with the original cast returning along with full roles for The Arnold, Bruce Willis and even Van Damme. As great as that group is how do you top it? Total Film had a chance to talk to the film’s producer Avi Lerner to ask that very question:
We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him. We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters]… And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]”
Wow, talk about reaching for the stars. Who knows if they will actually nail any of those guys, but it is good to see the producers won’t consider any action icon to big to approach. Which begs the question, when will they give Mel Gibson a call?
You can check out The Expendables 2 this week and stay tuned to The Flickcast for any testosterone riddled casting updates in the future.
Action Stars? Check. Explosions? Check. More Action Stars? Check. Foreground Flames for no reason? Check. Still more Action Stars? Check, check, check.
Yep, the new Expendables 2 poster hits on just about every note you could possibly expect in an action movie poster. It exudes masculine, muscle-bound machismo more so than any poster for an actual feature film I can recall. Which is exactly the right tone they should be setting in their marketing.
Looking at this poster reminds me of a thought that crossed my mind while watching The Avengers. Projects like these ought not to exist, when we were growing up the concept of an all out action franchise staring just about every icon of the genre was a pipe dream. Now it is a reality.
People still want to worry about the rating, but with the way the MPAA has softened their stance on violence in the last decade I am sure the ‘spolsions and shootin’ wont be too neutered. It is also key to remember Stallone shot the first Expendables to be PG-13 as well, most of the R-rated content was the result of re-shoots.
Take a look at the full poster after the jump, and be prepared to be blown away by pure awesomeness August 17th.
April Fools??? Unfortunately for all you Twins fans, it looks like this is no joke. The sequel to the 1988 comedy film Twins, aptly named Triplets, is set to add a third brother to the mix and it looks like that brother will be played by Eddie Murphy.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito have already attached themselves to the sequel to the original film which featured the duo as “experimentally conceived” twin brothers.
At first, having a black triplet seems completely crazy, but considering that in the original they tried to to have two brother who could not be more different from each other. What could be more different from those two than a black guy?
Eddie Murphy is definitely a safe choice for the role as he is no longer the edgy comedian he once was, but is he still a big enough draw for him to be a value. Let’s be honest he hasn’t had a successful film in years. His last film which is still in theaters, A Thousand Words, is a box office failure.
Not to be confused with the upcoming remake, this week’s pick is Paul Verhoeven’s classic sci-fi action film Total Recall (1990). It is based on Phillip K. Dick’s novel We Can Remember it for You Wholesale and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a man trying to piece together who he really is on Mars in the year 2084. Noted for his unique blend of violence, extreme sexual situations, and gore, Verhoeven pulls no stops with Total Recall.
In the film Schwarzenegger stars as Doug Quaid, an everyday guy who has nightmare visions concerning the planet Mars that for some time has been colonized by humans. Disenfranchised with his work and everyday grind, Doug decides to visit a company called Rekall that sells memory implantations that makes you feel as if you have really taken a vacation without actually going anywhere.
While at Rekall, Doug is persuaded by the manager to purchase what is referred to as an “ego trip” where you assume the role of a particular individual. Quaid is intrigued and selects the persona of a secret agent who is on a mission to save Mars.
